Maximising natural light and creating unobstructed outdoor views are the primary advantages of uPVC picture windows, where large fixed glazed areas combine with multi-chambered uPVC profiles for reliable thermal performance. Living rooms, extensions and feature elevations benefit most from this configuration. Bowalker Windows installs and replaces these windows with Low-E glazing, argon-filled sealed units, secure frames and clean sightlines, delivering improved insulation, low maintenance and a strong visual connection with the outside without visible hinges or handles interrupting the glazed area.

Double Glazed uPVC Windows

Double Glazed uPVC Windows

Two panes of Low-E glass separated by an argon-filled sealed unit and warm-edge spacer bars allow double glazed uPVC windows to reduce heat loss, minimise condensation and improve acoustic comfort without altering the window's external appearance. Most homes benefit from this combination of reliable energy performance, security and low maintenance. Each window is fitted with multi-chambered uPVC profiles and carefully sealed glazing units, helping improve insulation, reduce draughts and maintain comfortable indoor temperatures throughout the year.

Triple Glazed uPVC Windows
Triple Glazed uPVC Windows

Exposed properties, busy locations and homes where energy efficiency is a priority benefit most from triple glazed uPVC windows, where three panes of Low-E glass are separated by two insulated cavities to reduce heat loss and outside noise without compromising the low-maintenance benefits of uPVC frames. Our in-house installers survey, install and replace these windows with high-performance glazing, durable multi-chambered profiles and secure hardware, creating warmer and quieter interiors with improved year-round comfort.

Obscure Glass uPVC Windows
Obscure Glass uPVC Windows

Bathrooms, entrance halls and ground-floor rooms benefit from obscure glass uPVC windows, where textured privacy glazing limits direct visibility whilst allowing natural daylight to pass freely through the frame. Different privacy levels and patterned finishes allow homeowners to balance light transmission and visibility according to the room's requirements. We install and replace these windows with privacy-rated glazing, secure uPVC frames and reliable seals, creating comfortable private spaces without reducing natural light.

Satin Glass uPVC Windows
Satin Glass uPVC Windows

A smooth acid-etched frosted surface that diffuses daylight evenly whilst limiting direct visibility makes satin glass uPVC windows well suited to bathrooms, hallways, offices and entrance areas where privacy and a refined appearance are priorities. Unlike textured obscure glass, satin glazing provides a consistent finish across the entire surface. Our team installs and replaces these windows with accurately fitted frames, energy-efficient glazing and secure hardware, delivering an understated finish with dependable thermal performance and long-term reliability.

Leaded Glass uPVC Windows
Leaded Glass uPVC Windows

Leaded designs recreate authentic divided-light appearances whilst benefiting from modern sealed glazing technology. By carefully matching lead patterns, specifying secure glazing units and fitting durable profiles, Bowalker installs and replaces these windows whilst preserving traditional appearance and improving energy efficiency, weather resistance and security throughout.

Entrance halls, staircases and period homes where architectural detail is important benefit from stained glass uPVC windows, where coloured decorative glazing sits within a modern low-maintenance frame to create a distinctive focal point. Glazing specification, design requirements and precise fitting are all managed by our team, ensuring each window maintains architectural character whilst improving comfort, security and long-term durability.

Secondary Glazing for uPVC Windows
Secondary Glazing for uPVC Windows

Adding thermal and acoustic performance without replacing an existing window system, secondary glazing for uPVC windows can provide an additional insulation layer where retaining the existing frames is preferred. A discreet internal glazed panel reduces draughts, heat loss and external noise whilst leaving the original windows untouched. Our in-house installers survey and install secondary glazing with careful alignment, improving insulation and acoustic comfort whilst maintaining the existing appearance of the property.

Fixed uPVC Windows

Fixed uPVC Windows

Large non-opening glazed areas that maximise natural light and deliver excellent insulation define fixed uPVC windows, making them well suited to feature elevations, stairwells, extensions and rooms where ventilation is provided by surrounding opening windows. The absence of hinges or handles creates cleaner sightlines and allows a greater glazed area across the frame. We install and replace these windows with multi-chambered profiles, Low-E glazing, secure frames and carefully surveyed openings, creating bright interiors with reliable thermal performance and a clean architectural finish.

Six key benefits of installing uPVC windows include:

upvc-windows

Improves Thermal Efficiency

Multi-chambered uPVC frames and A-rated double or triple glazing reduce heat loss through windows by up to 70%, improve thermal efficiency and help maintain comfortable room temperatures throughout the year.

Reduces External Noise

Well-sealed uPVC frames combined with suitable acoustic glazing options can reduce external noise by 35-40 decibels, improving comfort in homes near roads, railways or busy areas.

Enhances Property Appearance

Modern uPVC windows are available in a wide range of colours, woodgrain foils and architectural profiles, from slim-sightline contemporary frames to heritage sash designs, allowing the replacement to complement a Victorian terrace, a 1930s semi or a modern new build.

Supports Better Home Security

Bowalker installs uPVC windows fitted with multi-point locking systems, internally beaded glazing and PAS 24-compliant hardware, which is available on suitable specifications where required.

Provides Low-Maintenance Durability

Unlike timber frames, which require regular sanding, repainting and resealing, uPVC frames resist rot, warping and corrosion. Quality uPVC profiles can provide 20 to 35 years of reliable performance when correctly installed and maintained.

Increases Property Value

Energy-efficient windows can improve an EPC rating and increase a property's market appeal, with double glazing widely cited by estate agents as one of the most cost-effective improvements a homeowner can make before sale.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

uPVC windows are window systems made from unplasticised polyvinyl chloride, a durable material known for weather resistance, low maintenance and strong thermal performance. They are widely used as an alternative to timber and aluminium windows because uPVC frames resist rotting, warping and corrosion whilst supporting energy-efficient glazing and secure locking systems.

Individual uPVC windows take between 30 minutes and two hours to install, depending on the size, access and replacement requirements. A typical three-bedroom home can often be completed within 1 to 2 days. Our in-house installers complete every installation with careful preparation, accurate fitting and final checks to ensure reliable performance.

Clean uPVC windows using warm water, a small amount of mild washing-up liquid and a soft microfibre cloth, working across the frame, sills and rubber seals to remove dirt and grime. Use a non-abrasive glass cleaner or diluted white vinegar solution for the glazing and avoid bleach, white spirit or solvent-based products that can discolour or degrade the uPVC surface finish. Clearing drainage slots with a soft brush and wiping seals regularly helps maintain smooth operation, weatherproofing and long-term performance.

To choose the right uPVC windows, start by matching the window style to your property’s architecture, as casement windows suit most homes, sash designs complement period properties and flush or heritage profiles work well where traditional character is important. Energy-efficiency requirements, ventilation needs and preferred finish should then guide the glazing and hardware specification. During your consultation, we assess your property and recommend uPVC windows that balance appearance, performance and long-term maintenance requirements.

Period-style sash designs, flat flush frames, projecting bay windows, arched feature elevations and cottage profiles with decorative glazing bars each create a distinct character and represent the most popular uPVC window design directions for UK homes. Woodgrain foils, coloured frames and different opening configurations allow homeowners to achieve either a traditional or contemporary appearance. Matching these choices with doors and existing architectural features helps create a consistent exterior design throughout.

Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying uPVC window installation and replacement work. Our FENSA registration (Reg. 33081) confirms that applicable replacement installations meet current Building Regulations for thermal performance, ventilation and safety. We provide the relevant certification after completion, giving homeowners confidence in the quality of the installation.
