Types of Bifold Windows We Install and Replace

bifold windows

Top-Hung Bifold Windows

Top-hung bifold windows use a head track to support panel weight, allowing panels to fold and slide smoothly whilst reducing stress on the sill. Suited to large apertures and wide openings, this system offers superior durability and long-term stability.
Bowalker installs and replaces top-hung bifold windows with thermally broken aluminium or uPVC frames, A-rated double glazing, secure multipoint locking and EPDM weather seals, ensuring smooth operation and consistent thermal performance throughout.
bifold windows

Bottom-Rolling Bifold Windows

Using a sill track where precision rollers carry the panel weight, bottom-rolling bifold windows allow panels to slide and fold with minimal effort. Well-suited to smaller openings and straightforward installations, this configuration offers a cost-effective and reliable solution.
Bowalker carries out bottom-rolling bifold window installation and replacement using durable stainless steel rollers, weather-tight EPDM seals and A-rated double glazing, maintaining smooth operation, strong insulation and low maintenance over the long term.
Bifold window

Inward-Opening Bifold Windows

Inward-opening bifold windows fold and stack panels inside the property, providing controlled airflow, easy internal cleaning and a clear external elevation. Particularly well suited to kitchens, utility rooms and enclosed spaces where external clearance is limited.
Bowalker specialises in the installation and replacement of inward-opening bifold windows with secure multipoint locking, precision hinges, thermally broken frames and energy-efficient glazing, ensuring safe, reliable operation and consistent thermal performance throughout.
Bifold window

Outward-Opening Bifold Windows

For properties where indoor-outdoor living is a priority, outward-opening bifold windows fold and stack panels externally, maximising internal floor space and creating a fully clear opening for ventilation and natural light.
Bowalker completes outward-opening bifold window installations and replacements using thermally broken aluminium or uPVC frames, weather-tight EPDM seals and A-rated double glazing, ensuring reliable long-term performance and a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces.
Bifold window

Corner Bifold Windows

Corner bifold windows eliminate the need for a fixed corner post, allowing panels to fold and open from both sides to create a wide, unobstructed aperture that maximises views and natural light.
Bowalker handles corner bifold window installation and replacement with reinforced thermally broken frames, precision-engineered hinges, secure multipoint locking and A-rated double glazing, ensuring structural stability, smooth operation and strong thermal performance across the full opening.
Bifold Window

Pass-Through (Servery) Bifold Windows

Ideal for kitchens, home bars and outdoor entertaining spaces, pass-through bifold windows fold and stack to create an open serving space between indoor and outdoor areas.
Bowalker manages installation and replacement of pass-through bifold windows with durable aluminium or uPVC frames, smooth stainless steel track systems, secure locking hardware and weatherproof glazing, ensuring practical everyday use and reliable long-term performance.
bifold windows

Multiple-Panel Bifold Windows

Where generous ventilation and access are required across large apertures, multiple-panel bifold windows use three or more panels that fold and stack along a precision track to maximise opening width and flexibility.
Bowalker carries out multi-panel bifold window installation and replacement with made-to-measure thermally broken aluminium frames, A-rated double or triple glazing and multipoint locking, optimising performance, energy efficiency and usability throughout.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Bifold Windows?

Installing bifold windows improves ventilation, increases natural light, strengthens insulation and creates a seamless indoor-outdoor living connection. These folding windows use multi-panel configurations, thermally broken frames and energy-efficient glazing to optimise performance, security and space usage whilst enhancing the overall functionality and appearance of your property.

Bifold window

The Seven benefits of installing bifold windows are:

Maximum Ventilation and Airflow

Bifold windows open fully by folding and stacking panels along the track, allowing unrestricted airflow and improving indoor air quality, especially in kitchens and living areas.

Increased Natural Light

Slimline frames and large glazed panels allow more daylight to enter through the aperture, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and improving internal brightness.

Improved Aesthetics and Views

Bifold windows create wide, unobstructed openings that enhance external views and give a contemporary, clean appearance to both traditional and modern properties.

Space-Saving Design

Panels fold and stack neatly to the side, removing the need for swing space and making bifold windows ideal for compact areas or servery openings.

Energy Efficiency and Thermal Performance

Thermally broken frames, double or triple-glazed glass and weathertight seals reduce heat loss, improve insulation and maintain consistent indoor temperatures.

Increased Property Value

High-quality bifold windows improve functionality, appearance and energy performance, which supports higher property value and buyer appeal.

Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Connection

Bifold windows open up your living space by removing barriers between inside and outside areas, making them suitable for pass-through windows, outdoor bars and garden-facing rooms.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Bifold windows are folding window systems made of multiple panels that fold, slide and stack along a track to open up an aperture. These windows use hinges, rollers and a head or sill track to operate smoothly, creating wide openings that improve ventilation, natural light and indoor-outdoor living connections.

Bifold window installation costs between £1,200 and £3,500+ per window fully fitted, with most homeowners paying £1,200 to £2,000 on average. Supply-only prices range from £900 to £3,800, depending on size, material (uPVC, aluminium or timber), glazing type and panel configuration.”

Bifold windows are made from aluminium, uPVC or timber frames, combined with double or triple-glazed glass. Aluminium provides durability and slimline frames, uPVC offers low-maintenance performance and timber delivers a traditional finish with strong insulation properties.

Bifold window installation takes 2 to 4 hours per window, depending on size and configuration. A full installation across a property may take 1 to 2 days, depending on factors such as aperture preparation, frame removal and glazing requirements.

Bowalker provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on every bifold window installation, covering workmanship and installation quality for lasting performance and complete peace of mind. All installations are FENSA-registered (reg. 33081), confirming compliance with current Building Regulations, with all certification and documentation handled on your behalf.

No, you do not need to be at home during the installation if access to the property has been arranged with our team. Our in-house installers will work to a clear schedule, keep disruption to a minimum, remove and dispose of all old frames and ensure every bifold window is securely fitted, sealed and tested before they leave.

Replacing bifold windows costs between £1,200 and £3,500+ per window fully fitted, depending on frame material, glazing specification and number of panels. Structural alterations, such as widening the aperture, can add £900 to £1,500 in labour.

Maintenance tips for bifold windows include cleaning the glazing and frames regularly with a mild detergent and a soft cloth, lubricating the hinges, rollers and multipoint locking hardware with a light oil or specialist window lubricant twice a year, and checking the EPDM seals and gaskets annually to prevent draughts and water ingress. Ensure tracks remain clear of debris to maintain smooth folding operation, and inspect seals periodically for signs of wear. Aluminium and uPVC frames require minimal upkeep beyond regular cleaning, whilst timber frames may need periodic resealing or repainting every three to five years.
