Types of Sliding Doors We Install and Replace

Sliding Entrance Doors

Sliding Entrance Doors

Wide glazed panels and a space-efficient opening mechanism make sliding entrance doors suitable for homes where easy access, natural light and a clear external view are priorities. The sliding configuration allows the door panel to move horizontally rather than swing into the surrounding floor area, helping homeowners make practical use of space around the entrance. Bowalker installs and replaces sliding entrance doors with secure locking hardware, carefully fitted tracks and suitable glazing options, with each system specified around the property's opening dimensions and access requirements.

Sliding Cornerless Doors

Sliding Cornerless Doors

Large glazed panels with minimal visible framing allow sliding cornerless doors to open adjoining elevations and create a wider visual connection between the home and surrounding outdoor space. Cornerless configurations can use sliding panels that meet at the corner, reducing the visual interruption associated with a conventional fixed corner post where the selected system and property structure permit. Our in-house team installs and replaces sliding cornerless doors with precision-fitted tracks, secure locking hardware and suitable glazing, with each configuration planned around the property's dimensions, layout and structural requirements.

Sliding uPVC Doors

Sliding uPVC Doors

Low-maintenance uPVC frames make sliding uPVC doors a practical option for homeowners seeking glazed access to patios, gardens and other external areas. The frame can be combined with suitable sealed glazing units and weather-resistant components, while the completed system's thermal performance depends on the frame, glazing and installation specification. Bowalker installs and replaces sliding uPVC doors with secure multipoint locking, carefully fitted tracks and suitable glazing systems selected to suit the property's opening and performance requirements.

Sliding Aluminium Doors

Sliding Aluminium Doors

Slim frame profiles and structural strength allow sliding aluminium doors to accommodate large glazed panels while maintaining a clean, contemporary appearance. Thermally broken aluminium systems use an insulating barrier within the frame to reduce heat transfer, while the selected glazing contributes to the thermal and acoustic performance of the complete door. We install and replace sliding aluminium doors with thermally broken frames, secure locking hardware, suitable glazing and precision-fitted sliding mechanisms for smooth everyday operation.

Internal Glazed Sliding Doors

Internal Glazed Sliding Doors

Glazed panels allow internal sliding doors to separate adjoining rooms without preventing natural light from passing between spaces. Their horizontal opening mechanism can also reduce the floor space required compared to a conventional hinged door, making them suitable for kitchens, living areas, and other connected rooms where space and light are important. Our dedicated in-house door installation team installs and replaces internal glazed sliding doors with suitable frames, smooth-running tracks, and glazing selected to suit the room's layout, privacy, and practical requirements.

Acoustic Glass Sliding Doors

Acoustic Glass Sliding Doors

Laminated acoustic glazing can help reduce unwanted sound transmission through sliding doors while retaining natural light and external views. Acoustic glass typically incorporates a specialist interlayer between glass panes to dampen vibration, with actual sound reduction determined by factors such as glass thickness, cavity construction, frame specification and sealing. We install and replace acoustic glass sliding doors with suitable laminated glazing, secure locking hardware, and carefully fitted perimeter seals, selected to meet the property's noise-control requirements.

Learn More →

Obscure Glass Sliding Doors

Obscure Glass Sliding Doors

Obscure glass sliding doors provide privacy by reducing clear visibility through the glazed panel while still allowing daylight to enter the space. Different levels and patterns of obscuration can suit areas where homeowners want natural light without a fully transparent view through the door. Bowalker installs and replaces obscure glass sliding doors with suitable glazing, secure hardware, and sliding systems, specified to meet the property's privacy, access, and design requirements.

Learn More →

Patterned Glass Sliding Doors

Patterned Glass Sliding Doors

Patterned glass introduces a decorative surface to sliding doors while providing varying degrees of privacy depending on the selected design. The textured or patterned finish can make this glazing suitable for spaces where homeowners want to combine natural light with a more distinctive visual detail. Bowalker installs and replaces patterned glass sliding doors with suitable frames, secure locking components and carefully fitted sliding mechanisms selected to complement the property's opening and design requirements.

Learn More →

Triple Glazed Sliding Doors

Triple Glazed Sliding Doors

Three panes of glass separated by sealed cavities form triple-glazed units that can improve thermal performance compared with less-insulated glazing configurations when incorporated into a suitable sliding door system. The completed door's performance also depends on factors such as spacer bars, cavity specification, frame construction and installation quality. Bowalker installs and replaces triple-glazed sliding doors with compatible frame systems, secure hardware, and carefully fitted seals, selected to meet the property's thermal and practical requirements.

Toughened Glass Sliding Doors

Toughened Glass Sliding Doors

Toughened safety glass undergoes controlled heat treatment to increase its strength and alter how it breaks if damaged, making it suitable for relevant glazed door applications. Its safety characteristics make toughened glass an important glazing option where the location and door specification require safety glazing. Our certified team installs and replaces sliding doors with suitable toughened glass, secure locking hardware, and carefully fitted frame and track systems, selected to suit the opening and glazing requirements.

Learn More →

Satin Glass Sliding Doors

Satin Glass Sliding Doors

Satin glass uses a translucent finish to diffuse visibility through a sliding door while allowing light to pass through it and into spaces. This balance of privacy and daylight can make satin glass suitable for internal rooms and other areas where clear views through the glazing are not required. Bowalker installs and replaces satin glass sliding doors with suitable frames, smooth-running tracks, and secure hardware, with glazing selected to meet the property's privacy and design requirements.

Learn More →

Astragal Bars on Sliding Doors

Astragal Bars on Sliding Doors

Astragal bars create the appearance of smaller individual panes across a larger glazed sliding door, providing a more traditional or character-led visual detail. Depending on the selected door system, bars can be positioned within or applied to the glazing to create the required pane arrangement without altering the door's sliding function. Bowalker installs and replaces sliding doors with suitable astragal bar configurations, glazing, secure hardware, and frame systems, all selected to complement the property's architectural style.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Sliding doors are door systems that open horizontally along a track rather than swinging inwards or outwards on hinges. They can incorporate large glazed panels within uPVC or aluminium frames, providing natural light, external views and convenient access without requiring additional floor space for the door swing. Sliding doors are commonly used between living areas and outdoor spaces such as gardens, patios and terraces.

A standard sliding door installation takes 1 to 2 days, depending on the opening dimensions, site preparation, and whether existing frames need to be removed. Large-format multi-panel or structural sliding systems may require additional time due to their weight, glass-handling requirements, and the need for precise alignment. Our expert in-house installation crew manages the entire process, from structural framing and secure glass mounting to final weather sealing and operational checks.

Clean sliding door glass with warm water, mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth, using a suitable non-abrasive glass cleaner for persistent marks. Wipe the frames with products appropriate for the selected frame material and avoid harsh chemicals that could affect seals, coatings or finishes. Regularly remove dirt and debris from the tracks, and keep the handles and locking points clean to ensure smooth everyday operation.

Choosing the right sliding door involves evaluating your architectural layout, structural opening size, frame material preferences, and desired thermal or visual performance. Slimline aluminium frames suit modern extensions and expansive spans, whereas uPVC offers excellent cost-efficiency and low maintenance. During your consultation, our team assesses your property environment to help you select a bespoke sliding system that balances aesthetics, security, and energy efficiency.

Popular sliding door design ideas include ultra-slimline multi-track sliding panels for maximum glass area, cornerless 90-degree sliding systems for seamless open-plan living, and internal glazed partitions for light-filled rooms. You can also incorporate integrated Venetian blinds, obscure privacy glazing, or matching RAL powder-coated frames to complement your home’s interior and exterior aesthetic.

Bowalker provides a comprehensive 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying sliding door installation and replacement projects. Furthermore, our FENSA registration (Reg. 33081) ensures full compliance with current UK Building Regulations for applicable replacement installations, offering you complete peace of mind regarding our high standards of workmanship and product durability.
