Professional French Door Installation and Replacement Services
Established in 2009, Bowalker provides professional French door installation and replacement services for homeowners seeking more natural light, convenient access and a traditional double-door configuration. Our in-house installers survey, fit, and replace French doors in uPVC, aluminium, and timber, with each system specified to the opening dimensions, frame material, glazing requirements, and intended use.
French doors use two hinged leaves that meet at the centre, providing flexible access to gardens, patios and other living spaces while maintaining a balanced appearance when closed. We install and replace French doors with suitable glazing, secure multipoint locking, weather-resistant seals, and durable hardware, offering options such as acoustic, solar control, obscure, and toughened glass to meet different privacy, comfort, and performance requirements.
Call Bowalker on 01444 810 111 to arrange your free consultation, where our team assesses the opening, frame preferences and glazing requirements before providing a no-obligation quote. Types of French Doors We Install and Replace
French Entrance Doors
French Entrance Doors
A traditional two-panel arrangement where both hinged doors swing outward or inward from a central meeting point, creating a grand, welcoming entryway for front facades or prominent garden transitions. Featuring wide spans of glass and classic profiles, these entrances maximise natural illumination while preserving architectural heritage. Bowalker installs French entrance doors using secure multi-point locking systems, durable hinges, and weathertight seals tailored to your property's precise dimensions. Every French entrance door installation is handled carefully to ensure proper alignment and smooth daily operation.
Learn More →French Cornerless Doors
French Cornerless Doors
A specialised architectural design where two hinged glass panels meet at a 90-degree angle without a structural corner post, allowing an entire room corner to open wide for seamless outdoor connection. These systems demand meticulous structural alignment and robust load-bearing support to ensure smooth swing operation and weather resistance. Our in-house team measures and fits French cornerless doors with specialised framing and secure hardware to create a dramatic, open-plan transition that enhances modern living spaces.
Learn More →French uPVC Doors
French uPVC Doors
Multi-chambered uPVC frames, combined with sealed glazing, provide French doors with thermal insulation, weather resistance, and straightforward routine maintenance. Unlike natural timber, uPVC does not require periodic painting or staining, making it a practical choice for homeowners seeking a low-maintenance frame material. Different colours, foil finishes and glazing configurations allow the doors to complement a range of property styles. Bowalker installs French uPVC doors with suitable sealed glazing, secure multipoint locking, and durable weather seals, specified to meet the opening, appearance, and performance requirements.
Learn More →French Aluminium Doors
French Aluminium Doors
Strong, slender aluminium profiles allow French doors to accommodate generous glazed areas and narrower sightlines, creating a clean appearance suited to contemporary homes and modern extensions. Thermally broken profiles incorporate an insulating barrier within the metal frame to reduce direct heat transfer and support thermal performance. Powder-coated finishes also offer a wide range of durable colour options for various architectural schemes. We install French aluminium doors with compatible glazing, secure hardware and carefully fitted seals, with RAL colour options selected to complement the property's exterior or interior design.
Learn More →French Timber Doors
French Timber Doors
Natural wood frames deliver timeless warmth, historic authenticity, and exceptional structural rigidity, making them the ideal choice for period properties, conservation areas, and heritage restorations. These traditional systems can be tailored with bespoke paint or wood-stain finishes to harmonise with existing joinery. Our in-house team surveys and installs French timber doors with high-performance glazing and weather-stripping to blend classical charm with modern energy efficiency and long-term protection.
Learn More →Internal Glazed French Doors
Internal Glazed French Doors
Designed primarily for interior separations, these doors feature clear or translucent glass panels within robust frames to distribute natural light across adjoining indoor spaces without sacrificing room boundaries. They create an open, airy atmosphere inside homes while providing acoustic division where required. Bowalker installs internal glazed French doors with toughened safety glass and reliable hinges to ensure long-term indoor performance and seamless architectural flow throughout your property.
Learn More →Solar Glass French Doors
Solar Glass French Doors
Specialised solar-control glass coatings reflect excess heat and ultraviolet rays away from the interior, preventing south-facing rooms or conservatories from overheating during hot summer months. This advanced glazing maintains comfortable indoor temperatures while still permitting high levels of natural daylight transmission. We install solar glass French doors to help reduce cooling loads and protect indoor furnishings from sun fading, ensuring year-round comfort.
Learn More →Acoustic Glass French Doors
Acoustic Glass French Doors
Specialist laminated acoustic glazing uses layered glass and sound-dampening interlayers to help reduce external noise transmission through French doors. This specification can benefit properties affected by sources such as road traffic, aircraft or other environmental noise, although overall acoustic performance also depends on the frame, seals and quality of installation. Treating these components as a single, integrated system is more effective than relying on glazing alone. Our in-house installers install acoustic glass French doors with compatible frames, secure hardware and carefully fitted perimeter seals around the opening.
Learn More →Obscure Glass French Doors
Obscure Glass French Doors
Textured, frosted, or similarly treated glazing limits clear visibility through French doors while still transmitting natural light into the room. Different levels of obscuration make this glass suitable for overlooked entrances, side access points, and other openings where greater privacy is preferred without creating a dark interior. The required finish can be matched with different frame materials and door configurations to suit the property. Bowalker installs obscure-glass French doors with appropriate privacy levels, secure hardware, and compatible frames, selected based on the opening's location and intended use.
Learn More →Patterned Glass French Doors
Patterned Glass French Doors
Featuring decorative etched or artistic designs within the glass surface, patterned glazing gives French doors distinctive visual detail while providing varying levels of privacy. These textured patterns allow natural light to pass through while reducing direct visibility, making the glazing suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Different patterns can also be selected to complement existing windows, joinery and architectural features. We install patterned glass French doors with suitable frames and hardware, matching the chosen glazing design to your home's interior style and practical requirements.
Learn More →Triple Glazed French Doors
Triple Glazed French Doors
Consisting of three individual glass panes separated by insulating cavities, triple-glazed units provide an additional thermal barrier that can reduce heat transfer through French doors. The extra pane also increases the overall weight of the glazing, making compatible frames, hinges and supporting hardware important for stable operation. Thermal performance ultimately depends on the complete glass-and-frame specification rather than on the number of panes alone. Our in-house team installs triple-glazed French doors with suitable frames, secure hardware, and carefully selected seals tailored to the property's thermal requirements.
Learn More →Toughened Glass French Doors
Toughened Glass French Doors
Constructed with thermally treated safety glass, toughened-glass French doors provide greater resistance to impact and thermal stress than standard annealed glazing. If breakage occurs, the glass is designed to fragment into relatively small pieces rather than the larger sharp shards associated with ordinary annealed glass. This breakage pattern makes toughened glazing suitable for many door locations where safety glass is required. Bowalker's in-house team installs toughened glass French doors with compatible frames and secure hardware, selecting the glazing based on the location, application, and relevant safety requirements.
Learn More →Satin Glass French Doors
Satin Glass French Doors
Finished with an acid-etched or similarly treated surface, satin glass creates a smooth, translucent appearance that diffuses incoming daylight while restricting clear views through French doors. This balance between privacy and light makes the glazing suitable for internal rooms, entrances and other areas where visual screening is preferred. Its understated finish can also complement both traditional and contemporary frame designs. We measure and install satin glass French doors with suitable frames and hardware, matching the glazing specification to your property's privacy, lighting and design requirements.
Learn More →Astragal Bars on French Doors
Astragal Bars on French Doors
Applied to the glazing surface and often coordinated with internal spacer bars, astragal bars recreate the visual division associated with traditional individual windowpanes. This arrangement allows modern glazed French doors to retain a detailed, heritage-inspired appearance while using contemporary sealed glazing units. Different bar layouts, proportions and frame finishes can be selected to coordinate with existing windows, joinery and architectural features. Our installers carefully align astragal bars on French doors to create balanced glazing patterns that complement the specific character and design of your property.

What Are the Benefits of Installing French Doors?
Installing French doors can increase natural light, provide wider access and create a stronger visual connection between indoor and outdoor areas through their paired glazed panels. Their two-door configuration also gives homeowners flexible control over the opening, while different frame materials, glazing options and finishes allow the system to suit both traditional and contemporary properties.
Increased Natural Light
Large glazed panels allow daylight to enter adjoining rooms, helping create brighter interiors while maintaining clear views towards gardens, patios or other spaces.
Flexible Access
Homeowners can open one door leaf for everyday use or both leaves when a wider entrance is needed for garden access, entertaining, or moving larger household items.
Indoor-Outdoor Connection
Wide glazed areas maintain views towards exterior spaces when the doors are closed and provide direct access to patios, terraces and gardens when opened.
Flexible Ventilation
Opening one or both door leaves allows homeowners to control airflow according to the weather, room conditions and amount of ventilation required.
Versatile Design Options
French doors are available in frame materials such as uPVC, aluminium, and timber, with glazing options to address privacy, light control, acoustic performance, and appearance.
Suitable for Different Property Styles
Traditional proportions, modern frame finishes and varied glazing designs allow French doors to complement period properties, contemporary homes, extensions and renovated living spaces.

Arrived when they said they would, were very polite, respectful and pleasant people. Found answers to questions we didn’t realise about the installation and though we haven’t yet finished the project the windows are a very exciting and big step forward for us. Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are French Doors?
French doors are traditional hinged double doors with wide glass panes set in vertical frames that open outward or inward from a central meeting point, connecting indoor spaces to outdoor patios and gardens. They combine classic architectural charm with expansive natural daylight transmission and flexible ventilation options. Available in materials such as uPVC, aluminium, and timber, French doors can be configured with double, triple, or specialised glazing options to suit various property styles.
How Long Does French Door Installation Take?
French door installation takes between half a day and a full day for a standard replacement, though complex structural openings or multi-panel configurations may require additional time. Straightforward replacements of existing doors can be completed in a few hours by experienced fitters. Bowalker’s in-house installers manage the entire process, ensuring precise alignment, weather-sealing, and final operational checks.
How Do You Clean a French Door?
Clean French doors by wiping the glass panels and frames with warm water, mild soap, and a soft microfibre cloth to eliminate dirt, fingerprints, and smudges. Regularly clear debris from door sills and thresholds to ensure smooth threshold clearance. Use a mild lubricant on hinges, handles, and multi-point locking mechanisms annually to maintain optimal operational performance and prevent stiffness.
How Do You Choose the Right French Door for Your Home?
Choose the right French door by evaluating your property’s architectural style, available wall space, room layout, security priorities, and energy efficiency requirements. Traditional timber frames suit heritage properties, while sleek aluminium profiles complement modern extensions. Consider your glazing needs, such as acoustic or solar glass, during your free consultation, where our experts assess your opening and recommend the ideal configuration.
What French Door Design Ideas Should You Consider for Your Home?
Consider French door design ideas such as slim aluminium frames for contemporary open-plan extensions, classic timber French doors for period properties, or decorative astragal bars to replicate authentic historic joinery. Integrating obscure or satin glass can maximise privacy for rooms overlooking boundaries, while matching your frame finish to existing windows creates a cohesive aesthetic across your property’s exterior.
What Guarantee Do You Provide on French Door Installation?
Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on qualifying French door installation and replacement work. Our fully in-house team manages every project from initial survey to final inspection, ensuring exceptional standards of workmanship and secure fitting. Qualifying replacement installations are also backed by full FENSA registration (33081) for complete compliance and peace of mind.
