Types of Obscure Glass Doors We Install and Replace

Obscure Glass Entrance Doors

Obscure Glass Entrance Doors

Allowing daylight into entrance areas whilst limiting visibility, obscure glass entrance doors suit front entrances where privacy matters without using a fully solid panel. Privacy glazing can be specified from Level 1 for the least obscuration to Level 5 for the greatest obscuration, allowing you to balance light transmission and visibility for each entrance. We install and replace obscure glass entrance doors with suitable privacy glazing, toughened or laminated glass where appropriate, secure multipoint locking and weather-resistant frames.

Obscure Glass Cornerless Doors

Obscure Glass Cornerless Doors

Large privacy-glazed panels with minimal visible framing create wide openings in obscure glass cornerless doors, combining natural light with reduced visibility between connected spaces. You can choose textured, patterned, or frosted glazing based on the required level of obscuration, whilst the frame configuration depends on the selected door system. Bowalker installs and replaces obscure glass cornerless doors with carefully aligned panels, suitable safety glazing and secure hardware for a clean architectural finish.

Obscure Glass uPVC Doors

Obscure Glass uPVC Doors

Low-maintenance, multi-chambered uPVC frames are a practical choice for obscure glass doors where privacy, natural light and straightforward upkeep are priorities. Privacy glazing is available across five obscuration levels, from Level 1 for subtle distortion to Level 5 for near-complete opacity, with patterned, textured and satin finishes to suit different entrance styles. We install and replace obscure glass uPVC doors with energy-efficient sealed units, secure multipoint locking and weather-resistant frames.

Obscure Glass Aluminium Doors

Obscure Glass Aluminium Doors

Slim thermally broken aluminium profiles combined with privacy glazing suit contemporary entrances, extensions and larger glazed openings where narrow sightlines and daylight are priorities. Polyamide thermal breaks help reduce heat transfer through the frame, whilst the glazing specification determines privacy, light transmission and solar-control performance. Bowalker installs and replaces obscure glass aluminium doors with thermally broken frames, secure multipoint hardware and durable powder-coated finishes, with RAL colour options available depending on the selected system.

Obscure Glass Timber Doors

Obscure Glass Timber Doors

Timber frames combined with textured, patterned or frosted glazing make obscure glass timber doors suitable for cottages, period properties and homes where natural joinery complements the existing architecture. Flemish, Cathedral and Cotswold are among the patterned options available, providing different textures and obscuration characteristics whilst allowing natural light through the glazing. Our in-house team installs and replaces obscure glass timber doors with suitable privacy glazing, secure hardware and durable timber finishes.

Obscure Glass Steel Doors

Obscure Glass Steel Doors

Slim robust steel frames combined with privacy glazing create a distinctive industrial appearance suited to contemporary properties, feature entrances and architectural interiors where narrow frame sections and defined glazing are priorities. Textured or frosted glass reduces outside visibility whilst maintaining natural light diffusion, with obscuration levels selected to match the exposure and privacy requirements of each opening. Bowalker installs and replaces obscure glass steel doors with carefully aligned privacy glazing, secure multipoint hardware and durable powder-coated finishes suited to the door design and opening requirements.

Obscure Glass Composite Doors

Obscure Glass Composite Doors

Composite construction combined with privacy glazing makes obscure glass composite doors suitable for entrances where natural light, security and thermal performance are all required without fully exposing the interior to outside visibility. Composite doors typically incorporate an insulated foam or timber core within a durable GRP outer skin, providing strong dimensional stability and insulation performance alongside the chosen privacy glazing specification. Bowalker installs and replaces obscure glass composite doors with suitable privacy glazing, secure multipoint locking and weather-resistant finishes for dependable everyday performance.

Obscure Glass Sliding Doors

Obscure Glass Sliding Doors

Horizontally sliding panels with privacy glazing move along top-hung or floor-supported tracks to create wide openings without the floor-space demands of a swing door, making obscure glass sliding doors well suited to patios, extensions and contemporary interiors where reduced visibility and smooth operation are both required. Soft-close mechanisms, multipoint locking systems and thermally broken frame options are available depending on the selected system and opening dimensions. We install and replace obscure glass sliding doors with precision-engineered track systems, secure locking hardware and carefully aligned privacy glazing.

Obscure Glass Bifold Doors

Obscure Glass Bifold Doors

Multiple folding panels with privacy glazing stack neatly to one side when open, creating wide unobstructed openings whilst limiting visibility through the closed panels, making obscure glass bifold doors a practical choice for extensions, garden rooms and contemporary interiors. Bottom-rolling track systems are most commonly specified for bifold doors, providing smooth panel movement and secure closure across the full width of the opening. Privacy glazing is available across five obscuration levels, with toughened or laminated options available depending on security and safety requirements.

Obscure Glass French Doors

Obscure Glass French Doors

Two hinged panels incorporating privacy glazing swing outward or inward on heavy-duty hinges to create a wider opening than a single door whilst limiting outside visibility, making obscure glass French doors suited to traditional and contemporary properties where a classic hinged double-door arrangement is preferred. Multipoint locking systems secure both panels at multiple points when closed, with shoot bolts typically used to fix the inactive leaf to the frame. Bowalker installs and replaces obscure glass French doors with secure heavy-duty hinges, suitable multipoint locking and compression weather-resistant perimeter seals.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Obscure glass doors incorporate textured, patterned, frosted or privacy-oriented glazing to reduce visibility whilst allowing natural light to pass through. Obscuration levels range from Level 1, which introduces subtle distortion whilst maintaining good light transmission, to Level 5, which provides near-complete privacy whilst still diffusing daylight effectively, with intermediate levels offering a graduated balance between visibility restriction and natural light for different entrance positions and orientations.

Obscure glass door installation typically takes around 1 to 3 hours for a standard door, depending on the size, frame condition and fitting requirements. Larger sliding, bifold or bespoke door systems may require additional time for accurate alignment and adjustment. Our in-house installers complete the fitting, sealing, hardware adjustment and final operational checks before completing the installation.

Clean obscure glass doors with warm water, mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth, working gently across textured or patterned areas where dirt can collect. Use a soft-bristled brush for recessed patterns and avoid abrasive pads, bleach or solvent-based cleaners that could damage the glass surface, coatings or frame finish. Rinse with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth to minimise water marks, then keep tracks, hinges and drainage areas clear of debris.

Choose the right obscure glass door by considering the required privacy level, door location, frame material, opening mechanism, and how much natural light you want to retain. Frosted glass provides a clean, uniform finish, patterned glass adds decorative detail and reeded glass provides privacy with a more distinctive texture. During your consultation, we assess the opening and recommend a door configuration that balances privacy, appearance, security and practical use.

Consider obscure glass door design ideas such as frosted entrance doors for daytime privacy, reeded glass for contemporary interiors, patterned glazing for traditional properties and textured panels for decorative feature doors. Sliding doors can provide wide openings without swing space, whilst French and bifold doors offer different opening configurations for larger spaces. Frame materials and finishes can also match existing windows and doors for a coordinated appearance.

Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying obscure glass door installation and replacement work. Our in-house installers manage each project from measurement through to final fitting, ensuring consistent workmanship and accurate installation. Where applicable, we address relevant Building Regulations requirements and certification as part of the installation process.
