What Our Happy Customers Say
Excellent service from a local independent company. Highly recommend.
Read moreI had replacement windows installed. Design and advice was good and cost was competitive. Installation was started in a good time to a good standard.
Read moreBowalker have been incredibly helpful and provided me with extremely useful information about the windows and doors at a property I moved into, previously supplied by them. Great customer service, really recommend
Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are Leaded Windows?
Leaded windows feature small sections of glass joined together using H-shaped lead strips called lead cames and are also known as leadlights. Commonly designed in diamond or square patterns, these windows are widely used in cottages, period homes and traditional properties to provide a classic decorative appearance, reliable structural support and improved privacy whilst maintaining natural light.
How Much Does Leaded Window Installation Cost?
Leaded window installation (labour only) costs from £100 to £375+ per window, depending on window size, lead pattern design, glazing type, frame material and installation complexity. This covers the fitting of a new or supplied window unit.
How Much Does It Cost to Replace Leaded Windows?
Full leaded window replacement (supply and fit) costs between £500 and £3,000 per window, depending on window size, lead pattern design, glazing type, frame material and replacement complexity. This price includes the window unit, all materials and installation. Custom leaded designs, decorative glass options and full frame replacements can increase the overall cost.
How Long Does Leaded Window Installation Take?
Installing three leaded windows will typically take a team of two experienced installers one day. Standard leaded glass replacements take only a few hours, whilst larger or more decorative installations require additional time depending on the lead pattern complexity, frame replacement requirements, property access and glazing specifications.
What Guarantee Do You Provide on Leaded Window Installation?
Bowalker Windows Limited provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on every leaded window installation, helping homeowners receive long-lasting performance and reliable workmanship. All leaded window installations also comply with FENSA standards (Reg: 33081), ensuring every fitting meets professional requirements for safety, glazing performance, thermal efficiency and structural reliability.
Do I Need to Be at Home During the Installation?
No, you do not need to be at home for the leaded window installation, provided we have access to the property and your installation preferences are confirmed in advance. Our experienced in-house leaded window installation team completes every fitting professionally, ensuring careful handling, property security and installation completed according to your agreed specifications.
Do I Need Planning Permission for Leaded Windows?
In most cases, replacing like-for-like windows does not require planning permission under permitted development rights. However, if your property is a listed building or sits within a conservation area, you may need consent before making changes to your windows. Our team can advise you during your free consultation, and we ensure all installations comply with current building regulations and FENSA requirements.
What Are the Maintenance Tips for Leaded Windows?
The maintenance tips for leaded windows include cleaning the glass with pH-neutral solutions, inspecting the window for structural issues or damaged lead cames and addressing natural oxidation to maintain long-term appearance and durability. Regular checks on glazing seals, frames and locking systems also help support thermal performance, security and reliable operation. Silicone spray should be used on the hinges and in the lock to keep everything working well.
