Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

No, planning permission is not usually required for windows and door specialist Worthing projects when you are replacing existing windows or doors in houses outside conservation areas and not altering the appearance significantly. Permission is needed if the property is a flat, is listed, is in a conservation area, or if the replacement changes the style, material, or size of the window or door. For any property with special status or where you plan a major change, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends checking with Worthing Borough Council or consulting a local specialist to confirm the exact requirements for your situation.

This is particularly important if your property falls within one of Worthing’s conservation areas or is subject to Article 4 Directions, where stricter rules apply.

Yes, conservation area and Article 4 restrictions do apply to replacement windows and doors in Worthing, especially for properties in designated areas such as Winchester Road, Goring-by-Sea, Tarring (Church Road), Ambrose Place, Warwick Place, Cowper Road, and Warwick Gardens, all managed by Adur & Worthing Councils. Article 4 Directions remove permitted development rights, so planning permission is often required for any changes to front or public-facing windows and doors, with a strong preference for traditional materials like painted timber sash or casement windows; uPVC is frequently discouraged on principal elevations. Flats and maisonettes typically require planning permission for window or door replacements regardless of conservation status. Before starting any project with Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Worthing, we recommend checking your property’s status using Adur & Worthing Councils’ conservation maps or seeking pre-application advice to confirm the specific requirements for your address.

Yes, the best window styles for Worthing homes depend on both the age of the property and the local coastal environment. Bowalker Windows Limited recommends vertical sliding and flush sash windows for traditional or period properties, casement windows for general use, aluminium windows for modern builds, and bay or bow windows for Victorian and Edwardian homes. Vertical sliding and flush sash windows fit older or conservation-area homes by replicating authentic timber designs, while casement windows – available in uPVC, wood-effect, or aluminium – offer tight seals and thermal efficiency against coastal weather. Aluminium windows suit contemporary builds with slim frames and high durability, and bay or bow windows create a feature and maximise light in period properties. For tailored advice on the right window and door specialist Worthing solution for your property, you can contact us directly.

The best door types for Worthing homes depend on property style, security requirements, and the area’s coastal climate. Composite front doors offer strong security and weather resistance. uPVC doors provide a cost-effective, low-maintenance solution. Aluminium bi-fold and sliding doors suit modern extensions and resist corrosion. Timber or timber-alternative doors match period properties and conservation homes. Choosing the right door for your property ensures the right balance of style, durability, and performance.

Just as selecting the right door enhances your home’s functionality and appearance, choosing the appropriate rooflight can transform your living space with natural light and ventilation.

Yes, several rooflight types are suitable for homes and extensions in Worthing, depending on the property’s style and lighting requirements. Options include fixed rooflights for uninterrupted daylight, opening rooflights for added ventilation, roof lanterns to create a feature in flat roof extensions, and walk-on-glass rooflights for areas where foot traffic is needed above. Fixed rooflights are often chosen for rooms where maximum natural light is desired without the need for opening, while opening rooflights are ideal for kitchens or bathrooms that benefit from fresh air. Roof lanterns suit larger flat roof spaces, adding height and a traditional look, and walk-on-glass rooflights are used in terraces or above basements to safely allow light below. For the best fit and performance, consulting a windows and door specialist Worthing like Bowalker Windows Limited will help you select the right rooflight for your specific property and project.

Yes, roofline products on Worthing homes should be replaced when visible signs of wear, damage, or failure appear, such as rot or cracking in fascias and soffits, persistent leaks around the eaves, sagging gutters, or recurring blockages that do not clear with routine maintenance. Rot or cracking allows water to penetrate and damage the structure, while leaks can lead to damp and mould inside the property. Sagging gutters may indicate that brackets or the guttering itself have failed, risking overflow and water damage to walls. Recurring blockages often signal that the system is no longer fit for purpose and may be causing water to back up against the building. If any of these issues are present, Bowalker Windows Limited recommends arranging a professional inspection by a windows and door specialist Worthing to assess the condition and advise on replacement.

Yes, every windows and door specialist Worthing installation from Bowalker Windows Limited is covered by a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee that applies to both the product and our workmanship. This guarantee means that if any issue arises with the materials or the fitting, we take responsibility for resolving it quickly and professionally, standing with our customers throughout the process. Our approach reflects a customer-focused commitment – when things go wrong, we act promptly to put them right, reinforcing the long-term value and security you receive from choosing Bowalker for your installation.

To help you maintain the quality and longevity of your guaranteed installation, we recommend following these simple care and maintenance tips.

Clean frames and glass with warm, soapy water to remove salt and grime. Use a streak-free solution for the glass. Lubricate handles, hinges, and locks with a light oil or silicone spray to keep them moving smoothly. Inspect seals and weatherstripping for wear, replacing any damaged sections to prevent drafts and moisture. Prevent condensation by using extractor fans or a dehumidifier in humid areas, and wipe away any moisture on the glass. For timber frames, sand peeling paint, prime exposed wood, and apply weather-resistant paint or varnish as needed. If you notice misted double glazing, contact our team for professional repair.

Just as with windows, doors in coastal environments require consistent upkeep to ensure longevity and optimal performance.

We recommend regular care for newly installed entrance doors, patio doors, and bi-folds in Worthing’s coastal climate. Clean door surfaces with mild detergent to remove salt and debris, and check hinges and locks for smooth movement – lubricate as needed to prevent corrosion. Inspect weather seals to keep out drafts and moisture. For timber doors, repaint or refinish when necessary to protect against damp. For any repairs or persistent issues, contact our team for professional assessment and service.

Just as doors require ongoing attention to withstand the coastal environment, rooflights also benefit from regular maintenance to ensure their longevity and performance.

To maintain rooflights in Worthing, clean the glass and frames to remove dirt and buildup, check seals for leaks, clear debris from drainage channels, and inspect opening mechanisms for smooth operation. If you notice persistent leaks or mechanical issues, arrange professional servicing to restore function and protect your property.

Yes, most existing rooflights are replaced without altering the roof opening if you select a direct-replacement or custom-sized unit that matches the current frame. The key factor is the condition of the upstand or kerb – if it is damaged, rotten, or does not meet current standards, repairs or upgrades may be needed before fitting the new rooflight. Straightforward replacements usually do not require planning permission, but if the work involves major structural changes or significant thermal upgrades, local building control may need to be notified. Before arranging a replacement with Bowalker Windows Limited, confirm the type of rooflight and the roof structure to ensure the right fit and compliance for your windows and door specialist Worthing project.

To make the replacement process as smooth as possible, there are several steps you can take to prepare your home for a professional assessment.

  • Interior Access: Move furniture, curtains, blinds, and decorative items away from windows and doors to provide clear access for inspection and measurement.
  • Exterior Access: Trim bushes or plants near window and door frames and ensure pathways are clear for safe and efficient exterior assessment.
  • Issue List: Make a list of specific issues such as drafts, condensation, or operational problems to discuss during the visit.
  • Property Status: Note if your property is listed or in a conservation area, as this may affect product options and permissions.
  • Product Questions: Prepare questions about materials like uPVC, timber, or aluminium, and energy efficiency to help tailor recommendations.
  • Compliance and Warranty: Ask about FENSA certification, product warranties, and building regulations compliance to ensure peace of mind with your installation.
