Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Planning Permission to Replace Windows or Doors in Sevenoaks?
No, planning permission is not usually required for like-for-like replacement of standard windows or doors in Sevenoaks, as most houses benefit from permitted development rights. Permission or special consent is needed if the property is listed, in a conservation area and you are changing the design or materials, subject to an Article 4 Direction, a flat or maisonette, or if you are creating new openings. All replacement windows and doors must still comply with Building Regulations covering thermal performance, safety glazing, ventilation, and fire safety, and using a FENSA-registered installer like Bowalker Windows Limited allows self-certification for Building Regulations compliance. If you are unsure about your property’s status or the scope of your planned work, our windows and door specialist Sevenoaks team can help you clarify the requirements before you proceed.
This is especially important in areas where stricter planning controls are enforced to preserve the unique heritage of the neighborhood.
Are There Conservation Area or Article 4 Restrictions for Replacement Windows and Doors in Sevenoaks?
Yes, conservation area and Article 4 restrictions do apply to replacement windows and doors in Sevenoaks where local planning controls are in place to protect the character of historic or architecturally significant areas.
When selecting replacement windows and doors within these regulated areas, it’s important to choose styles that both comply with local guidelines and complement the character of your property.
Which Window Styles Are Best Suited to Homes in Sevenoaks?
Yes, certain window styles are especially well suited to homes in Sevenoaks. Sliding sash windows fit period and conservation area homes for their traditional look and smooth vertical operation, while casement and flush casement windows suit both traditional and modern properties by offering tight weather resistance and a flat, timber-like appearance. Aluminium windows are ideal for contemporary builds, providing slim frames and wide glass areas for excellent light and durability, and bow or bay windows work well in Victorian or Edwardian homes by expanding space and increasing natural light. Tilt and turn windows are a practical choice for upper floors or family homes, allowing safe ventilation and easy cleaning from inside. For tailored advice on the best window and door options for your Sevenoaks home, you can consult Bowalker Windows Limited at https://www.bowalker.co.uk/.
Which Door Types Are Best Suited to Homes in Sevenoaks?
Yes, the best door types for Sevenoaks homes are selected based on property style, security needs, and weather resistance. Solid-core and timber-style composite doors suit both period and modern properties, offering thermal efficiency, weather resistance, and features like multi-point locking and anti-snap cylinders. uPVC entrance, French, and patio doors are a practical choice for those seeking low maintenance, strong insulation, and a wide range of finishes to match local styles. Hardwood or engineered timber doors fit traditional or conservation properties, providing durability and a natural look, though they require periodic upkeep. Aluminium bi-folding and sliding doors are ideal for extensions or maximizing garden views, with slim sightlines, structural strength, and large glazed panels for light and thermal performance. When choosing a new door with Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Sevenoaks, consider your property’s age, location, and the specific features you value most.
Just as the right door enhances your home’s character and performance, selecting the appropriate rooflight can transform your living space with natural light and architectural appeal.
Which Rooflight Types Are Suitable for Homes and Extensions in Sevenoaks?
Yes, a range of rooflight types are suitable for homes and extensions in Sevenoaks, each offering distinct benefits for natural light, thermal performance, and architectural fit. Flat glass rooflights, available as fixed or vented units, suit modern extensions and provide a minimalist look, with vented options ideal for kitchens or bathrooms needing extra airflow. Aluminium roof lanterns add height and a focal point to flat-roof spaces or orangeries, using slim frames for a wide glass area and colour-matched finishes. Pitched roof windows work best for sloped roofs, loft conversions, or vaulted ceilings, with centre-pivot and top-hung designs to match different access needs. Conservation and heritage rooflights are designed for period properties or conservation areas, replicating traditional ironwork while meeting modern glazing standards. Walk-on glass rooflights are used above basements or lower-level rooms, allowing light through without losing usable floor space, and feature a flush, anti-slip surface. Matching the right rooflight to your renovation or extension goals with Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Sevenoaks helps achieve the balance of style, comfort, and compliance for your property.
When Should Roofline Products Be Replaced on a Sevenoaks Home?
Yes, roofline products installed by a windows and door specialist in Sevenoaks should be replaced when they reach the end of their typical lifespan – 20 to 30 years for uPVC and 10 to 15 years for timber – or when you notice signs such as flaking paint, warping, damp patches, leaking gutters, pest infiltration, or rot. Timber roofline systems require maintenance every 3 to 5 years, including sanding and repainting, while uPVC options are low-maintenance and more durable. Coordinating roofline replacement with new windows or doors helps maintain a consistent appearance and can reduce overall installation costs by combining scaffolding and labour.
When investing in roofline replacements or new windows and doors, it’s important to consider the guarantees and protections offered by your chosen installer.
What Guarantee Applies to Bowalker Installations in Sevenoaks?
Yes, every windows and door specialist Sevenoaks installation by Bowalker Windows Limited comes with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee that covers all workmanship on your new windows and doors. This guarantee applies to every installation we complete, providing homeowners with added security and confidence that any issues related to our fitting or construction will be resolved without additional cost during the guarantee period. By offering this level of protection, Bowalker demonstrates a commitment to high quality and customer satisfaction on every project.
How Should You Maintain New Doors in Sevenoaks?
- Clean doors regularly with non-abrasive products to maintain their appearance.
- Check and lubricate hinges and locks to ensure smooth operation.
- Inspect weather seals for wear or damage and replace if necessary.
- Address any issues with appearance or function promptly to prevent further problems.
Just as doors benefit from routine care, rooflights also require consistent attention to preserve their condition and functionality.
How Should You Maintain Rooflights in Sevenoaks?
Regular maintenance for rooflights from Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist in Sevenoaks involves cleaning the glass and frames, checking seals for leaks, and clearing drainage channels.
When considering rooflight replacement, it’s important to understand how maintenance needs and installation requirements can affect your options.
Can an Existing Rooflight Be Replaced Without Changing the Roof Opening?
No, not every rooflight can be replaced without changing the roof opening, but in most cases, if the new unit matches the original size and structural requirements, replacement is possible without altering the opening. This approach maintains the roof’s integrity and streamlines installation, as the frame, flashing, and weather resistance features remain compatible. If you want to change the style, glazing type, or add new ventilation features, extra adjustments to the opening or surrounding roof structure may be necessary. We recommend consulting Bowalker Windows Limited before proceeding, so we can confirm compatibility and advise on the best replacement options for your property.
Once you’ve confirmed the feasibility of your rooflight replacement, preparing your home and gathering relevant information will help ensure a smooth installation process.
How Should You Prepare for Your Sevenoaks Windows and Door Specialist's Visit?
- Clear both interior and exterior access routes by moving furniture, removing curtains or blinds, and unlocking gates or shifting vehicles to allow our team direct entry to all windows and doors.
- Gather information about your goals, such as improving thermal efficiency, reducing noise, or updating to composite or aluminium frames.
- Note any local restrictions if your property is in a conservation area or subject to planning rules.
- Prepare questions about our Fensa Reg: 33081 certification, membership in the Plastic Window Federation, and the installation timeline.
