Types Of Windows We Install
Satin Glass Sash Windows
Satin Glass Sash Windows
Combining traditional vertical sliding styling with a smooth, uniform privacy finish, satin glass sash windows suit bathrooms, overlooked rooms and period properties where privacy is required without compromising traditional character. Unlike textured obscure glass patterns, satin glass produces an even, frosted appearance that diffuses natural light consistently across the pane, making it a popular choice for rooms where both aesthetics and privacy matter. We install and replace satin glass sash windows with energy-efficient sealed units, secure balance systems and precisely fitted frames in uPVC, timber and aluminium.
Learn More →Satin Glass Flush Windows
Satin Glass Flush Windows
Sitting level within the frame for a clean, understated exterior profile, satin glass flush windows suit period properties, bathrooms and contemporary homes where controlled visibility and refined proportions are both priorities. The smooth, translucent finish of satin glass diffuses daylight evenly without the surface texture of patterned obscure glass, giving flush windows a particularly clean appearance from both inside and outside the property. Our in-house installers install satin glass flush windows with energy-efficient sealed units, a secure multipoint locking system and accurately measured frames in uPVC, timber and aluminium.
Learn More →Period-style profiles combined with smooth satin privacy glazing allow heritage windows to maintain traditional character in listed buildings, conservation areas and period homes where a heavily textured obscure glass pattern would look visually unsuitable. The smooth, understated appearance of satin glass can complement traditional window designs where a less decorative privacy finish is preferred, subject to relevant conservation or listed-building requirements where applicable. Bowalker installs and replaces satin glass heritage windows with sympathetic profiles, energy-efficient sealed units and precise period detailing, helping preserve architectural character whilst improving privacy and comfort.
Learn More →Ground-floor bay windows on overlooked elevations benefit particularly from satin glass, which can be specified across selected panes rather than the full bay to retain clear views where sightlines are less exposed. Most closely associated with Victorian terraced houses and Edwardian semis, bay windows in prominent street-facing positions often require privacy glazing to the lower sections whilst maintaining clear glazing above. We install and replace satin glass bay windows with carefully positioned privacy glazing, energy-efficient sealed units and secure frames in uPVC, aluminium and timber.
Learn More →Where a curved head adds architectural interest to a bathroom, entrance area or feature elevation, satin glass arched windows combine the distinctive arched profile with a smooth translucent finish that restricts clear views whilst diffusing natural light evenly. These windows require accurately shaped frames and glazing to maintain consistent proportions across the curved opening. Our in-house installers fit satin glass arched windows with accurately shaped frames, secure glazing systems and energy-efficient sealed units, improving privacy and comfort without compromising the curved design.
Learn More →Traditional cottage-style proportions, divided lights and heritage moulding profiles define this window type, and the clean, uniform appearance of satin glass complements period detailing more naturally than heavily textured patterned alternatives. Suitable for bathrooms, overlooked ground-floor rooms and rural properties, satin glass cottage windows allow daylight through consistently whilst restricting direct visibility from neighbouring properties or passing foot traffic. We install and replace satin glass cottage windows with appropriate frame detailing, energy-efficient sealed units and secure fittings, preserving property character whilst improving privacy and thermal comfort.
Learn More →Carefully matched profiles and understated privacy glazing make satin glass historic windows suitable for bathrooms, entrance areas and overlooked rooms within period properties where maintaining architectural character is important. The smooth, even finish can complement traditional window designs without introducing heavily patterned glazing, with the glazing and frame specification selected to suit the property's character and relevant conservation requirements where applicable. Bowalker installs and replaces satin glass historic windows with sympathetic frames, energy-efficient sealed units and careful installation, improving privacy and comfort whilst maintaining a traditional appearance.
Learn More →Large fixed glazed areas that distribute natural light evenly whilst restricting clear views make satin glass picture windows a practical solution for stairwells, entrance areas and overlooked elevations where diffused daylight and privacy are both needed. With no opening sash or operating hardware, fixed units can support strong sealing and thermal performance when correctly specified and installed. We install and replace satin glass picture windows with energy-efficient sealed units, secure structural frames and precise installation, creating bright interiors without compromising privacy.
Learn More →Where industrial-inspired styling and controlled visibility are both required, satin glass Crittall-style windows combine slim grid-style profiles with a smooth translucent finish suited to contemporary bathrooms, internal feature spaces and modern properties. The even satin finish complements the geometric grid appearance more cleanly than heavily textured glazing, providing privacy without obscuring characteristic architectural detailing. Bowalker installs satin glass Crittall-style windows with thermally broken aluminium frames, multipoint locking, carefully aligned glazing bars and energy-efficient sealed units.
Learn More →Satin Glass uPVC Windows
Satin Glass uPVC Windows
Low-maintenance construction, strong thermal performance and straightforward cleaning make satin glass uPVC windows a practical choice for bathrooms, ground-floor rooms and overlooked elevations. Multi-chambered profiles can be combined with satin privacy glazing and secure multipoint locking to provide reliable everyday performance across traditional and contemporary properties. We install and replace satin glass uPVC windows with energy-efficient sealed units, internally glazed frame options and a wide range of colours and woodgrain foil finishes, combining privacy with durability and easy maintenance.
Learn More →Satin Glass Aluminium Windows
Satin Glass Aluminium Windows
Where privacy and clean architectural lines are both priorities, satin glass aluminium windows combine slim profiles with thermally broken frames suited to contemporary bathrooms, entrance areas and modern extensions. The smooth satin finish works naturally alongside aluminium's clean sightlines, avoiding the visual conflict that heavily textured glazing can introduce. For a durable, low-maintenance result, Bowalker installs and replaces satin glass aluminium windows with energy-efficient privacy glazing, secure multipoint hardware and powder-coated finishes across a wide range of RAL colours.
Learn More →Natural character and traditional detailing make satin glass timber windows particularly suitable for cottages, period homes and heritage properties where privacy needs to complement the existing architecture. Engineered timber can improve dimensional stability compared with traditional solid timber, whilst the smooth satin finish provides privacy and diffused natural light without introducing heavily patterned glazing. We install and replace satin glass timber windows with energy-efficient sealed units, durable microporous paint or stain finishes and robust hardware, maintaining traditional character whilst supporting insulation and long-term durability.
Learn More →Satin Glass Fixed Windows
Satin Glass Fixed Windows
Non-opening by design, fixed satin glass windows provide diffused natural light and privacy in stairwells, bathrooms and entrance areas where ventilation is provided by adjacent windows or mechanical extraction. With no opening sash or operating hardware, fixed units can support strong sealing and thermal performance when correctly specified and installed while requiring relatively little ongoing maintenance. We install and replace satin glass fixed windows with energy-efficient sealed units, secure structural frames and precise installation, providing a simple and durable privacy solution.
Learn More →Offering both ventilation and privacy, satin glass casement windows combine side-hung or top-hung opening sections with smooth translucent glazing and secure multipoint locking, making them a practical choice for bathrooms, cloakrooms and overlooked rooms. Trickle vents can be incorporated where background ventilation is needed alongside the opening section, with uPVC, aluminium and timber frame options available to suit the existing property. To maintain privacy, ventilation and thermal comfort, Bowalker installs and replaces satin glass casement windows with energy-efficient sealed units, multipoint locking and durable compression weather seals.
Learn More →Providing two opening positions within one frame, satin glass tilt and turn windows tilt inward at the top for controlled background ventilation or swing fully open on the vertical axis for easier internal cleaning, making them a practical choice for bathrooms, apartments and overlooked rooms where flexible operation and privacy are both required. We install and replace satin glass tilt and turn windows with secure locking hardware, energy-efficient sealed units and precision-engineered mechanisms, providing flexible ventilation whilst maintaining privacy.
Learn More →Recreating traditional sash-style operation with spring-loaded or counterbalanced systems, satin glass vertical sliding windows suit period properties and overlooked rooms where traditional appearance and privacy are both important. The smooth, even finish complements period proportions and traditional ironmongery more naturally than heavily patterned obscure glass, making it a sympathetic choice for Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian properties. To maintain period character whilst improving privacy and comfort, Bowalker installs and replaces satin glass vertical sliding windows with smooth balance systems, secure cam locks and energy-efficient sealed units.
Learn More →Multiple folding panels allow satin glass bifold windows to create wider openings whilst maintaining privacy and a consistent appearance when closed. Satin glazing can be specified across all panels or selected sections depending on the required level of privacy, making these windows suitable for garden rooms, contemporary living spaces and other areas where flexible ventilation and reduced visibility are priorities. We install and replace satin glass bifold windows with precision-engineered aluminium or timber frames, secure locking hardware and energy-efficient sealed units for reliable everyday operation.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Satin Windows?
Installing satin windows provides greater privacy whilst maintaining natural light, with a smooth, translucent finish that creates an understated appearance across both traditional and contemporary properties. Satin glass can also be incorporated into energy-efficient sealed units and different frame systems, allowing privacy glazing to work alongside appropriate thermal, security and ventilation specifications.
Enhances Privacy While Maintaining Natural Light
Satin glass restricts clear visibility through the window whilst allowing daylight to enter, making it particularly useful where privacy is required without creating a dark interior.
Provides a Smooth, Contemporary Finish
The uniform matt appearance creates a clean, understated alternative to heavily textured or patterned privacy glass and works particularly well with modern window designs.
Offers Consistent Light Diffusion
The translucent surface softens and diffuses incoming daylight, helping create a more evenly lit interior whilst maintaining visual privacy.
Works With Energy-Efficient Glazing Systems
Satin glass can form part of insulated glazing specifications incorporating appropriate thermal-performance glass, allowing privacy and energy efficiency to be addressed within the same window system. Saint-Gobain specifically notes that its satin glass can provide thermal-insulation properties when combined with suitable specialist glazing.
Complements Traditional and Contemporary Window Styles
Its understated appearance works across uPVC, aluminium and timber frames and can be incorporated into sash, casement, fixed, tilt and turn and other window configurations.
Suitable for Bathrooms and Overlooked Spaces
Satin glazing is particularly useful for bathrooms, entrance areas and ground-floor or overlooked rooms where reduced visibility and good natural light are both priorities. Acid-etched privacy glass is specifically marketed for window and bathroom applications in the UK.

Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are Satin Windows?
Satin windows are windows that use privacy glass with a smooth, translucent or matt finish that restricts clear visibility whilst allowing natural light into the room. Satin finishes are commonly produced using acid-etched glass, creating an even appearance suited to bathrooms, entrance areas and overlooked spaces.
How Long Does Satin Window Installation Take?
Satin glass window installation takes around 30 minutes to 2 hours per window, depending on its size, opening mechanism, accessibility and the condition of the existing opening. Larger or bespoke windows and multiple replacements may require additional time. Our in-house installers survey, install and check each window carefully to ensure secure installation and reliable operation.
How Do You Clean Satin Windows?
Clean satin glass using warm water, mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth, wiping evenly across the surface to remove fingerprints, soap residue and general dirt. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals and solvent-based cleaners that could affect the glass surface, glazing seals or frame finish. Rinse with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth.
How Do You Choose the Right Satin Windows for Your Home?
Choose the right satin glass windows by considering the level of privacy required, room location, frame material, opening mechanism and architectural style of your property. Bathrooms and overlooked rooms can benefit from satin glazing for greater privacy, whilst casement or tilt and turn designs provide additional ventilation where required. During your consultation, we assess your property and recommend a configuration that balances privacy, natural light, ventilation and thermal performance.
What Satin Window Design Ideas Should You Consider for Your Home?
Consider satin glass window design ideas such as full satin glazing for bathroom privacy, partial satin glazing for entrance areas, satin sash windows for period properties and slim aluminium satin windows for contemporary homes. These designs can be combined with uPVC, timber or aluminium frames and fixed, casement or tilt and turn openings to suit the property’s architecture. Using matching satin glazing across related windows can also create a consistent exterior appearance.
What Guarantee Do You Provide on Satin Window Installation?
Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying satin glass window installation and replacement work. Our FENSA registration (Reg. 33081) applies to qualifying replacement window installations completed under the scheme and provides certification of compliance with applicable Building Regulations requirements.
