Types of Casement Windows We Install and Replace

Side-hung casement windows are hinged on the side of the frame and open outward to the left or right, providing controlled airflow and a full, unobstructed opening. This configuration is best suited to bedrooms, living areas and kitchens where ventilation and natural light are a priority.
Bowalker installs and replaces side-hung casement windows in durable uPVC or aluminium frames, ensuring a precise fit, secure multi-point locking and smooth hinge movement for reliable everyday use.
A single casement window contains one operable sash within a single frame, available side-hung, top-hung or bottom-hung depending on ventilation requirements. Unlike a double casement, which opens from the centre with two sashes, a single casement keeps the design compact and straightforward.
Well suited to bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms where consistent airflow and ease of cleaning are required, Bowalker installs and replaces single casement windows in uPVC or aluminium frames, ensuring a secure fit, correct sealing and reliable long-term performance.
Double casement windows, also known as French casement windows, consist of two side-hinged sashes that open outward from the centre without a fixed mullion, creating a wide, unobstructed opening that maximises natural light and ventilation. Best suited to living rooms, dining areas and front-facing spaces where clear views and airflow are priorities.
Bowalker installs and replaces double casement windows with precision-aligned frames and balanced sashes, ensuring seamless opening, secure locking and enhanced visual appeal.
Flush casement windows sit level within the frame, creating a clean-lined appearance that replicates traditional window styles with a flat exterior finish and tight seal that improves insulation and energy efficiency. Ideal for period properties, cottages and contemporary homes requiring a classic yet modern look.
Bowalker installs and replaces flush casement windows with bespoke design options including a full range of colour finishes and frame materials. Every installation is tailored to match the property's architectural style whilst delivering durable, low-maintenance performance.
Stormproof casement windows feature an outer lip on the frame that overlaps the sash when closed, providing additional protection against wind and rain alongside robust weather-resistant seals and multi-point locking for enhanced security. Best suited to coastal locations, hilltop positions and properties prone to severe weather.
Bowalker installs and replaces stormproof casement windows using durable uPVC or aluminium frames with EPDM weather seals and A-rated double or triple glazing. Every installation ensures a secure fit, improved insulation and reliable long-term performance in the most exposed environments.
Top-hung casement windows, also known as awning windows, are hinged at the top and open outward from the bottom, allowing ventilation even during rain. This window features a sleek, functional design that provides privacy while maintaining airflow.
It is best suited to areas where space is limited or where you need ventilation without compromising security, such as kitchens, bathrooms and basements. Bowalker handles the installation and replacement of top-hung casement windows with precision, using durable materials such as uPVC or aluminium, ensuring smooth operation, excellent weather resistance and long-lasting performance.
Bottom-hung casement windows, also known as hopper windows, are hinged at the bottom and tilt inward for ventilation, offering a secure and space-efficient design. This window features smooth tilting action and a tight seal that improves energy efficiency and insulation.
It is ideal for basements, bathrooms or small spaces where top-hung windows are impractical but airflow is still required. Bowalker installs and replaces bottom-hung casement windows using high-quality materials such as uPVC or aluminium, ensuring a secure fit, easy operation and reliable performance that withstands daily use.
Fixed-light windows, also known as picture windows, are non-operable glazed panels designed to frame outdoor views and maximise natural light. With no opening sash, they suit living rooms, dining areas and any space where an expansive outlook takes priority over ventilation.
Bowalker installs and replaces fixed-light windows using energy-efficient double or triple glazing in durable uPVC or aluminium frames, ensuring excellent thermal performance and a clean finish that complements the wider casement window installation.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

At Bowalker, the installation rate for a casement window is £150, charged on top of the supply price, with standard casement windows starting from £1,084.52 for a 600×900 unit, rising to £1,861.39 for 1200×1200 and £2,451.40 for 1800×1200.

Casement windows are made from various materials, including uPVC, aluminium and timber. Each material offers unique benefits, such as durability, energy efficiency and low maintenance, allowing homeowners to choose the best option for their style and needs.

Casement window installation takes 2 to 4 hours per window, depending on the window size and installation complexity. A full installation for an average-sized home can take one or two days, including preparation and finishing touches.

Bowalker Windows offers a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on all casement window installations. This guarantee covers both the workmanship and the materials used, ensuring long-term reliability and peace of mind for homeowners.

No, you do not need to be at home during the installation once access to the property has been arranged with our team. Our in-house installers will work to a clear schedule, keep disruption to a minimum, remove and dispose of all old frames and ensure every window is securely fitted, sealed and tested before they leave.

Replacing casement windows in the UK costs between £500 and £1,800 per window, depending on frame material, size, glazing specification and installation complexity. Flush casement windows cost £450 to £750 supply only, and adding triple glazing adds £100 to £150 per window. Additional features such as Georgian bars, special RAL colours or acoustic glass increase the cost further.

At Bowalker, standard casement window supply prices start from £1,084.52 (600×900), with a £150 installation rate applied on top, inclusive of VAT, surveying, disposal of the old window and the 10-year insurance-backed guarantee. To maintain casement windows, regularly clean the glass and frame, lubricate hinges and locks to ensure smooth operation, and check the seals to prevent draughts. For uPVC or aluminium frames, a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is sufficient, whilst timber frames may require occasional painting or sealing to protect against moisture.
