Types of Residential Doors We Install and Replace
Residential Entrance Door
Residential Entrance Door
Traditional styling combined with robust security and thermal insulation gives residential entrance doors a dependable, welcoming appearance suited to front, side, or back entrances. Panels can be fully glazed, part-glazed, or solid depending on the privacy, daylight and residential access requirements. You can choose standard or custom configurations to suit your property's entrance proportions and architectural style. Bowalker installs and replaces these residential doors with suitable high-performance glazing, secure multi-point hardware, weather-resistant seals and carefully aligned frames for everyday household access.
Learn More →Residential Cornerless Door
Residential Cornerless Door
Large glazed areas with minimal visible framing create wide, unobstructed openings in residential cornerless doors, whilst maintaining structural integrity and thermal performance. These residential door systems can connect kitchens, living areas and extensions with patios or gardens while maintaining continuous sightlines across adjoining glazed panels. Openings can be configured around the property's dimensions and architectural design. Using carefully surveyed panels and accurately aligned frames, we install and replace cornerless residential doors to create a balanced connection between indoor and outdoor areas.
Learn More →uPVC Residential Door
uPVC Residential Door
Multi-chambered uPVC frames provide thermal insulation and weather resistance combined with the low-maintenance characteristics required for everyday residential doors. Frames can be selected in white, woodgrain or available contemporary colours to coordinate front, rear or side entrances with existing windows and exterior finishes. The frame profile, glazing and hardware can also suit the property's access requirements. Our in-house team installs and replaces uPVC residential doors with suitable sealed glazing, secure multipoint locking, weather-resistant seals and precise frame alignment.
Learn More →Aluminium Residential Doors
Aluminium Residential Doors
Slim, thermally broken aluminium frames create a modern appearance suited to residential entrances, extensions and large glazed openings. Aluminium residential doors can combine narrow sightlines with substantial glazed areas, making the material suitable for entrance, sliding, bifold and French door configurations. Frames can be powder-coated in available RAL colours to coordinate with the property's windows and exterior design. We install and replace aluminium residential doors using structurally suitable frames, secure hardware, compatible glazing, weather-resistant seals and carefully aligned door panels.
Learn More →Timber Residential Doors
Timber Residential Doors
Natural timber frames provide residential doors with traditional material character suited to cottages, period properties and homes with existing timber joinery. Timber residential doors can serve front, rear, and side entrances, with painted or stained finishes, solid panels, or glazed sections selected to suit the property's architecture. Door furniture and glazing can also coordinate with existing windows and joinery. We install and replace timber residential doors using accurately measured frames, suitable glazing, secure hardware, weather-resistant detailing, and carefully applied finishes, all selected for the home's entrance.
Learn More →Residential Steel Door
Residential Steel Door
Slim steel frames create defined sightlines and a structured appearance suited to contemporary homes, architectural renovations and industrial-inspired residential interiors. Residential steel doors can incorporate large glazed sections while providing a defined frame structure for internal openings, entrances or connections between household spaces where the selected system is suitable. Glazing, hardware and available powder-coated finishes can coordinate with the property's design. Our in-house team installs and replaces residential steel doors using accurately surveyed frames, secure hardware and carefully aligned glazing.
Learn More →Residential Composite Door
Residential Composite Door
Residential composite doors combine multiple construction materials in the door leaf, providing a practical option for main entrances and other exterior residential openings. Their construction allows homeowners to combine entrance-door styling with glazing, multipoint locking, weather-resistant seals, and various panel configurations within a single residential door system. Colours, hardware, and decorative glazing can be selected to suit the property's exterior design. We install and replace residential composite doors using precisely measured frames, appropriate glazing, secure hardware, and carefully aligned door leaves to ensure safe household access.
Learn More →Internal Glazed Residential Door
Internal Glazed Residential Door
Internal glazed residential doors use glass panels to separate rooms while allowing light to pass between adjoining household spaces. Depending on privacy and daylight requirements, glazing can occupy part or most of the residential door leaf and can be combined with timber, aluminium, steel or other compatible frames. These doors are suitable for kitchens, hallways, living rooms, and other interior spaces where light transmission is required. Bowalker installs and replaces internal glazed residential doors using accurately measured frames, suitable glass and carefully aligned hardware.
Learn More →Residential Solar Glass Door
Residential Solar Glass Door
Residential solar glass doors use solar-control glazing designed to manage solar energy passing through larger glazed residential door areas. This glazing can be considered for household openings exposed to substantial sunlight, including sliding, bifold, and French doors connecting living spaces to gardens, patios, or terraces. The glass specification can be selected based on the orientation, glazed area, and compatible residential door system. Our in-house team installs and replaces residential solar glass doors with compatible glazing, accurately surveyed frames, secure hardware and carefully fitted sealed units.
Learn More →Residential Acoustic Glass Door
Residential Acoustic Glass Door
Acoustic laminated glass reduces outside noise intrusion, making it suitable for residential doors in homes near busy roads, flight paths or urban centres. The specialised interlayer dampens sound waves while allowing glazed entrance, sliding, bifold, or French doors to retain natural light. Glass thickness, laminated construction, sealed units, and compatible frames can be specified to suit the household opening and acoustic requirements. We install and replace residential acoustic glass doors using precision-sealed units, sound-dampening frame gaskets, secure hardware and carefully fitted glazing.
Learn More →Residential Obscure Glass Door
Residential Obscure Glass Door
Obscure glass provides privacy for bathrooms, utility rooms, and side entrances without blocking natural light from entering through the residential door. Various patterns and levels of obscurity allow homeowners to control visibility based on the door's location and surrounding household spaces. Full-height, part-glazed or decorative panels can balance privacy, daylight and residential door design. Bowalker installs and replaces residential obscure glass doors using durable patterned glazing, compatible frames, secure hardware, and accurately fitted glass, selected to meet each property's privacy and access requirements.
Learn More →Residential Patterned Glass Door
Residential Patterned Glass Door
Textured and decorative patterned glass introduces distinctive visual detailing and varying levels of privacy across residential door panels. Different surface patterns can complement traditional or modern homes and can be incorporated into entrance, internal and French doors according to the required household setting. Pattern scale, glass texture and panel proportions can coordinate with surrounding residential windows, frames and architectural details. We install and replace residential patterned glass doors using suitable textured safety glass, compatible sealed units, accurately measured frames and carefully fitted glazing.
Learn More →Residential Triple Glazed Door
Residential Triple Glazed Door
Three panes of glass, separated by insulating, gas-filled cavities, create a multi-layered glazing system designed to improve the thermal and acoustic performance of residential doors. Triple glazing can suit external household entrances and larger glazed doors where compatible frames and hardware can accommodate the increased glass thickness and weight. Sealed-unit dimensions and frame construction must work with the complete residential door system. At Bowalker, we install and replace triple-glazed residential doors using compatible framing, secure hardware, suitable seals and accurately fitted glazed units.
Learn More →Residential Toughened Glass Door
Residential Toughened Glass Door
Toughened safety glass undergoes a thermal tempering process that increases its strength and changes how it breaks when shattered. It can be specified for residential doorways and glazed areas where appropriate safety glazing is required for the location and door configuration. Toughened glazing can be incorporated into entrance, internal, sliding, bifold and French residential doors. Bowalker installs and replaces toughened-glass residential doors using appropriately specified safety glass, compatible frames, secure glazing retention methods, and accurately measured panels for each household opening.
Learn More →Residential Satin Glass Door
Residential Satin Glass Door
Satin glass features an acid-etched matte surface that diffuses light while restricting direct visibility through a residential door's glazed section. Its smooth appearance suits entrance doors, internal glazed doors and household openings where homeowners want natural light without clear views between spaces. Full-height or smaller glazed panels can be configured around the residential door design, privacy requirements and surrounding architecture. We install and replace satin-glass residential doors using suitable privacy glazing, compatible frames, secure hardware, and accurately fitted glass.
Learn More →Astragal Bars on Residential Door
Astragal Bars on Residential Door
Applied astragal bars sit on the glass surface to recreate the appearance of traditional divided-light panes across glazed residential doors. They can coordinate with internal spacer bars to create greater depth and defined shadow lines suited to cottages, period homes and traditionally styled residential entrances. Diamond, square-grid, Georgian-style and bespoke configurations can be proportioned around the door and surrounding windows. Our in-house team installs and replaces residential doors featuring astragal bars using precise layouts, compatible glazing, and coordinated finishes selected to complement the property's architecture.
Learn More →Residential Sliding Door
Residential Sliding Door
Large glazed sliding panels create wide, unobstructed openings while saving interior and exterior space during everyday residential use. These residential doors can connect kitchens, living rooms, and extensions to gardens, patios, or terraces without requiring the swing space that hinged doors need. Single or multi-track arrangements can be configured around the household opening, access requirements and available width. Bowalker installs and replaces residential sliding doors using compatible track systems, secure locking mechanisms, suitable glazing, weather-resistant detailing and accurately aligned panels for consistent operation.
Learn More →Residential Bifold Door
Residential Bifold Door
Multiple folding glazed panels stack neatly to one or both sides, creating a wide connection between the home and garden. Residential bifold doors can open kitchens, dining areas, living rooms and extensions towards patios or outdoor spaces while folding into a compact panel stack. Top-hung or bottom-rolling systems can be specified around the residential opening and panel configuration. We install and replace residential bifold doors using compatible folding hardware, secure locking systems, weather-resistant seals, and carefully aligned panels to ensure smooth operation in your home.
Learn More →Residential French Door
Residential French Door
Two hinged glazed panels open outward or inward, combining a classic double-door arrangement with practical everyday access for residential properties. French doors can connect kitchens, living rooms, and other household spaces to gardens, patios, or balconies while providing a symmetrical glazed opening. Traditional or contemporary hardware, frame materials, colours and glazing can complement the home's architectural design. Our in-house team installs and replaces residential French doors using suitable glazing, heavy-duty hinges, multipoint locking, weather-resistant seals and carefully aligned door leaves.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Residential Doors?
Installing modern residential doors provides improved thermal insulation, reduced external noise, enhanced property security, lower maintenance costs, improved kerb appeal, and increased overall property value. High-quality entrance and garden doors act as a thermal barrier for your living spaces while utilising modern locking technology to provide superior peace of mind.
Improves Thermal Efficiency
Highly insulated door cores, multi-chambered frames, and A-rated double or triple glazing cut heat loss through your entranceways by up to 60%, lower home energy usage, and keep cold draughts away.
Enhances Structural Home Security
Bowalker installs residential doors fitted with high-security multi-point locking systems, anti-snap cylinders, and PAS 24-compliant hardware as standard, vastly increasing structural resistance to forced entry.
Reduces External Noise
Tightly sealed perimeter gaskets and acoustic double-glazed door panels reduce external sound transmission by 35-40 decibels, creating a quieter interior environment away from busy roads and flight paths.
Elevates Kerb Appeal and Appearance
Modern residential doors are available in an extensive range of solid colours, realistic woodgrain finishes, and premium architectural hardware to perfectly match both heritage and contemporary houses.
Provides Low-Maintenance Durability
Unlike old timber doors that require frequent sanding, varnishing, or repainting, modern composite, uPVC, and aluminium profiles resist rot and warping, requiring only a wipe-down with a cloth every few months.
Increases Property Market Value
Installing modern, secure, and energy-efficient double-glazed doors raises your home's energy performance rating (EPC) and boosts structural kerb appeal, a major selling point for UK estate agents.

Read moreSimon and Brandon fitted our three windows in our garage > studio conversion and were great through the day. Arrived when they said they would, were very polite, respectful and pleasant people. Found answers to questions we didn’t realise about the installation and though we haven’t yet finished the project the windows are a very exciting and big step forward for us. Would recommend this company and this team without hesitation. Thank you!

Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Residential Doors?
Residential doors are practical, high-security, and energy-efficient entrance or secondary access solutions designed for rear, side, or alternative doorways. They are engineered from durable materials such as high-performance uPVC or sleek aluminium to seal homes tightly against the UK weather, maximise natural light, and provide dependable daily security without the higher cost tier of custom timber or heavy composite entrance systems.
How Do You Clean a Residential Door?
Clean a residential door with warm water, mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth, paying attention to the door leaf, frame, glazing and areas around the hardware. Cleaning requirements can vary between uPVC, aluminium, timber, steel and composite residential doors, so products should be compatible with the selected frame and finish. Remove debris from sliding or bifold tracks with a soft brush, and avoid abrasive pads or unsuitable chemicals that could damage the glazing, seals, coatings or door surface.
How Do You Choose the Right Residential Door for Your Home?
Choose the right residential door by considering its location, opening dimensions, frame material, glazing, security, privacy, thermal requirements and architectural style. Composite or uPVC doors can suit residential entrances, while aluminium sliding and bifold doors can accommodate larger glazed openings that connect living spaces to gardens or patios. Timber can complement period properties and existing joinery. During your consultation, Bowalker assesses the opening and helps specify a residential door configuration suited to your property and installation requirements.
What Residential Door Design Ideas Should You Consider for Your Home?
Consider residential door designs that coordinate the frame material, colour, glazing, hardware and opening configuration with your property’s architectural character. Traditional homes can use timber or composite entrance doors with patterned glazing or astragal bars, while contemporary properties can incorporate aluminium sliding, bifold or cornerless doors with larger glazed areas and narrow sightlines. French doors can create symmetrical garden access, while obscure, satin or patterned glazing can introduce privacy where required. Coordinating doors with existing windows can create consistent exterior detailing.
What Guarantee Do You Provide for Residential Door Installation?
Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying residential door installation and replacement work, giving homeowners defined protection for eligible installations. Our in-house installers manage each project from the measured survey and door specification through to fitting and final inspection, with no third-party subcontractors involved. Bowalker is FENSA-registered (33081), and qualifying replacement external door installations can be registered with FENSA where applicable.
