Arrived when they said they would, were very polite, respectful and pleasant people. Found answers to questions we didn’t realise about the installation and though we haven’t yet finished the project the windows are a very exciting and big step forward for us. Would recommend this company and this team without hesitation. Thank you!

Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Planning Permission to Replace Windows or Doors in Haywards Heath?
No, most like-for-like window and door replacements in Haywards Heath do not require planning permission. However, restrictions may apply to listed buildings, conservation areas, properties affected by Article 4 directions, flats, maisonettes or major alterations. All replacements must meet UK Building Regulations covering insulation, safety glazing and ventilation. FENSA-registered installers such as Bowalker can self-certify eligible installations. Check with Mid Sussex District Council before starting work.
Are There Conservation Area or Article 4 Restrictions for Replacement Windows and Doors in Haywards Heath?
Yes, replacement windows and doors in Haywards Heath are subject to Conservation Area and Article 4 restrictions set by Mid Sussex District Council, which oversees six Conservation Areas: Muster Green, The Heath, Lucastes, Franklands Village, Lewes Road, and Mill Hill Close. For properties in these areas, like-for-like timber window or door replacements may be allowed under Permitted Development, but changing materials – such as switching from timber to uPVC – or altering the appearance typically requires a formal planning application, especially where Article 4 Directions apply or if the property is listed. As a windows and door specialist in Haywards Heath, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends checking with Mid Sussex District Council for the specific planning requirements that apply to your property before starting any replacement work.
Which Window Styles Are Best Suited to Homes in Haywards Heath?
The best window style for Haywards Heath homes depends on the property’s age, architectural character, ventilation needs and desired appearance. Sash and heritage windows generally suit Victorian and Edwardian properties, while casement and flush windows work well in modern homes, cottages and traditional properties.
- Casement Windows: Suitable for modern and traditional homes, offering practical ventilation, easy operation and versatile designs.
- Sash Windows: Ideal for Victorian and Edwardian homes, maintaining traditional proportions while supporting modern double glazing.
- Flush Windows: Well suited to cottages, period properties and newer homes seeking a clean, understated appearance.
- Heritage Windows: Designed to preserve historic architectural details and traditional proportions, particularly where conservation considerations apply.
Bowalker Windows Limited offers window installation and replacement services in Haywards Heath, helping homeowners choose suitable styles and materials for their properties.
Which Door Types Are Best Suited to Homes in Haywards Heath?
The best door type for Haywards Heath homes depends on the property’s architectural style, security needs, insulation requirements and available space. Composite and uPVC doors suit traditional and modern entrances, while aluminium bifold and French doors work well for extensions, patios and garden access.
- Composite Entrance Doors: Suitable for period and modern homes, providing strong security, thermal insulation and a range of traditional or contemporary designs.
- uPVC Doors: Ideal for homeowners seeking durable, weather-resistant, low-maintenance doors with good thermal performance.
- Aluminium Bifold Doors: Well suited to modern extensions, creating wide openings, maximising natural light and connecting indoor spaces with gardens.
- French Doors: Suitable for traditional and contemporary properties, offering a classic appearance, natural light and convenient garden access.
Bowalker Windows Limited provides professional door installation and replacement services tailored to the style and practical needs of Haywards Heath properties.
Which Rooflight Types Are Suitable for Homes and Extensions in Haywards Heath?
The best rooflight type for Haywards Heath homes depends on roof design, available space, natural lighting needs and ventilation requirements. Fixed and opening rooflights suit various rooms and extensions, while roof lanterns and walk-on glass options serve larger spaces or accessible roof areas.
- Fixed Rooflights: Suitable for flat or pitched roofs, bringing natural daylight into kitchens, extensions and living spaces where ventilation is unnecessary.
- Roof Lanterns: Ideal for larger flat-roof extensions, creating an architectural feature while increasing natural light and the sense of space.
- Walk-On Glass Rooflights: Designed for suitable roof terraces and accessible flat-roof areas, allowing foot traffic while bringing daylight into rooms below.
- Opening Rooflights: Suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and loft conversions, providing natural daylight and ventilation to improve indoor comfort.
Bowalker Windows Limited provides rooflight installation and replacement services for traditional and modern properties across Haywards Heath.
When Should Roofline Products Be Replaced on a Haywards Heath Home?
Roofline products, including fascias, soffits, bargeboards and guttering, should be replaced when ageing, weather damage or poor maintenance affects their condition. Timber roofline systems may last around 20–25 years, although their actual lifespan depends on maintenance and exposure to weather. Common signs that replacement is needed include:
- Rotting or Flaking Timber: Decaying fascias, soffits or bargeboards indicate moisture damage and deterioration.
- Cracked or Sagging Guttering: Damaged gutters may cause rainwater overflow and water damage around the property.
- Peeling Paint: Flaking or peeling finishes may expose timber roofline components to moisture and decay.
- Damp Patches: Water stains on walls or near roof edges may indicate leaking gutters or damaged roofline components.
- Pest Entry: Gaps around the eaves may allow birds, insects or other pests into the roof space.
Upgrading to uPVC roofline products offers Haywards Heath homeowners better weather resistance and lower maintenance, without regular sanding or repainting. During replacement, adequate eaves ventilation should be maintained to help prevent loft condensation and meet applicable Building Regulations requirements.
What Guarantee Applies to Bowalker Installations in Haywards Heath?

Contact Bowalker to confirm the coverage applicable to your installation.

- Clean Ventilation Filters: Inspect and clean accessible air filters on opening rooflights, including compatible VELUX models, following manufacturer instructions.
- Check Opening Mechanisms: Test handles, controls and ventilation functions periodically to ensure the rooflight operates correctly.
Follow manufacturer-specific maintenance guidance and arrange professional assessment if you notice persistent leaks, misted glazing or damaged seals. Avoid accessing roof areas or external glazing without suitable safety equipment.
Can an Existing Rooflight Be Replaced Without Changing the Roof Opening?
Yes, an existing rooflight can usually be replaced without changing the roof opening, provided a compatible replacement unit matches the existing dimensions and fitting requirements. Like-for-like replacements generally avoid major structural alterations and may be completed within a few hours, depending on roof conditions and accessibility. Planning permission is not normally required, but the replacement must meet applicable UK Building Regulations, including thermal efficiency standards. Bowalker Windows Limited can assess your existing rooflight, use its identification plate to identify a suitable replacement and advise on preparing the surrounding area for installation.
