Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Planning Permission to Replace Windows or Doors in Pulborough?
Like-for-like replacement of windows or doors in standard homes in Pulborough generally does not require planning permission, unless the property is in a conservation area, is a listed building, is a flat or maisonette, or you are planning significant changes to the design, size, or materials. Pulborough falls under Horsham District Council and, in some cases, the South Downs National Park Authority, so local rules may apply for certain properties or locations. All window and door replacements must comply with UK Building Regulations, which are self-certified by a FENSA (Reg: 33081) or Certass registered installer such as Bowalker Windows Limited. If you are unsure about your property’s status or the scope of your project, we recommend checking with the local planning authority or contacting a windows and door specialist Pulborough for tailored advice.
This is especially important for homeowners in designated conservation areas, where stricter regulations and additional permissions may apply.
Are There Conservation Area or Article 4 Restrictions for Replacement Windows and Doors in Pulborough?
Yes, replacement windows and doors in Pulborough are subject to conservation area and Article 4 restrictions if the property is within the Church Place or Lower Street conservation areas managed by Horsham District Council. Planning permission may be required when changes affect the character or appearance of the property or area, and Article 4 Directions can remove permitted development rights, meaning even like-for-like timber replacements might need approval. For listed buildings, both Listed Building Consent and planning permission are necessary, with a strong preference for traditional timber materials over uPVC or aluminium.
Which Window Styles Are Best Suited to Homes in Pulborough?
Yes, the best window styles for homes in Pulborough are those that reflect the property’s architectural character and comply with local requirements, with high quality uPVC windows, casement windows, and double glazed units being especially well suited. These options offer strong energy efficiency, high security, and weather resistance, making them practical for both period and modern properties in the area. Where conservation area guidelines apply, we recommend window styles that maintain the original appearance while delivering the benefits of modern materials and double glazing; as a windows and door specialist Pulborough, Bowalker Windows Limited provides expert advice and installation tailored to your property – learn more at https://www.bowalker.co.uk/.
Just as window selection should respect both style and regulations, choosing the right doors for Pulborough homes also involves balancing aesthetics, durability, and compliance with local guidelines.
Which Door Types Are Best Suited to Homes in Pulborough?
The best door types for homes in Pulborough depend on the property’s age, architectural style, and the need to handle local weather conditions. For historic cottages, composite stable doors and timber-effect flush track doors offer a traditional look with modern insulation and low maintenance, while Victorian and Georgian homes benefit from composite front doors with sidelights and classic French doors that match period features and maximise light. Modern homes and extensions are well matched with aluminium bi-fold or sliding patio doors and contemporary flush aluminium front doors, which provide slim frames, robust weather resistance, and a minimalist finish. Composite doors typically last around 35 years with minimal upkeep, aluminium doors exceed 45 years and require little maintenance, uPVC doors last about 30 years and are highly weatherproof and energy-efficient, and solid timber doors, while needing regular repainting or sanding, are required for listed buildings and strict conservation areas to preserve historic character. As a windows and door specialist Pulborough, Bowalker Windows Limited helps you select the right material and style to suit your property and meet any conservation requirements.
Which Rooflight Types Are Suitable for Homes and Extensions in Pulborough?
Yes, the right rooflight for homes and extensions in Pulborough depends on both the architectural style and whether the roof is flat or pitched. For flat roofs, suitable options include flat glass rooflights with a frameless or flush finish, roof lanterns and pyramids in slimline aluminium or uPVC, and walk-on rooflights for areas like terraces. For pitched roofs, pitched roof windows in the Velux style, conservation rooflights, and models from leading manufacturers are recommended, especially where blending with traditional rooflines or meeting conservation requirements is important. Key features to consider across all types are fixed or opening units (manual, electric, or solar), and solar control glazing for improved comfort. For the best fit and performance, consult a windows and door specialist Pulborough who can match the rooflight type and features to your property’s needs.
When Should Roofline Products Be Replaced on a Pulborough Home?
Roofline products such as fascias, soffits, and guttering on a Pulborough home should be replaced when they reach the end of their typical lifespan – 15 to 25 years for timber and 25 to 30+ years for uPVC – or sooner if you notice signs like rotting or damp timber, cracked or sagging gutters, flaking or peeling paint, pest or bird intrusion, or internal dampness and loft condensation. These issues indicate that the roofline is no longer providing effective weather resistance or structural support, and delaying replacement can lead to further property damage. Full replacement is usually recommended over capping, as this allows us to inspect and repair any underlying problems and address older materials that may be present, while many homeowners choose to coordinate roofline work with window and door upgrades for a complete weatherproofing solution. We recommend checking the material and age of your current roofline and monitoring for these warning signs to maintain the condition of your property; as your windows and door specialist Pulborough, we can advise on the best approach for your home.
When considering such important upgrades, it’s natural to wonder what kind of protection and guarantees come with your new windows and doors.
What Guarantee Applies to Bowalker Installations in Pulborough?
Yes, every windows and door specialist Pulborough installation by Bowalker Windows Limited includes a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee and is registered under FENSA Registration No. 33081. Our guarantee tiers cover a range of needs: the Silver tier provides 10 years on frames, 5 years on glazed units, and 1 year on hardware and fitting; the Gold tier extends to 10 years on both frames and glazed units, 2 years on hardware and fitting, and 1 year of accidental or hardware cover; the Platinum tier offers 15 years on frames with bi-annual maintenance, 10 years on glazed units and fitting, 3 years on hardware, and 5 years of accidental cover. For supply-only orders, a 1-year product guarantee applies for manufacturing defects, but FENSA and insurance-backed guarantees do not. All guarantees are transferable for a £25 administration fee if we are notified within one month of the property sale. These guarantee options give Pulborough homeowners long-term protection and assurance for every Bowalker installation.
How Should You Maintain Replacement Windows in Pulborough?
Yes, we recommend regular maintenance for replacement windows as a windows and door specialist Pulborough, focusing on cleaning, seal inspection, and damage checks to keep your installation performing as intended. Cleaning the frames and glass with mild soapy water prevents buildup and keeps uPVC and double glazed windows looking new, while inspecting weather seals for gaps or wear helps maintain energy efficiency and weather resistance. Checking for condensation or draughts around the window and door units allows you to spot issues early, and using high quality materials means routine care is usually straightforward. Addressing any problems promptly preserves the security and performance of your windows, supporting long-term value from your Bowalker Windows Limited installation.
Just as with windows, doors benefit from consistent upkeep to ensure their longevity and reliable performance.
How Should You Maintain New Doors in Pulborough?
We recommend regular care for your new entrance, patio, or bi-fold doors to keep them looking their best and working smoothly. Clean door panels and frames with mild soapy water to remove dirt and grit. Lubricate hinges and locks every 6 to 12 months to prevent stiffness and sticking. Inspect and replace worn rubber seals to keep out draughts and moisture, and clear tracks on sliding doors to avoid jams and misalignment. Check door alignment and address any rubbing or sticking early to prevent further wear. For complex issues or repairs beyond routine care, our team is available to provide professional support.
Just as doors benefit from attentive upkeep, rooflights also require regular maintenance to ensure longevity and optimal performance.
How Should You Maintain Rooflights in Pulborough?
To maintain rooflights in Pulborough, regularly clean the glass or plastic surfaces with soapy water or glass cleaner, inspect flashing for moss, loose joints, or storm damage, and clear debris from surrounding gutters and drainage channels. Check seals and gaskets for cracks, brittleness, or shrinkage, and test vent mechanisms for smooth operation. Look for signs of leaks, condensation, or water stains inside, and schedule maintenance at least once or twice a year. For high-access cleaning or persistent issues, contact a professional. As your windows and door specialist Pulborough, we provide advice and maintenance support to keep your rooflights performing at their best.
Can an Existing Rooflight Be Replaced Without Changing the Roof Opening?
Yes, most existing rooflights are replaced without altering the roof opening if a like-for-like or compatible modern unit is selected. Manufacturers design replacement rooflights to fit the original timber frame sizes, and you can confirm the correct size by checking the data plate on the window frame. Installation by a windows and door specialist Pulborough typically takes around 4 hours and includes fitting new flashings for weather resistance, without the need for scaffolding or masonry work. Changing the roof opening is only necessary if you want a larger window, are switching between pitched and flat rooflight types, or if the surrounding structure is damaged and needs repair. If you are unsure about compatibility or the condition of the existing opening, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends consulting a specialist before proceeding with replacement.
Once you’ve confirmed that your rooflight replacement is feasible, it’s important to prepare your home for the installation process to ensure everything goes smoothly.
