Found answers to questions we didn’t realise about the installation and though we haven’t yet finished the project the windows are a very exciting and big step forward for us. Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Planning Permission to Replace Windows or Doors in Tonbridge?
No, for most standard residential properties in Tonbridge, planning permission is not required to replace windows or doors if the new units are like-for-like or similar in style and appearance. Permission is required if the property is a listed building, located in a conservation area or subject to an Article 4 Direction, is a flat or maisonette, or if you are creating new or significantly larger openings. All replacement windows and doors must comply with UK Building Regulations, covering safety glazing, thermal efficiency, and ventilation, and Bowalker Windows Limited is FENSA registered (Reg: 33081), which means we can self-certify compliance and provide the necessary certification. If your property falls into any of the exception categories, we recommend confirming the specific requirements before starting your project with a windows and door specialist Tonbridge.
Are There Conservation Area or Article 4 Restrictions for Replacement Windows and Doors in Tonbridge?
We advise on and install windows and doors that comply with conservation area and Article 4 requirements in Tonbridge.
Which Window Styles Are Best Suited to Homes in Tonbridge?
The best window styles for Tonbridge homes combine period charm with high thermal efficiency, making flush sash and sliding sash windows ideal for Victorian and Georgian properties by preserving a traditional look with modern double or triple glazing. Casement windows suit both period and modern homes, offering side- or top-hinged outward opening vents, high energy ratings, and low maintenance. Bay and bow windows add architectural character, expand interior space, and maximise natural light, while tilt and turn windows are well-suited for family homes or upper floors thanks to their dual-function mechanism for safe ventilation and easy cleaning. Bowalker Windows Limited supplies and installs all these styles as a windows and door specialist Tonbridge – see our full range and request advice for your property at Bowalker Windows Limited.
Which Door Types Are Best Suited to Homes in Tonbridge?
Composite doors, uPVC doors, timber doors, and aluminium doors are all suitable for Tonbridge homes, depending on your property’s style and requirements.
Which Rooflight Types Are Suitable for Homes and Extensions in Tonbridge?
We supply and install fixed rooflights, opening rooflights, roof lanterns, and walk-on-glass rooflights for homes and extensions in Tonbridge.
When Should Roofline Products Be Replaced on a Tonbridge Home?
Roofline products on a Tonbridge home should be replaced when certain visible or persistent issues appear that threaten the property’s protection and appearance.
- Rot or decay in fascias or soffits
- Leaking or overflowing guttering
- Sagging or detached roofline sections
- Persistent damp or staining on exterior walls
If you notice any of these signs, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends arranging a professional assessment from a windows and door specialist Tonbridge to confirm the need for replacement and prevent further damage.

How Should You Maintain Replacement Windows in Tonbridge?
Five key maintenance steps keep replacement windows from Bowalker Windows Limited performing well as a windows and door specialist Tonbridge. Each step targets a specific part of the window to protect against weather damage and extend its lifespan.
- Clean frames and glass regularly: Use warm water and mild soap on uPVC, aluminium, or timber frames, and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads. This prevents dirt buildup and keeps the glass clear for better light and appearance.
- Lubricate hardware annually: Apply a light spray oil or silicone lubricant to hinges, handles, locks, and tracks once a year. This keeps moving parts operating smoothly and reduces the risk of sticking or draughts.
- Clear drainage slots: Check and clear the weep holes at the bottom of the frames to allow rainwater to drain away. Blocked drainage can lead to water pooling and potential frame or wall damage.
- Inspect seals and gaskets: Examine the rubber seals and gaskets around the glass and frame for signs of wear, cracking, or gaps. Replace any damaged seals to maintain energy efficiency and prevent water ingress.
- Check for condensation and damage: Look for condensation between glazing panes or visible damage to the frame or glass. Early detection allows for prompt repairs, helping to avoid more costly issues later.
How Should You Maintain New Doors in Tonbridge?
- Clean door surfaces regularly using a soft cloth and mild detergent to remove dirt and prevent buildup that can affect finishes and moving parts.
- Lubricate hinges, locks, and handles with a suitable product to maintain smooth operation and reduce wear on high security hardware.
- Check weather seals and gaskets for gaps or damage, as intact seals help maintain energy efficiency and weather resistance in Tonbridge properties.
- Inspect for signs of impact, warping, or moisture around the frame and threshold to address issues before they affect door alignment or security.
Routine attention to these areas helps your new doors from Bowalker Windows Limited continue to perform as intended and maintain their appearance over time.
How Should You Maintain Rooflights in Tonbridge?
Clean the glass and frames, check seals, clear drainage channels, and inspect for leaks or condensation to keep your rooflights in good condition.
When maintenance is no longer sufficient and replacement becomes necessary, it’s important to understand the process and requirements for fitting a new rooflight.
Can an Existing Rooflight Be Replaced Without Changing the Roof Opening?
Yes, an existing rooflight can often be replaced without altering the roof opening if the new rooflight matches the original size and meets the structural requirements. This keeps the roof’s structure intact and may reduce installation time, but the replacement must comply with current building regulations and weatherproofing standards. For windows and door specialist Tonbridge projects, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends consulting a certified specialist – such as our Fensa Reg: 33081 and Plastic Window Federation accredited team – to confirm compatibility and ensure the right fit for your property.
To help your installation go smoothly, there are a few simple steps you can take to prepare your home before our team arrives.
How Should You Prepare for Your Tonbridge Windows and Door Specialist's Visit?
- Clear access to all windows and doors being serviced by moving furniture, curtains, and any obstructions away from the work areas. This allows our specialist to work efficiently and reduces the risk of accidental damage, helping us deliver a precise fitting for your new or replacement windows and doors.
- Remove valuables and fragile items near the installation zones, such as ornaments, picture frames, or electronics. Protecting these items prevents accidental knocks or dust exposure, so your property remains secure and undisturbed during the visit.
- Secure pets and inform household members of the scheduled visit. Keeping pets in a separate room and letting everyone know about the work helps avoid interruptions and keeps both your household and our team safe throughout the process.
