Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

No, planning permission is not usually required for like-for-like replacement windows or doors in Wadhurst unless the property is listed or falls under an Article 4 Direction.

Properties in Wadhurst within a Conservation Area or subject to Article 4 Directions face restrictions on replacement windows and doors. Like-for-like replacements are generally permitted if the new windows or doors match the original materials and design, but Article 4 Directions may require a formal planning application even for identical replacements. Listed buildings always require Listed Building Consent. Check your property’s status with Wealden District Council before starting any replacement project.

When considering suitable window styles for your Wadhurst home, it’s important to choose options that respect these local regulations.

Yes, casement, sash, and flush windows are best suited to homes in Wadhurst.

Yes, composite doors, timber doors, and high security uPVC doors are best suited to homes in Wadhurst. Composite doors provide a durable, weather-resistant option with styles that complement both period and contemporary homes. Timber doors maintain the authentic look required for properties in conservation areas or with heritage features. High security uPVC doors deliver excellent thermal efficiency and require minimal maintenance.

When considering glazing options to pair with these door types, several rooflight solutions also meet the needs of Wadhurst homes.

Yes, flat glass rooflights, roof lanterns, pitched roof windows, and conservation rooflights are suitable for homes and extensions in Wadhurst.

Knowing when to replace roofline products is essential for protecting your Wadhurst home. We recommend considering replacement if you notice any of the following:

  • Visible rot, warping, or decay in fascias or soffits
  • Persistent leaks, water stains, or damp patches near guttering
  • Sagging, misaligned, or broken sections of guttering or cladding
  • Evidence of pest infestation, such as nesting or gnaw marks
  • Peeling paint or surface damage that exposes the underlying material

If you spot any of these issues, it’s time to arrange a professional inspection. Timely replacement helps maintain your property’s appearance and ensures your windows and door specialist installation continues to perform as intended.

Choosing a reputable installer with strong guarantees is just as important as recognizing when replacement is needed.

Bowalker Windows Limited provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee for new windows, doors, and rooflights installed in Wadhurst. This guarantee covers both the product and our workmanship, giving homeowners documented protection and confidence in the durability and performance of their investment.

To keep your replacement windows in top condition, we recommend a simple maintenance routine:

  • Clean frames and glass regularly with a mild detergent and soft cloth to prevent dirt buildup on both uPVC and aluminium finishes.
  • Inspect seals and weatherstripping for wear, gaps, or damage, and address any issues promptly to maintain energy efficiency and weather resistance.
  • Lubricate moving parts such as hinges, handles, and locks with a silicone-based product to ensure smooth operation.
  • Check for visible damage, including cracks in the glass or warping of frames, and arrange repairs if needed.

Consistent care helps your replacement windows stay secure, attractive, and high-performing for years to come.

Just as with windows, a simple routine will help your new doors remain in excellent condition.

Maintaining your new doors is straightforward and helps ensure long-term performance. We suggest the following steps:

  • Wipe down door surfaces with a soft cloth and mild detergent to keep finishes looking fresh.
  • Check hinges and locks for smooth operation, tightening any loose screws and confirming that locking mechanisms work properly.
  • Apply lubricant to hardware such as hinges, handles, and locks to reduce friction and prevent wear.
  • Inspect weather seals around the frame for damage or gaps, replacing any worn sections to maintain insulation and weather resistance.

Regular attention keeps your new doors secure, attractive, and functioning as they should for your Wadhurst property.

Clean the glass and frames with a non-abrasive cleaner, check for leaks around the perimeter, inspect seals for wear or damage, and clear any drainage channels.

Proper maintenance not only extends the lifespan of your rooflight but also makes future replacements more straightforward.

Yes, an existing rooflight can be replaced without altering the roof opening if the new unit matches the size and shape of the current opening.

Once you’ve confirmed that your replacement will fit the existing opening, it’s important to prepare your home for the installation process.

A little preparation helps your appointment go smoothly. Before your windows and door specialist arrives, we recommend:

  • Clearing indoor spaces by removing curtains, blinds, and moving furniture away from windows and doors
  • Preparing outdoor access by moving garden furniture, clearing exterior paths, and unlocking gates
  • Protecting floors and belongings by rolling up rugs and covering large furniture that can’t be moved
  • Keeping pets in a separate room and following any ventilation advice provided
  • Gathering relevant documents and questions, such as FENSA certificates or specific concerns about your windows and doors

These steps help us work efficiently and safely, ensuring a smooth experience for your Wadhurst windows and door specialist service.
