Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Cottage windows are traditional-style windows often found in period properties, designed to preserve the historic charm whilst offering modern energy efficiency and functionality. These windows include styles such as flush casement, sliding sash and pane patterns, often featuring multiple panes divided by astragal bars to reflect a classic aesthetic.

Cottage window installation costs between £500 and £1,800 per window, fully fitted. The final price depends on the material (uPVC, aluminium or timber), window size, style and glazing, as well as period-accurate features such as Georgian bars, astragal bars or leaded designs. Timber, sliding sash and bay and bow styles sit towards the upper end, while standard uPVC casements are the most economical. Property access and installation complexity also affect the overall cost.

Cottage windows are made from timber, uPVC or aluminium, with each material offering its own set of benefits. Timber provides an authentic, traditional look, whilst uPVC and aluminium offer durability, low maintenance and energy efficiency, often with the added benefit of double glazing.

Cottage window installation takes 1-2 hours per window, with a full installation for a standard 3-bedroom house usually completed in 2-3 days. The time required can vary based on window type, removal of existing frames and property access.

Bowalker Windows Limited offers a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on all cottage window installations, ensuring long-lasting reliability and peace of mind. This guarantee covers workmanship and installation quality, providing protection for your investment.

No, you do not need to be at home during the cottage window installation as long as we have access to your property and your preferences are confirmed beforehand. Our in-house team will handle everything professionally and ensure the job is completed to your satisfaction.

Replacing cottage windows usually costs between £500 and £1,900 per window or more. This includes removing and disposing of the old windows and fitting new units with modern double glazing. Prices vary with material, size, style and decorative features such as glazing bars or leaded glass, and any structural or making-good work required will add to the figure. For an accurate price, Bowalker provide a free survey and a fixed, no-obligation quote.

To maintain cottage windows, clean the frames and glazing a few times a year with warm soapy water and keep the weather seals and drainage holes clear to prevent draughts and damp. Lubricate the hinges, locks and any sliding sash balances periodically so they continue to operate smoothly. Timber frames need occasional repainting or re-sealing every few years to guard against moisture and rot, while uPVC and aluminium require only routine cleaning. If condensation appears between the panes of a double-glazed unit, the seal has failed and the unit should be replaced.
