Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

No, planning permission is not usually required for standard window or door replacements in Godalming unless the property is listed, located in a conservation area, or the changes will significantly alter the appearance or materials of the installation. For most homes, replacing existing units with high quality, secure options such as uPVC windows or modern front doors does not trigger the need for formal approval, but exceptions apply if you are changing the style, size, or external look. Before starting any window and door specialist Godalming project, we recommend confirming your specific requirements with the local authority to avoid delays or compliance issues.

This is especially important if your property falls within one of Godalming’s designated conservation areas, where regulations are much more stringent.

Yes, replacement windows and doors in Godalming are subject to strict controls in several conservation areas, including Godalming Town Centre, Navigations & River Wey, Binscombe, Crown Pits, Ockford Road, and Munstead, where a ‘like-for-like’ standard applies to materials, design, and glazing. Any change from traditional timber to uPVC, alterations to glazing patterns, or visible design modifications usually require planning permission, and Article 4 Directions may impose further restrictions on specific properties or elevations. Listed buildings always require Listed Building Consent for any window or door changes, so we recommend checking your property’s status with Waverley Borough Council and consulting a windows and door specialist Godalming if your home is heritage, period, or potentially listed.

Yes, the best window styles for Godalming properties depend on the age and architectural style of the building. Flush casement windows offer a traditional look for heritage cottages, vertical sliding sash windows match Victorian and Georgian properties, standard casement windows provide versatility for both older and newer homes, tilt & turn windows fit modern spaces that need flexible ventilation, and slim-profile aluminium or uPVC windows complement contemporary builds. Each style is recommended based on how it aligns with local property types: flush casement and sash windows preserve period character, standard casement windows suit a variety of homes, tilt & turn windows add practical function to modern designs, and slim-profile frames maximise light and clean lines in recent developments. For more details on choosing the right windows and door specialist Godalming service, visit Bowalker Windows Limited.

The best door types for Godalming homes include composite, uPVC, timber, and aluminium bi-fold or sliding doors, each matching different property styles and requirements. Composite doors are ideal for security and thermal efficiency, making them a reliable choice for main entrances. uPVC doors offer a budget-friendly option with strong weather resistance, suitable for both traditional and modern properties. Timber doors are preferred for heritage homes or conservation areas, providing a natural look that aligns with period features. Aluminium bi-fold and sliding doors are well suited to modern extensions, offering slim frames and wide openings that connect indoor and outdoor spaces.

Yes, the right rooflight types for homes and extensions in Godalming depend on the property’s style and the intended use of the space. Fixed rooflights are ideal for areas where natural light is needed but ventilation is not, such as hallways or flat-roof extensions, while opening rooflights suit kitchens or bathrooms where airflow is important. Roof lanterns work well for larger extensions or open-plan living spaces, adding height and a modern look, and walk-on rooflights suit terraces or flat roofs that double as outdoor spaces. Each of these options is available in high quality, secure designs and is compatible with uPVC or double-glazed windows for consistent appearance and performance across your property. Choosing the right rooflight with Bowalker Windows Limited means your Godalming home or extension benefits from a tailored solution that fits both your design and practical needs.

Roofline products on a Godalming home should be replaced when you notice visible damage such as cracking or warping, persistent leaks around fascias or guttering, signs of rot or decay in timber elements, or age-related wear that affects appearance and function. These issues can compromise the weather resistance and security of your property, especially if the existing roofline is no longer compatible with modern uPVC windows or double glazing. If any of these conditions are present, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends a professional assessment to maintain reliable protection for your home.

Yes, Bowalker Windows offers a standard 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on all full window and door installations in Godalming, with compliance to FENSA regulations under registration number 33081. Our guarantee structure includes three tiers: the Silver guarantee covers frames for 10 years, glazed units for 5 years, and hardware or fitting for 1 year; the Gold guarantee extends coverage to 10 years for both frames and glazed units, 2 years for hardware and fitting, and 1 year for accidental or hardware cover; the Platinum guarantee provides 15 years on frames (with bi-annual maintenance), 10 years on glazed units and fitting, 3 years on hardware, and 5 years for accidental cover. For supply-only orders, a 1-year manufacturing defect guarantee applies. All guarantees are transferable to new property owners for a £25 fee if arranged within one month of sale, giving you long-term protection and assurance when choosing our windows and door specialist Godalming service.

Yes, we recommend regular maintenance for replacement windows in Godalming to keep high quality products looking and performing their best. Cleaning the frames and glass with non-abrasive products, checking seals for signs of wear, lubricating moving parts such as hinges and handles, and inspecting for visible damage are the main steps we advise for uPVC, double glazed, and high security windows. Following the manufacturer’s care instructions for your specific window type helps maintain appearance and function, and supports the long-term value of your installation from Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Godalming.

Just as with windows, doors benefit from a consistent maintenance routine to ensure their longevity and optimal performance.

We recommend regular maintenance for new doors, including uPVC, timber, and aluminium products. Cleaning the door surfaces with suitable non-abrasive products, checking hinges and locks for smooth operation, and inspecting weather seals for any signs of wear are key steps. Addressing minor issues such as loose handles or misaligned locks promptly helps maintain both appearance and reliable performance. By following these steps, you keep your new doors looking their best and functioning properly over time.

Just as doors benefit from consistent upkeep, rooflights also require regular attention to ensure they remain in optimal condition.

Yes, we recommend regular maintenance for rooflights as part of our windows and door specialist Godalming service, since routine care keeps them clear and functional. For high quality, uPVC, or double glazed rooflights, we advise cleaning the glass and frames with a non-abrasive cleaner, checking seals for any signs of leaks, clearing drainage channels to prevent water build-up, and inspecting for cracks or condensation. Following these steps helps maintain the appearance and performance of your rooflights, supporting long-term reliability and weather resistance for your Godalming property.

When maintenance is no longer sufficient or if damage occurs, you may need to consider replacing your rooflight entirely.

Yes, an existing rooflight can usually be replaced without altering the roof opening if the new unit matches the original size and shape and is structurally compatible with the existing roof. The replacement process depends on selecting a rooflight that fits the current aperture and ensuring the surrounding structure is sound.

Once you’ve confirmed that your chosen rooflight is suitable for replacement, preparing your home for the installation visit is the next important step.

Preparing for a visit from our installation team helps the assessment or fitting move forward without delays. We recommend four practical steps to make the process straightforward:

  • Clear access to all windows, doors, and rooflights by moving furniture, curtains, or blinds so our team can work safely and efficiently.
  • Secure pets in a separate room to prevent distractions and keep both your animals and our installers safe during the visit.
  • Write down any questions or concerns about uPVC, double glazing, or security features so we can address them during our time on site.
  • Arrange for someone to be present who can discuss your requirements and confirm details, especially if you are considering replacement products.

Following these steps allows Bowalker Windows Limited to deliver a focused and accurate service for your home improvement project.

Once your home is ready for our visit, you can expect a seamless experience guided by our dedicated in-house team from start to finish.
