Types Of Windows We Install
Leaded Glass Sash Windows
Leaded Glass Sash Windows
Leaded glass works especially well within traditional vertical sliding sash windows, where decorative lead cames can be introduced into the upper sash or a fanlight above without disrupting the clear view through the lower pane. This approach suits Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian properties, where period-appropriate glazing patterns help preserve architectural character. Bowalker combines these decorative lead designs with modern insulated glazing units, secure balance mechanisms and multipoint locking, delivering authentic sash proportions alongside improved thermal performance and everyday reliability.

Leaded Glass Flush Windows
Sitting level within the frame for a clean exterior profile, leaded glass flush windows combine decorative lead detailing with understated proportions suited to period homes, cottages and heritage-style properties. Accurate pattern alignment across the glazing helps create a balanced appearance, particularly where several windows are visible across the same elevation. Our in-house installers install and replace leaded glass flush windows with carefully positioned lead patterns, energy-efficient sealed units and secure multipoint locking in uPVC and timber frames.
Learn More →Period-appropriate profiles combined with carefully selected leadwork allow leaded glass heritage windows to complement listed buildings, conservation areas and period homes where preserving architectural character is important, subject to relevant planning or listed-building requirements where applicable. Lead patterns can be selected to complement existing windows and maintain visual consistency across the property. Bowalker installs and replaces leaded glass heritage windows with sympathetic frames, carefully matched lead layouts and energy-efficient sealed units, helping preserve traditional appearance whilst improving everyday comfort.
Learn More →Commonly found on Victorian and Edwardian properties, bay windows can gain additional traditional character from decorative leaded glazing, particularly where patterns continue across the central and angled sections of the bay. Maintaining consistent lead alignment across adjoining panes requires accurate surveying and installation to create a balanced exterior appearance. We install and replace leaded glass bay windows with carefully aligned patterns, secure frames and energy-efficient sealed units in uPVC and timber.
Learn More →Combining a distinctive curved profile with decorative leadwork, leaded glass arched windows suit entrance areas, period properties and feature elevations where the glazing forms an important architectural detail. Lead patterns can be designed to complement the shape and proportions of the curved opening, creating a balanced decorative appearance. Our in-house installers install and replace leaded glass arched windows with accurately positioned lead detailing, secure glazing systems and precisely shaped frames.
Learn More →Diamond and square lead patterns are traditional choices for cottage windows, creating decorative divided-light styling that complements cottages, farmhouses and character properties. Carefully proportioned leadwork can reinforce traditional architectural detailing whilst modern sealed glazing provides improved thermal performance and weather resistance. To suit the character of each property, we install and replace leaded glass cottage windows with energy-efficient sealed units, secure hardware and sympathetic engineered timber or woodgrain uPVC frame options.
Learn More →Replicating or complementing existing decorative glazing to maintain architectural character and visual continuity, leaded glass historic windows suit period renovations where closely matched leadwork and sympathetic frame profiles are essential. Where original windows or lead patterns remain, these can help inform the proportions and layout of replacement glazing, subject to relevant heritage and planning requirements. Following a careful survey and measurement of the property, Bowalker installs and replaces leaded glass historic windows with carefully matched layouts, sympathetic frames and energy-efficient sealed units, improving performance whilst maintaining a traditional appearance.
Learn More →Large fixed glazed areas combined with decorative lead patterns create prominent feature windows suited to entrance elevations, stairwells and living spaces where natural light and architectural detailing are priorities. With no opening sash or operating hardware interrupting the glazed area, fixed picture windows can accommodate larger or more elaborate lead layouts where the glazing specification allows. We install and replace leaded glass picture windows with accurately positioned lead patterns, secure structural frames and energy-efficient sealed units.
Learn More →Where strong geometric detailing is the defining aesthetic, leaded glass Crittall-style windows use carefully proportioned glazing sections and decorative lead detailing to create a structured, steel-inspired appearance. Suitable for contemporary extensions, period renovations and character properties, the grid-style design can be recreated using Bowalker's available uPVC or timber window systems where the selected specification allows. Our in-house installers install and replace these windows with carefully aligned lead patterns, secure hardware and energy-efficient sealed glazing, creating distinctive geometric character without introducing an aluminium frame option.
Learn More →Leaded Glass uPVC Windows
Leaded Glass uPVC Windows
Low-maintenance construction, strong thermal performance and a wide choice of finishes make uPVC a practical frame material for leaded glass windows across traditional and contemporary properties. Multi-chambered profiles can be combined with energy-efficient sealed units and secure multipoint locking whilst providing a consistent frame for accurately positioned decorative leadwork. We install and replace leaded glass uPVC windows with carefully aligned lead patterns and a choice of colours and woodgrain foil finishes, combining traditional detailing with straightforward maintenance and reliable performance.
Learn More →Leaded Glass Timber Windows
Leaded Glass Timber Windows
Natural character and traditional detailing make timber particularly suitable for leaded glass windows in cottages, period properties and heritage-style homes. Engineered timber can improve dimensional stability compared with traditional solid timber whilst retaining the appearance associated with period joinery, and decorative lead patterns can be selected to complement the frame proportions and surrounding architecture. We install and replace leaded glass timber windows with energy-efficient sealed units, durable microporous paint or stain finishes, robust hardware and carefully positioned leadwork.
Learn More →Leaded Glass Fixed Windows
Leaded Glass Fixed Windows
Non-opening by design, fixed leaded glass windows provide an uninterrupted glazed surface suited to entrance areas, stairwells and feature elevations where diamond, square or bespoke lead layouts create a decorative focal point. With no opening sash or operating hardware, fixed units can support strong sealing and thermal performance when correctly specified and installed. Each installation is completed with accurately aligned lead patterns, secure structural frames and energy-efficient sealed units for a durable and distinctive decorative feature.
Learn More →Combining practical side-hung or top-hung opening sections with decorative lead patterns, leaded glass casement windows suit cottages, period properties and traditionally styled homes where ventilation and decorative glazing are both important. Careful planning at the survey stage helps maintain lead pattern alignment across fixed and opening sections when the window is closed. Our in-house installers install and replace leaded glass casement windows with secure multipoint locking, durable weather seals, energy-efficient glazing and carefully aligned leadwork.
Learn More →Two opening functions within a single frame allow leaded glass tilt and turn windows to tilt inwards at the top for controlled ventilation or open fully inwards for greater airflow and easier cleaning. Decorative lead patterns can be configured around the sash proportions to retain a balanced appearance when the window is closed. Our in-house installers install and replace leaded glass tilt and turn windows with secure multipoint locking hardware, energy-efficient sealed units and precisely positioned lead detailing.
Learn More →Traditional vertical sliding operation combined with decorative leadwork makes leaded glass vertical sliding windows particularly suitable for period and heritage-style properties where window proportions and glazing details contribute to the overall character. Diamond, square and other traditional lead patterns can be specified to complement the proportions and architectural appearance of the window. Bowalker installs and replaces leaded glass vertical sliding windows with reliable balance systems, secure locking hardware and carefully aligned leadwork within energy-efficient sealed units.
Learn More →Where wider openings and decorative glazing are both required, leaded glass bifold windows use multiple folding panels to create spans that no single casement could achieve whilst retaining decorative glazing detail when closed. Lead patterns can be coordinated across individual panels to create a consistent appearance across the full width of the opening, subject to the glazing, panel and hardware specification. Our team installs and replaces leaded glass bifold windows with precision-engineered timber frames, secure locking hardware, energy-efficient sealed units and carefully aligned decorative leadwork.

Arrived when they said they would, were very polite, respectful and pleasant people. Found answers to questions we didn’t realise about the installation and though we haven’t yet finished the project the windows are a very exciting and big step forward for us. Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are Leaded Windows?
Leaded windows feature decorative glass patterns formed using lead strips, commonly arranged in diamond, square, Georgian or other traditional designs. Traditional leadlights use individual pieces of glass joined by lead cames, whilst modern leaded windows can recreate the appearance within energy-efficient glazed units. They are commonly installed in cottages, Victorian and Edwardian homes and other properties where decorative glazing contributes to architectural character.
How Long Does Leaded Window Installation Take?
Installing three leaded windows will take a team of two experienced installers one day. Standard leaded glass replacements take only a few hours, whilst larger or more decorative installations require additional time depending on the window size, lead pattern complexity, frame replacement requirements, property access and glazing specifications. Our in-house installers carefully align the decorative detailing before checking the glazing, seals and operation of each window.
How Do You Clean Leaded Windows?
Clean leaded windows using warm water, mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth, wiping the glass and decorative leadwork gently without excessive pressure. Use a soft brush or cotton bud around joints and recessed areas where dirt can collect. Avoid abrasive pads, pressure washers and harsh or solvent-based chemicals that could affect the leadwork, glazing seals or frame finish. Rinse with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth.
How Do You Choose the Right Leaded Windows for Your Home?
Choose the right leaded windows by considering your property’s architectural period, existing glazing patterns, frame material, window style and preferred level of decorative detail. Diamond patterns work particularly well with cottages and traditional homes, whilst square or Georgian-style layouts can complement Victorian, Edwardian and heritage properties. During your consultation, we assess the property and recommend a leaded window design that balances architectural character, natural light, privacy and modern glazing performance.
What Leaded Window Design Ideas Should You Consider for Your Home?
Consider leaded window design ideas such as diamond patterns for cottage-style properties, square grids for traditional homes, Georgian-inspired layouts for period properties and decorative feature glazing for entrances or stairwells. These patterns can be combined with clear, obscure or coloured glass and uPVC or timber frames to complement the property’s architecture. Repeating the same lead pattern across adjoining windows, bays or front elevations can create a consistent exterior appearance.
What Guarantee Do You Provide on Leaded Window Installation?
Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying leaded window installation and replacement work. Our FENSA registration (Reg. 33081) applies to qualifying replacement window installations completed under the scheme, with the FENSA certificate providing evidence of compliance with applicable Building Regulations and registration with the local authority.
