Professional Toughened Glass Door Installation and Replacement Services

As an experienced toughened glass door installer founded in 2009, Bowalker provides professional installation and replacement services for homeowners seeking safer, durable glazed doors for internal and external applications. Our in-house installers survey and install toughened glass doors in configurations including entrance, sliding, bifold, French and cornerless doors, with each system specified to the opening size, frame material and intended use.

Toughened safety glass is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness and, when correctly specified, can meet BS EN 12150 requirements for safety glazing applications. When broken, it fragments into small pieces rather than large, sharp shards, and you can choose different glass thicknesses and glazing configurations to suit the door design and safety requirements. We carefully measure each opening before installation so the glazing, frame, hinges, tracks, locks and seals work together correctly.

Call Bowalker on 01444 810 111 to arrange your free consultation for toughened glass door installation or replacement. Our in-house team manages the process from survey and specification through to installation and final inspection, with qualifying replacement work supported by FENSA registration (33081) and our 10-year insurance-backed guarantee.

Types of Toughened Glass Doors We Install and Replace

Toughened Glass Entrance Doors

Toughened Glass Entrance Doors

Safety glazing combined with a durable external door system lets natural light into entrance areas whilst increasing impact resistance, making toughened glass entrance doors suitable for front and rear entrances where glazed panels are preferred. Toughened glass can be up to five times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness and is manufactured to BS EN 12150 requirements. When broken, it fractures into small, relatively blunt fragments. We install and replace these doors with suitable safety glazing, secure locking and weather-resistant frames.

Toughened Glass Cornerless Doors

Toughened Glass Cornerless Doors

Large toughened glass panels with minimal visible framing create wide openings and clear views between indoor and outdoor spaces, making cornerless doors suitable for contemporary extensions and open-plan living areas. Where glazing is located in a critical position, Building Regulations require a form of safe breakage, robustness or suitable small-pane construction rather than automatically requiring toughened glass. Bowalker installs and replaces toughened glass cornerless doors with accurately aligned panels, suitable safety glazing and secure hardware selected around the door system.

Toughened Glass uPVC Doors

Toughened Glass uPVC Doors

Multi-chambered uPVC frames combined with toughened safety glazing provide a practical option for entrances and rear openings where natural light, thermal performance and weather resistance are priorities. Suitable sealed units can incorporate toughened glass alongside Low-E coatings, argon-filled cavities and warm-edge spacers, depending on the glazing specification. To suit each opening and door configuration, we install and replace toughened glass uPVC doors with secure multipoint locking, weather-resistant frames and carefully specified safety glazing.

Toughened Glass Aluminium Doors

Toughened Glass Aluminium Doors

Slim, thermally broken aluminium frames combined with toughened safety glazing suit contemporary homes, extensions, and larger openings where narrow sightlines, structural strength and durability are priorities. Aluminium systems can support larger glazed areas whilst thermal breaks help reduce heat transfer through the frame, improving insulation performance without compromising the slim sightlines that define the material. With durable powder-coated finishes available across the full RAL colour palette, we install and replace toughened glass aluminium doors with thermally broken profiles, secure multipoint hardware and carefully specified safety glazing.

Toughened Glass Timber Doors

Toughened Glass Timber Doors

Timber frames combined with toughened safety glazing suit cottages, period properties and homes where natural joinery complements the existing architecture. Engineered timber can provide improved dimensional stability compared with traditional solid timber, whilst paint or stain finishes maintain the frame's character. We install and replace toughened glass timber doors with suitable safety glazing, secure hardware and weather-resistant finishes, selecting the frame and glazing specification to suit the property's architectural style and the door's intended use.

Toughened Glass Composite Doors

Toughened Glass Composite Doors

Composite door construction combined with toughened safety glazing suits front and rear entrances that require natural light alongside an insulated door design. Depending on the selected system, composite doors can incorporate an insulated core and GRP outer skin, with glazed panels specified to meet the door's safety and thermal requirements. We install and replace toughened glass composite doors with suitable safety glazing, secure multipoint locking, weather-resistant seals and carefully measured frames for reliable everyday operation.

Toughened Glass Sliding Doors

Toughened Glass Sliding Doors

Horizontally sliding toughened glass panels move along top-hung or floor-supported track systems, depending on the selected door design, making them suitable for patios, extensions and garden-facing rooms where wide openings and efficient use of floor space are priorities. Some systems also offer soft-close mechanisms and multipoint locking for improved security and smooth everyday operation. Using compatible track hardware, secure multipoint locking and accurately aligned toughened safety-glazed panels, we install and replace sliding doors sized and specified to match each opening's dimensions and performance requirements.

Toughened Glass Bifold Doors

Toughened Glass Bifold Doors

Multiple folding toughened glass panels create wide openings between indoor and outdoor spaces, making toughened glass bifold doors suitable for kitchens, extensions and garden rooms where flexible access and large glazed areas are priorities. Bifold systems can be top-hung or bottom-rolling, with the weight carried through the head or floor depending on the design. Bowalker installs and replaces toughened glass bifold doors with compatible folding hardware, secure locking, suitable frames and carefully specified safety glazing.

Toughened Glass French Doors

Toughened Glass French Doors

Two hinged panels incorporating toughened safety glazing create a wider opening than a single door whilst providing natural light and a traditional double-door appearance. Safety glazing is particularly relevant where glass is used in critical locations, with Building Regulations requiring glazing to meet appropriate safe-breakage, robustness or small-pane provisions. To suit each property and opening configuration, Bowalker installs and replaces toughened glass French doors with suitable heavy-duty hinges, secure multipoint locking, shoot bolt fixings for the inactive leaf and durable weather-resistant frames.

Commercial Toughened Glass Doors

Commercial Toughened Glass Doors

Busy commercial entrances and internal glazed openings require glass selected with impact safety and frequent use in mind. Toughened glass is significantly stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness and breaks into small granular pieces if failure occurs. Bowalker installs commercial toughened glass doors for suitable offices, retail spaces, hospitality premises, and shared buildings, completing precise frame fitting, hardware setup, glazing installation, and final safety checks.

Bowalker measures each opening and installs the appropriate toughened glazing within a compatible door system, with careful attention to frame support, locks, seals, and alignment. Replacement work leaves homeowners with a secure, properly fitted glazed entrance designed for regular household use.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Toughened Glass Doors?

Installing toughened glass doors improves impact resistance, enhances safety, increases natural light, supports secure access and provides durable performance for busy areas. When combined with suitable frames, hardware and energy-efficient glazing, toughened glass doors can provide a practical solution for entrances, patios, extensions and internal spaces whilst complementing both traditional and contemporary properties.

Six key benefits of installing toughened glass doors include:

Toughened Glass Door

Improved Impact Resistance

Toughened glass is heat-treated to provide greater strength than standard annealed glass, making it suitable for doors that experience regular everyday use.

Enhanced Safety

When toughened glass breaks, it fragments into small, relatively blunt pieces rather than large, sharp shards, reducing the risk of serious cuts.

Increases Natural Light

Large glazed door panels let daylight into the property, helping create brighter interiors and stronger visual connections between adjoining spaces.

Supports Secure Door Systems

Toughened glass can be combined with secure frames, multipoint locking systems and quality hardware to provide a robust glazed door installation.

Suitable for High-Traffic Areas

Its increased resistance to thermal and mechanical stress makes toughened glass suitable for frequently used external and internal doors.

Provides Flexible Design Options

Toughened glass doors are available in entrance, sliding, bifold, French and cornerless configurations, with different frame materials and glass finishes to suit the property.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Toughened glass doors use heat-treated safety glass, made by heating annealed glass to about 620°C and rapidly cooling it to create glass that is about five times stronger and more resistant to impact and thermal stress than standard glass of the same thickness. If toughened glass breaks, it is designed to fragment into small granular pieces rather than large sharp shards. It can be used with uPVC, aluminium, timber, steel and composite door systems in entrance, sliding, bifold and French door configurations.

A standard toughened glass door installation takes around one to two days, depending on the door configuration, opening size and condition of the existing frame. Straightforward French or entrance-door replacements may take less time, whilst larger bifold, sliding or bespoke systems can take longer for positioning, alignment, and adjustment. Our in-house installers manage the installation, sealing, hardware adjustment and final checks before completing the project.

Clean toughened glass doors with warm water, mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints, dust and general marks from the glass and frame. Use a non-abrasive glass cleaner for stubborn marks and avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals or metal scrapers that could scratch the glass or damage frame finishes. Clean sliding and bifold tracks with a soft brush or vacuum attachment, and periodically wipe hinges, handles, seals and locking points to maintain smooth everyday operation.

Choose the right toughened glass doors by considering the door location, opening dimensions, frame material, glass thickness, glazing configuration, opening mechanism and frequency of use. Select the right glazing specification based on the door system, pane size, and application, and consider safety glazing requirements for critical locations. Bifold and sliding doors suit wider openings, French doors complement traditional properties and aluminium frames suit larger contemporary designs.

Consider large bifold doors for garden-facing extensions, sliding doors for wide contemporary openings, French doors for traditional properties and glazed entrance doors for brighter hallways and entrances. Aluminium frames can provide slim modern sightlines, whilst timber and uPVC can complement traditional architecture. You can choose clear, frosted, or decorative glazing to suit privacy and design requirements, with toughened glass available in different thicknesses and suitable configurations for the selected door system.

Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying toughened glass door installation and replacement work. Our in-house installers manage each project from survey and specification through to fitting and final inspection, ensuring consistent workmanship and accurate installation. Where applicable, qualifying replacement external door installations can be registered under FENSA, supporting compliance with relevant Building Regulations.
