What Are the Benefits of Installing uPVC Windows?

Installing uPVC windows provides improved thermal insulation, reduced outside noise, enhanced property appearance, reliable security, low-maintenance durability and increased property value. Modern uPVC windows use durable multi-chambered frames, energy-efficient glazing and secure locking systems to improve indoor comfort, minimise heat loss and complement both traditional and contemporary property styles.

Improves Thermal Efficiency

Multi-chambered uPVC frames and A-rated double or triple glazing reduce heat loss through windows by up to 70% compared with single-glazed units, helping lower energy bills and maintain consistent room temperatures year-round.

Reduces External Noise

Advanced acoustic glazing and tightly sealed uPVC frames can reduce external noise transmission by 35-40 decibels, making a measurable difference in rooms facing busy roads, flight paths or neighbouring properties, particularly in urban and suburban locations.

Enhances Property Appearance

Modern uPVC windows are available in a wide range of colours, woodgrain foils and architectural profiles, from slim-sightline contemporary frames to heritage sash designs, allowing the replacement to complement a Victorian terrace, a 1930s semi or a modern new build.

Supports Better Home Security

Bowalker installs uPVC windows fitted with multi-point locking systems, internally beaded glazing and PAS 24-compliant hardware as standard, meeting the security requirements recognised by insurers and Secured by Design accreditation, significantly raising resistance to forced entry compared with older frames.

Provides Low-Maintenance Durability

Unlike timber frames, which require regular sanding, repainting and resealing, uPVC frames resist rot, warping and corrosion. A simple wipe-down every three to four months maintains appearance and performance, with quality profiles carrying a service life of 20 to 35 years.

Increases Property Value

Energy-efficient windows can improve an EPC rating and increase a property's market appeal, with double glazing widely cited by estate agents as one of the most cost-effective improvements a homeowner can make before sale.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

uPVC windows are modern window systems manufactured from unplasticised polyvinyl chloride, a rigid and highly durable material known for its strength, weather resistance and low-maintenance properties. They are a popular alternative to timber and aluminium windows because uPVC frames resist warping, rotting and corrosion while delivering high thermal efficiency, reliable insulation and long-lasting everyday performance.

The installation cost of uPVC windows ranges from £280 to £1,400 per window, depending on window size, frame style, glazing type, hardware quality and labour requirements. Small fixed uPVC windows generally fall near the lower end of the price range, while large bay windows, sliding systems or double-glazed custom units increase the overall installation cost.

The most common types of uPVC window glass available include double glazing, triple glazing, toughened glass, laminated glass, frosted glass, acoustic glass and decorative glazing options. Each glass type is designed to enhance specific features such as thermal efficiency, privacy, noise reduction, security or natural light, while complementing modern and traditional uPVC window designs.

uPVC window installation for a full house, such as a 3-bedroom property, usually takes 1 to 2 days, while individual standard uPVC windows take around 30 minutes to 2 hours to install, depending on the window size and fitting requirements. Installation times can also vary based on property access, the number of windows being replaced and any bespoke glazing or frame requirements.

At Bowalker, we provide a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee for all uPVC window installation and replacement services, supporting long-term reliability, installation quality and compliance with professional fitting standards. Every uPVC window installation is completed by our fully in-house installation team and supported by FENSA-registered certification confirming compliance with current Building Regulations for thermal performance, safety and ventilation.

No, you do not need to be home during your uPVC window installation, as long as we have access to the property and your requirements are confirmed beforehand. Our fully in-house uPVC window installers complete all fitting work professionally, ensuring careful handling, property security and installation carried out according to your agreed specifications.

The cost to replace uPVC windows ranges from £450 to £3,000+ per window, depending on window size, glazing type, frame style, installation complexity and any structural modifications required during replacement. Small standard replacement windows generally fall near the lower end of the range, while large custom-designed, triple-glazed or bay-style uPVC windows can exceed £3,000.

Maintenance tips for uPVC windows include cleaning the frames every 3 to 4 months with warm soapy water or non-abrasive cleaners, lubricating hinges and locking systems annually, and keeping drainage holes clear of dirt and debris. Homeowners should also avoid harsh chemicals, bleach and acidic cleaning products, as these materials can damage window seals, affect frame performance and cause uPVC discolouration over time.
