Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

No, for most standard houses in Guildford, replacing windows or doors with like-for-like designs does not require planning permission. Permission is needed if the property is a listed building, in a conservation area, a flat or maisonette, or if structural changes are involved. All window and door installations must still comply with UK Building Regulations, covering thermal performance, ventilation, safety glass, and fire escape routes. Using a FENSA-registered specialist such as Bowalker Windows Limited helps you meet these compliance requirements for windows and door specialist projects in Guildford.

Yes, conservation area and Article 4 restrictions do apply to replacement windows and doors in certain parts of Guildford where local planning controls are in place. These restrictions mean that if your property is within a designated conservation area or subject to an Article 4 Direction, you may need approval before changing the style, material, or appearance of your windows or doors, including options like uPVC windows or double glazing. Requirements often include matching the original design and materials to preserve the character of the area, and Guildford Borough Council is the authority that confirms whether your property is affected. Before starting any replacement project with Bowalker Windows Limited as your windows and door specialist Guildford, always check the specific planning requirements for your address to avoid delays or compliance issues.

With these restrictions in mind, it’s important to choose window styles that not only suit your home’s character but also comply with local planning guidelines.

Yes, some window styles are particularly well suited to homes in Guildford, depending on the age of your property and any planning or conservation requirements. Sliding sash windows are ideal for period and heritage properties, preserving classic features, while casement and heritage flush casement windows offer versatility for both older and newer homes. Bay and bow windows bring extra light and a sense of grandeur, making them popular for larger or semi-detached properties. For contemporary homes or extensions, aluminium and steel-look windows provide a modern finish with slim sightlines, and timber or timber-alternative frames are often required for listed buildings or homes in conservation areas to meet local planning rules. Matching the window style to your property type helps maintain its character and may be necessary for compliance, so for tailored advice on windows and door specialist services in Guildford, you can contact Bowalker Windows Limited at https://www.bowalker.co.uk/.

Yes, certain door types are better suited to homes in Guildford depending on your property’s style, security needs, and local planning requirements. Composite doors offer high security and excellent insulation, making them a strong choice for front door replacements where durability and energy efficiency are priorities. For period or conservation properties, timber or timber-alternative doors maintain a classic appearance and can satisfy planning rules in protected areas, while still providing modern performance. Aluminium and uPVC doors suit modern homes seeking a low-maintenance, weather-resistant finish and a wide range of design options. At Bowalker Windows Limited, we recommend prioritising high quality and secure products, and consulting a windows and door specialist Guildford for tailored advice that fits your property’s requirements.
