Types Of Doors We Install

A sliding door uses large glass panels that glide horizontally along a track, featuring ultra-slim aluminium frames to provide expansive, uninterrupted views, making them suitable for patios, garden entrances, balconies, and modern extensions. Bowalker installs sliding doors in aluminium, timber, and uPVC frames, with double- or triple-glazing, smooth-track systems, and multi-point locking mechanisms. Key benefits include unobstructed outdoor views, increased natural light, efficient use of space, and durable glazing that provides strong insulation and secure operation.
Made of high-grade, thermally broken aluminium, an aluminium entrance door is a premium front door solution constructed for maximum structural integrity and sleek aesthetics for the main entrance. Bowalker installs aluminium entrance doors in a wide range of RAL powder-coated colours, with high-security multi-point locking systems and bespoke handle options to create a grand, contemporary entrance. These doors provide strong resistance to warping and weathering, require minimal maintenance and can last over 40 years whilst maintaining a secure, stylish appearance.
Extensive glass doors, connecting indoor space.

Bifold Doors

Bifold doors feature multiple panels that fold and stack in a concertina style to one or both sides, sliding smoothly along a track to create up to a 90% clear opening. This system allows large wall openings that connect interior spaces with patios, terraces or gardens. Bowalker installs bifold doors in aluminium, timber and uPVC frames with toughened double glazing, precision rollers and secure locking mechanisms. Key advantages include improved ventilation, greater natural light, flexible indoor-outdoor access and durable construction suitable for home extensions and open-plan living areas.
A French door comprises two hinged glass panels that open from the centre to create a wide, elegant entryway. These doors combine traditional design with large glazed panels that allow light to pass between spaces whilst maintaining separation. Our in-house installers fit French doors in timber, aluminium and uPVC frames with double glazing, secure locks and weather-resistant seals. Their design delivers classic aesthetics, strong airflow through dual-opening panels, improved natural lighting and durable performance for garden entrances and interior transitions.
A cornerless door is a specialised architectural solution where two sets of bifold or sliding doors meet at a 90-degree angle without a fixed structural post. This configuration allows the entire corner of a room to open completely, creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces. Bowalker installs these systems using reinforced structural supports and precision-engineered tracks, allowing the entire corner of a room to open fully. Their precision-engineered tracks and reinforced structural supports make them suitable for modern properties that prioritise open-plan living and visual continuity with outdoor spaces.
Featuring glass panels within a timber, aluminium or steel frame, the glazed internal door allows light to pass between interior rooms whilst maintaining separation. These doors are widely used in homes and offices where natural light distribution improves interior brightness without removing physical room boundaries. We install glazed internal doors using toughened safety glass and durable hinges, ensuring long-term reliability.
Commercial doors are designed for office buildings, retail premises and commercial facilities that require durability and security for frequent use. These doors provide dependable structural strength, controlled access and long-term reliability for business entrances, service areas and interior commercial spaces. Our door installers fit commercial doors with reinforced frames, heavy-duty hinges and secure locking systems to support high-traffic environments.
Residential doors are designed for private homes and domestic properties where security, insulation and design aesthetics support everyday living. Our team of door installers fits residential entrance doors, patio doors and interior doors using durable materials such as timber, composite structures, aluminium and uPVC. Key features include insulated cores, weather seals, secure locking mechanisms and customised finishes that enhance both security and the property's appearance.

Solar Reflective Door

Fitted with specialised glass coatings, solar reflective doors reflect a high percentage of infrared radiation whilst maintaining clear visibility. Bowalker installs these glazing systems in large glass installations, such as bifold and sliding doors, to prevent sun-exposed rooms from overheating during warm months. Key benefits include reduced solar heat gain, lower cooling costs and protection against UV fading for interior furniture whilst maintaining strong natural light levels.
Multi-pane rooflights with flat minimalist design for modern homes.

Acoustic Door

Acoustic doors are engineered with sound-dampening interlayers and specialised compression seals that significantly reduce the transmission of external noise. Their design uses layered glazing, dense cores and airtight framing to disrupt sound waves and lower decibel levels between spaces. Bowalker installs these doors using heavy-duty frames and a range of glass thicknesses that achieve high sound-reduction ratings. They are ideal for homes near busy roads, airports or railway lines and for interior spaces such as home offices or media rooms.
Interior hallway features a white door and guitar display.

Internal Blinds Door

An internal blinds door features Venetian or pleated blinds sealed permanently within the argon-filled cavity of a double-glazed unit. This allows users to control light and privacy without external curtains or blinds. Because the blinds are enclosed between the glass panes, they remain protected from dust, damage and wear. Our installers fit these systems with magnetic sliders or motorised controls for maintenance-free operation.

Obscure Door

Obscure doors use textured, frosted, or patterned glass to distort visibility while allowing natural light to permeate the room. We offer various privacy levels (ranging from 1 to 5) for materials such as uPVC and aluminium, ensuring that high-security glazing is paired with aesthetic discretion. They are best used for front doors and bathrooms, where preventing a direct line of sight from the street is essential without sacrificing interior brightness.
Sleek modern apartment complex with glass-enclosed balconies.

Patterned Door

Patterned doors incorporate decorative glass textures or designs that diffuse light whilst adding visual interest to the door surface. The patterned glazing softens light transmission whilst providing varying levels of privacy. These doors are often used in interior entrances, bathrooms or hallways where decorative design and functional light diffusion are equally important.
Red door with shadow patterns from overhanging branches.

Astragal Bars Door

Astragal bars doors feature raised, decorative strips fitted to the surface of the glass to mimic the look of traditional multi-pane glazing. Our team of certified door installers installs these on French and entrance doors to provide an authentic Georgian or Victorian appearance without the thermal weakness of separate glass panes. They provide a robust, traditional feel and are available in uPVC, timber, and aluminium to match the architectural style of period cottages or country homes.
Glazed Doors

Triple-Glazed Door

Triple-glazed doors utilise three panes of glass separated by two gas-filled cavities to provide the highest possible level of thermal and acoustic insulation. We install these with A++ energy ratings and ultra-tight seals to virtually eliminate heat loss and external noise. Benefits of triple-glazed doors include significantly lower energy bills, a warmer home in winter and enhanced security due to the additional layer of toughened glass, making them ideal for eco-conscious renovations.
Open office with glass walls and rolling desk.

Toughened Door

Toughened doors are fitted with heat-treated safety glass that is up to five times stronger than standard glass. Bowalker installs toughened glass as standard in all our large-aperture doors, including bifolds, sliding and French doors. This ensures compliance with safety regulations. Features include extreme impact resistance and a failure mode that shatters into small, blunt pieces rather than sharp shards, ensuring maximum safety for families and pets.

Fire-Rated Door

Fire-rated doors are specialised units tested to withstand heat and smoke for 30 (FD30) or 60 (FD60) minutes. We install these with intumescent seals that expand in heat to block smoke and fire-resistant cores to prevent structural failure. They are essential for internal doors leading to garages, apartment entrances and commercial fire escapes, providing vital protection and legal compliance.
Gray security door with a window.

Satin Door

Featuring a smooth, matte velvet glass finish, satin doors offer maximum Level 5 privacy with a soft, diffused light transmission. Our team of door installers fits satin glass into double-glazed units for a sleek, contemporary look that is easy to clean and resistant to streaks. These doors are ideal for modern bathrooms, office partitions or front entrances where a minimalist aesthetic and high privacy are required.
PAS 24 certified doors and windows

Composite Door

Composite doors are made from a high-density timber and insulating foam core wrapped in a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) skin for ultimate durability. We install these with multi-point locking systems and energy-efficient glazing to provide a front door that will not warp, rot or flake. Key benefits include a realistic woodgrain finish, exceptional thermal performance and industry-leading security, making them the most popular choice for modern British homes.
Modern house with a large conservatory.

uPVC Door

uPVC doors are a highly durable, low-maintenance and cost-effective solution for both front and rear entrances. Bowalker installs these with galvanised steel reinforcement, multi-point locks and weather-resistant gaskets to ensure a long lifespan and excellent energy ratings. Features of a uPVC door include resistance to rot and corrosion, a wide variety of colours and woodgrain foils and a recyclable construction that provides great value for long-term performance.
Heritage Aluminium Doors 1

Aluminium Door

Aluminium doors provide a sleek, modern look with incredibly slim frames made from high-strength, lightweight metal. Bowalker installs these with thermal breaks to prevent heat loss, multi-point locking for security and a wide range of powder-coated RAL finishes. Key features include exceptional durability, rust and corrosion resistance and a modern aesthetic that supports large glass spans for maximum natural light.
timber doors

Timber Door

Timber doors use high-quality hardwoods or premium softwoods, such as Accoya, to deliver a warm, traditional appearance with modern performance. Our team of door installers fits these with airtight seals and energy-efficient double glazing to ensure they remain draught-free and secure for decades. Benefits of timber doors include natural beauty, high thermal mass for better insulation and a heavy, solid feel that adds significant value and character to any property.
steel doors

Steel Door

Steel doors offer the highest level of structural strength and security, often featuring an industrial Crittall-style look with slim profiles. Key features include extreme fire resistance, ultimate impact strength and a minimalist design that maximises glass area whilst providing a virtually impenetrable barrier. We install these for both high-security commercial applications and as distinctive interior partitions for industrial-chic home designs.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Doors?

Installing doors improves security, increases energy efficiency, enhances comfort and improves the overall appearance of your property. Upgrading to modern door systems with insulated cores, double- or triple-glazing, reinforced frames and airtight seals reduces heat loss, strengthens entrance protection and improves insulation, whilst also protecting your home from draughts, outside noise and weather exposure.

Seven key benefits of replacing your doors are:

Improved energy efficiency

New, well-fitted doors, particularly those with an ENERGY STAR label, provide superior insulation, preventing drafts and stabilising indoor temperatures.

Enhanced security

Reinforced door frames, multi-point locking systems, and toughened safety glass provide stronger protection against forced entry.

Better insulation and comfort

Modern doors include insulated materials and tight weather seals that reduce drafts and maintain a stable indoor environment.

Noise reduction

Double or triple glazed door panels help minimise external noise from traffic, busy streets, or neighbouring properties.

Aesthetic appeal

Contemporary door styles, such as aluminium entrance doors, bifold doors, or timber doors, enhance the property's visual appearance and design.

Low maintenance

Durable materials such as uPVC, aluminium, composite structures, and treated timber resist weather damage and require minimal upkeep over time.

Improved functionality

Modern door systems offer smoother operation, wider access, and better everyday usability.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Door installation costs depend on the door type, material, glazing specification, size, colour, brand and installation complexity. All prices below include VAT, installation and disposal of the old door. Single uPVC door replacements start from £1,600.

Standard uPVC or composite doors are usually more affordable than larger door systems. Bifold and sliding doors vary in price depending on their size, frame colour, brand, glass type and structural requirements. At the higher end, our Spitfire entrance doors with fingerprint entry scanners can cost up to £15,000.

Door installation time depends on the door type, property structure, glazing specification, hardware setup and complexity of the project. Replacing a single door usually takes a minimum of half a day with two experienced fitters.

Larger installations, such as bifold or sliding door systems, may take one to two days or longer depending on size and site conditions. For complex sliding and bifold doors over three metres wide, installation may take several days and may require up to eight installers.

We offer a wide range of colour options for doors, including classic whites, neutral greys, bold shades, timber-effect finishes, and metallic tones. These options are available across uPVC, timber, and aluminium doors, allowing you to match or complement your property’s exterior and interior aesthetics.

We provide a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on door installations, with cover aligned to the guarantee conditions explained on our dedicated Guarantees page. Our standard Silver Guarantee includes 10-year cover on the door frame for cracking, warping, discolouration, manufacturing faults and seal failure. Where glazed sealed units are included, they are covered for 5 years against condensation between the glass.

The guarantee includes 1-year cover on door hardware and fitting, including items such as locks, handles, hinges, letterboxes, doorbells, draughts, insecure fixing, misalignment and glass movement. Full cover details, exclusions and optional Gold or Platinum upgrades are set out on the Guarantees page, so homeowners know exactly what is included before and after installation.

Our door installations are completed by our own team and are carried out in line with FENSA regulations where required.

No, you do not need to be home for the installation as long as we have access to the property and your preferences are communicated in advance. Our fully in-house team of door installers will carry out the work professionally, ensuring security, careful handling and adherence to your specifications.

Lead times vary depending on door type, specification and current demand. Standard uPVC and composite doors are fitted within two to four weeks of your order being confirmed. Bespoke aluminium, bifold and sliding door systems may require four to eight weeks to manufacture and deliver. Our team will confirm an estimated installation date at the time of your order.

Most door replacements in standard residential properties fall under permitted development rights and do not require planning permission. However, if your property is a listed building or situated within a conservation area, you may need listed building consent or conservation area consent before work can begin. Our team will advise you on any consents required during your initial consultation.
