Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Cottage windows are traditional-style windows designed to reflect the character of period cottages and country homes. They commonly feature flush casement or sliding sash designs with glazing bars that divide the glass into smaller panes, creating an authentic heritage appearance. Modern cottage windows combine this traditional styling with energy-efficient glazing, secure locking systems and durable frame materials.

Cottage window installation costs between £500 and £1,800 per window, fully fitted. The final price depends on the material (uPVC, aluminium or timber), window size, style and glazing, as well as period-accurate features such as Georgian bars, astragal bars or leaded designs. Timber, sliding sash and bay and bow styles sit towards the upper end, while standard uPVC casements are the most economical. Property access and installation complexity also affect the overall cost.

Most cottage window installations are completed within 1 to 2 days, although larger projects or installations involving structural alterations may take longer. For example, a typical three-bedroom house is usually completed within two to three days. Before work begins, our team carefully surveys the property, confirms measurements and prepares every opening to ensure a precise fit. Our in-house installers complete every installation with minimal disruption whilst ensuring compliance with current Building Regulations.

Clean cottage windows by washing frames with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners that can damage painted, powder-coated or woodgrain finishes, before cleaning the glass with a non-abrasive glass cleaner to remove smears and residue. Inspect and clean hinges, multipoint locking hardware, drainage channels and opening mechanisms regularly to prevent debris accumulation, maintain smooth operation and ensure weather seals remain effective throughout the year.

The right cottage windows depend on your property’s architectural style, planning requirements, preferred frame material and energy-efficiency goals. Timber windows are often preferred for listed buildings and conservation areas, whilst uPVC and aluminium provide low-maintenance alternatives for many cottages and character homes. During your consultation, we assess your property and recommend cottage windows that combine traditional appearance with modern performance.

The best cottage window design reflects your property’s original character whilst improving comfort and energy efficiency. Features such as glazing bars, woodgrain finishes, leaded or stained glass and traditional hardware can all enhance the authentic appearance. Matching your cottage windows with complementary entrance doors and exterior finishes also creates a balanced and cohesive look.
