What Are the Benefits of Installing Fixed Windows?
Installing fixed windows improves insulation, increases natural daylight, reduces maintenance requirements and strengthens security through their sealed, non-opening design. Modern fixed windows use high-performance Low-E double glazing and thermally efficient frames to reduce heat loss, maintain indoor comfort and support long-term durability, while providing clear, uninterrupted views and Window Energy Ratings up to A++.
Six key benefits of installing fixed windows are:
Better Insulation & Energy Efficiency
Improves thermal performance by using sealed, argon-filled glazing units that reduce heat transfer and maintain stable indoor temperatures, with U-values as low as 1.2 W/m²K.
Low Maintenance & Long-Lasting
Uses durable materials such as uPVC or aluminium that resist wear, reducing ongoing maintenance and ensuring long-term performance.
Maximises Natural Light
Allows more daylight into interior spaces, creating brighter rooms and reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.
More Affordable Installation
Requires fewer mechanical components than opening windows, making installation more cost-effective while maintaining performance.
Improves Security Without Openings
Eliminates opening mechanisms, reducing potential entry points and increasing overall home security, with PAS 24 options available.

Read moreI had replacement windows installed. Design and advice was good and cost was competitive. Installation was started in a good time to a good standard.
Read moreBowalker have been incredibly helpful and provided me with extremely useful information about the windows and doors at a property I moved into, previously supplied by them. Great customer service, really recommend
Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are Fixed Windows?
Fixed windows are non-opening windows designed to provide natural light, clear views and improved insulation through a fully sealed glazing unit. These windows do not include hinges, handles or opening mechanisms, which increases thermal efficiency, reduces draughts and improves overall security. Fixed windows are commonly used in living rooms, stairwells and feature walls, often combined with opening windows to create balanced, functional glazing designs.
How Much Does Fixed Window Installation Cost?
Fixed-window installation in the UK costs between £200 and £900 per window fully fitted, rising to £1,500+ for large picture or floor-to-ceiling units. Being non-opening, fixed windows are generally cheaper than casement windows, with standard picture windows averaging around £500 to £850 supply-only and labour adding roughly £100 to £150 per window. Final pricing depends on size, frame material (uPVC, aluminium or timber), glazing and property access.
What Materials Are Fixed Windows Made From?
Fixed windows are made from materials such as uPVC, aluminium or timber, selected for durability, insulation and structural performance. These materials are combined with double or triple glazing, Low-E coatings and sealed units to improve thermal efficiency, security and long-term reliability.
How Long Does Fixed Window Installation Take?
Fixed window installation takes 1 to 2 hours per window, with most standard installations completed within a single day. The total time may vary depending on window size, access, removal of existing frames and any required structural adjustments.
What Guarantee Do You Provide on Fixed Window Installation?
Bowalker Windows Limited provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on all fixed-window installations, ensuring peace of mind and long-lasting performance. This covers workmanship and installation quality, giving homeowners confidence that their fixed windows are installed to the highest professional standards and comply with FENSA regulations and Building Regulations Part L.
Do I Need to Be at Home During the Installation?
No, you do not need to be home for the fixed-window installation, as long as we have access to the property and your preferences are confirmed in advance. Our fully in-house team of installers will carry out the work professionally, ensuring secure handling, careful installation and full adherence to your specified fixed-window design and requirements.
How Much Does It Cost to Replace Fixed Windows?
Replacing fixed windows in the UK costs between £300 and £1,400 or more per window, depending on size, material and glazing specification. Standard uPVC replacements run from £500 to £800 fitted, aluminium from £700 to £1,400 and timber from £600 to £1,200. The final cost is also affected by removal of existing frames, access requirements and any structural repairs, and replacing several windows at once usually reduces the per-window price.
What Are the Maintenance Tips for Fixed Windows?
Maintenance tips for fixed windows include regular cleaning of the glass and frames, checking seals to prevent draughts and inspecting sealant or caulk for cracks every 6 months to ensure airtight insulation. uPVC and aluminium frames require minimal upkeep, while timber frames may need occasional sealing or repainting to maintain durability and performance.
