Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Planning Permission to Replace Windows or Doors in Heathfield?
No, in Heathfield, replacing windows and doors with like-for-like designs generally does not require planning permission because Permitted Development rights apply under Wealden District Council. Permission is needed if the property is a Listed Building, is in a Conservation Area with an Article 4 Direction, involves major structural changes such as enlarging openings, or is a flat or commercial premises. All replacement windows and doors must still comply with UK Building Regulations covering insulation, ventilation, safety glass, and fire escape routes, which you can meet either by using a FENSA-registered installer like Bowalker Windows Limited or by applying directly to building control. Before starting any project with a windows and door specialist Heathfield, always confirm your property’s status and consult Wealden District Council or a qualified specialist if you are unsure about the need for planning permission.
This is particularly important if your home is located within a Conservation Area or is subject to an Article 4 Direction, as these designations impose additional restrictions beyond standard planning rules.
Are There Conservation Area or Article 4 Restrictions for Replacement Windows and Doors in Heathfield?
Yes, replacement windows and doors in Heathfield are subject to Conservation Area and Article 4 restrictions where these designations apply, especially for properties in areas protected to preserve local character. These restrictions mean that visible changes to the exterior, such as installing new upvc windows, double glazed units, or modern front doors, often require planning permission and may be limited by stricter requirements on materials, finishes, or window and door styles to match the original appearance. Because the specific rules can vary by street or property, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends that you check with Wealden District Council before starting any replacement project to confirm what permissions or specifications are needed for your windows and door specialist Heathfield installation.
Once you have clarified any planning restrictions, you can then focus on choosing window and door styles that best complement your home’s character and needs.
Which Window Styles Are Best Suited to Homes in Heathfield?
Yes, the best window styles for Heathfield homes depend on property age, architectural style, and local weather conditions. Traditional properties often fit timber flush-casement or sliding-sash windows, which maintain period character and suit older frames, while modern homes typically benefit from uPVC or aluminium casement windows for a clean look and low maintenance. Across all property types, double glazed windows are recommended for energy efficiency and noise reduction, supporting comfort and thermal performance in the local climate. For tailored advice on selecting the right windows and doors for your Heathfield home, contact Bowalker Windows Limited or visit our website for more information.
Which Door Types Are Best Suited to Homes in Heathfield?
The best door types for Heathfield homes depend on property style, security needs, and weather resistance. Composite entrance doors offer high security and efficient insulation. uPVC and aluminium doors provide a modern appearance, durability, and low maintenance, making them suitable for contemporary homes and offering reliable weather resistance. Timber doors are chosen for period or character properties to maintain an authentic look and support insulation. Matching the door type to your home’s character and requirements ensures your installation by a windows and door specialist Heathfield delivers both performance and visual appeal.
Just as selecting the right door enhances your home’s functionality and style, choosing the appropriate rooflight type can transform your living space with natural light and ventilation.
Which Rooflight Types Are Suitable for Homes and Extensions in Heathfield?
A range of rooflight types are suitable for homes and extensions, with the best choice depending on the roof structure and how you plan to use the space. Fixed rooflights maximise natural light in areas where ventilation is not required. Opening rooflights provide both daylight and the option for airflow, making them practical for kitchens or bathrooms. For larger extensions, multi-paned or lantern rooflights distribute light across a wider area. Bowalker Windows Limited recommends consulting a windows and door specialist Heathfield to ensure the right fit and compliance with local building requirements.
When Should Roofline Products Be Replaced on a Heathfield Home?
Yes, roofline products on a Heathfield home should be replaced when you notice visible rot, warping, water ingress, or ongoing maintenance issues that do not resolve with standard upkeep. Signs such as cracked or sagging fascias, leaking gutters, or persistent damp patches around the roofline indicate that the protective barrier is failing and may allow further weather damage. Regular inspections by a windows and door specialist Heathfield help identify these problems early, so acting promptly to replace compromised roofline products prevents more extensive property damage and maintains the integrity of your home.
What Guarantee Applies to Bowalker Installations in Heathfield?
Every windows and door specialist Heathfield installation by Bowalker Windows Limited is covered by a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee that applies to both products and workmanship, supported by our FENSA registration (No. 33081) for regulatory compliance. This guarantee includes a 1-year warranty on all hardware and electrical components, a 5-year warranty on supply-only sealed units, and is transferable to a new property owner for a £25 fee. With this level of coverage, homeowners gain clear assurance that their investment in new windows and doors is protected for the long term.
To make the most of this comprehensive guarantee, it is important for homeowners to follow proper care routines for their new windows and doors.
How Should You Maintain Replacement Windows in Heathfield?
Regular maintenance keeps replacement windows from Bowalker Windows Limited performing well in Heathfield. We recommend cleaning the frames and glass with mild soap and water at least twice a year, taking care to avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish or hardware. Clearing drainage channels of debris, lubricating moving parts such as hinges and locks annually, and inspecting seals for signs of wear or drafts all help prevent issues from developing. Addressing any mechanical or seal problems early reduces the risk of more extensive work later, so scheduling routine checks with your windows and door specialist Heathfield supports long-term window performance.
Just as with windows, doors benefit from a proactive approach to care and maintenance to ensure their longevity and reliable function.
How Should You Maintain New Doors in Heathfield?
Yes, we recommend that new doors from Bowalker Windows Limited receive regular, material-specific maintenance to keep them performing well in Heathfield. Cleaning the door surface with suitable products for uPVC, composite, or timber finishes, lubricating hinges and locks, tightening any loose hardware, and inspecting weatherstripping for signs of wear are all part of our standard care advice. If you notice persistent draughts, timber decay, or faulty locks, contacting a windows and door specialist Heathfield is the right step. Consistent attention to these details helps extend the lifespan and appearance of your new doors.
Just as doors benefit from routine upkeep, rooflights also require ongoing care to maintain their function and appearance.
How Should You Maintain Rooflights in Heathfield?
Rooflights installed by Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Heathfield require regular maintenance to keep light levels high and protect against weather. We recommend cleaning the glass and frames with suitable non-abrasive products, checking all seals for signs of leaks or gaps, and clearing any debris from drainage channels to prevent water build-up. Inspecting the opening mechanisms for smooth, reliable movement helps avoid sticking or jamming. Scheduling periodic checks for these areas keeps your rooflights performing as intended and protects your installation.
Can an Existing Rooflight Be Replaced Without Changing the Roof Opening?
Yes, an existing rooflight can usually be replaced without altering the roof opening if the new unit matches the size and shape of the current opening. The process involves measuring the existing frame, selecting a compatible replacement, and fitting the new rooflight into the original space, but if the new design requires a different size or structural support, extra work or permissions may be needed. We recommend that you consult a windows and door specialist Heathfield before starting, as a professional assessment confirms compatibility and helps avoid unexpected issues during installation.
Once you’ve consulted with a specialist and decided to proceed, preparing your home for the assessment and installation will help ensure everything goes smoothly.
How Should You Prepare for Your Heathfield Consultation?
Preparing for your appointment with Bowalker Windows Limited helps us deliver a smooth assessment and installation by making sure access to all windows and doors is clear, pets are secured, and any questions or concerns are ready for discussion. Letting us know about the age of your property or details of previous installations allows our team to recommend the most fitting solutions for your home. If you have any special requirements or access needs, please communicate these in advance so we can plan your visit accordingly.
