Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

No, planning permission is not generally required for window or door replacement in Twickenham unless the property is listed, located within a conservation area, or subject to specific local restrictions. For most standard properties, replacing existing windows or doors with similar designs and materials – such as double glazed units or modern upvc windows – does not trigger a planning requirement, but exceptions apply if the building is protected or if Article 4 Directions are in place. Richmond upon Thames Borough Council sets the local planning rules, so it is important to check whether your property falls under any special designations before starting work. If you are unsure, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends confirming with the council or consulting a windows and door specialist Twickenham for tailored advice.

This is especially relevant if your property is located within a conservation area or is subject to an Article 4 Direction, where stricter controls are enforced.

Yes, conservation area and Article 4 restrictions may apply to replacement windows and doors in Twickenham, affecting the options available for style, material, and installation. These restrictions typically require homeowners to match the original appearance of windows and doors, often specifying traditional designs, timber or similar materials, and certain colours to preserve the character of the area. Planning consent is usually needed before making changes, and the use of modern materials like uPVC windows or double glazing may be limited or require special approval. To avoid delays or compliance issues, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends that you consult Richmond upon Thames Borough Council or a qualified windows and door specialist Twickenham before starting any replacement project.

With these considerations in mind, several window styles are available that can meet both aesthetic and regulatory requirements in Twickenham.

  • Sliding sash windows: Preserve original proportions and provide double-glazed insulation for Victorian and Edwardian homes.
  • Casement windows: Versatile and customisable in timber or uPVC for both traditional and new builds.
  • Slimline aluminium windows: Minimal framing and maximum light for contemporary properties or extensions.
  • Bow or bay windows: Expand space and match the historic look of period bay-fronted terraces.

Yes, there are door types that are particularly well suited to homes in Twickenham. Composite doors offer a secure and low-maintenance option that suits both traditional and modern properties, combining a timber-look finish with a durable core. Solid timber doors are ideal for period homes, providing an authentic appearance that complements Victorian or Edwardian architecture. Bi-folding or sliding aluminium doors work well for garden-facing spaces and modern extensions, creating wide openings and a slim, modern profile. Steel-look doors add a contemporary edge and suit properties seeking a distinctive architectural feature. For the best result, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends choosing a door that fits both the character of your home and your daily requirements as your windows and door specialist Twickenham.

Just as the right door enhances your home’s character and functionality, selecting the appropriate rooflight can transform your living space with natural light and style.

Yes, several rooflight types are suitable for homes and extensions in Twickenham when selected to match property style, planning requirements, and the amount of natural light you want to achieve. Fixed rooflights are ideal for flat roofs where maximum daylight is needed without ventilation, while opening rooflights suit spaces that benefit from both light and airflow, such as kitchens or bathrooms. Roof lanterns work well for period or modern extensions, adding height and a focal point to living areas, and walk-on-glass rooflights are designed for terraces or flat roofs where foot traffic is expected, providing both durability and light below. We recommend that you check local planning rules and select rooflights that fit your property’s design and functional needs; as a windows and door specialist Twickenham, we can advise on the right option for your project.

Yes, roofline products should be replaced on a Twickenham home when visible signs of deterioration appear, such as timber rot and decay, persistent peeling or flaking paint, leaking or overflowing gutters, blocked ventilation causing condensation, or when the materials are simply reaching the end of their lifespan. Timber rot and decay often result from moisture exposure, weakening fascias and soffits so they can no longer support guttering securely. Peeling paint or flaking on wooden elements signals that frequent repainting is needed, which modern uPVC alternatives eliminate. Leaking or sagging gutters, or water spilling down exterior walls, usually indicate that the underlying fascia board is compromised. Blocked ventilation in soffits can trap moisture in the roof void, leading to dampness and further timber decay inside the loft. If your roofline is made from older timber or cast-iron systems, an inspection by a windows and door specialist Twickenham is recommended, with replacement in durable uPVC or composite materials providing a long-term solution.

Every installation by Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist in Twickenham includes a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee covering both products and workmanship, with free replacement of any defective parts or double-glazed units that develop condensation between the panes. Hardware and electrical components are protected for 1 year, while supply-only orders receive a 1-year product manufacturing guarantee that does not include installation or FENSA certification. If you sell your property, the installation guarantee is transferable to the new owner by notifying Bowalker within one month of the sale, providing the original contract and guarantee certificate, and paying a £25 administration fee. Our FENSA registration (33081) confirms compliance with industry standards, and we recommend confirming all guarantee terms at the time of purchase for your Twickenham project.

Regular maintenance keeps replacement windows from Bowalker Windows Limited performing well and looking their best. Four key steps help maintain the condition and function of your replacement windows in Twickenham:

  • Clean frames and glass with a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth every few months to remove dirt and prevent surface damage.
  • Check and lubricate moving parts such as hinges and handles twice a year using a light, non-greasy lubricant to keep them operating smoothly.
  • Inspect seals and gaskets for signs of wear, gaps, or damage during seasonal changes, as these can affect weather resistance and energy efficiency.
  • Clear drainage channels at the base of the window regularly to prevent water build-up and avoid potential leaks or damp issues.

If you notice any issues during maintenance or need professional support, contact Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Twickenham for advice or service.

To maintain new doors in Twickenham, follow these steps for long-term performance and appearance:

  • Clean door surfaces with a soft cloth and suitable cleaning products every few weeks to remove dust and prevent buildup that can dull finishes.
  • Check and lubricate hinges and locks at least twice a year to keep movement smooth and maintain high security, using a light oil or silicone spray on moving parts.
  • Inspect weather seals for signs of wear or damage during seasonal changes, as intact seals help maintain energy efficiency and weather resistance.
  • Address minor scuffs or marks promptly with appropriate cleaning or touch-up products to keep the door looking new.
  • If any issues persist or you notice difficulty with operation, arrange professional servicing from Bowalker Windows Limited to keep your new doors in Twickenham working as intended.

Regular maintenance by Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Twickenham keeps rooflights in excellent working order and protects against local weather exposure. We recommend a clear process for maintaining rooflights to support long-term performance and security.

  • Clean the glass and frames using non-abrasive products, removing dirt and debris without scratching the surface or damaging high quality finishes.
  • Check and clear all drainage channels to prevent water build-up, which is especially important for upvc windows and rooflights exposed to heavy rainfall.
  • Inspect seals and gaskets for signs of wear or gaps, as these components are critical for weather resistance and thermal efficiency.
  • Test all locking and opening mechanisms to confirm smooth operation and maintain high security standards for your property.

If you notice any issues during these checks, we advise arranging a professional inspection with Bowalker Windows Limited. For installation or replacement guidance, contact our team for expert advice.

Yes, an existing rooflight may be replaced with a new unit of the same size without altering the roof opening. For a like-for-like replacement, we order a rooflight that matches the exact dimensions of your current unit, fit it into the existing frame, install a new flashing kit to maintain weather resistance, and complete the process without any structural changes to the roof. This method typically takes around 4 hours and avoids major disruption, making it suitable for most standard rooflight replacements handled by Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Twickenham.

To ensure your rooflight replacement or any other window and door service goes smoothly, there are a few steps you can take to prepare your home before our specialists arrive.

  • Clear access to all windows, doors, and rooflights by moving furniture, curtains, or blinds so our specialist can inspect each area without obstruction.
  • Secure pets and valuables in a separate room to maintain safety and prevent distractions during the assessment.
  • Prepare any questions or concerns about high quality, upvc windows, or high security features you want to discuss, so we can address your specific needs and preferences.
  • Review any documentation or previous quotes related to your property’s windows and doors, as this helps us provide accurate recommendations and compare options.
