Types of Bay Windows We Install and Replace

bay windows

Splay Bay Window

At Bowalker, we install and replace splay bay windows tailored to suit modern, Victorian or Edwardian properties in uPVC, aluminium or timber frames. These windows feature a central pane with angled side panes set at 30 or 60 degrees, creating additional floor space, an abundance of natural light and an attractive external profile.
Our in-house installers ensure precise fitting with A-rated double or triple glazing, PAS 24-compliant locking systems and EPDM weather-resistant seals, delivering a bright, airy interior and enhanced kerb appeal.
bay windows

Box Bay Window

A box bay window has sides that sit perpendicular to the house wall, creating a squared outward projection and a generous interior sill of approximately 250 to 600mm, ideal for seating, plants or decoration. We install and replace bespoke box bay windows in uPVC, aluminium or timber, matched to your property's style and structural requirements.
Our installers ensure precise fitting with A-rated double or triple glazing, multipoint locking and EPDM weather seals, providing increased natural light and enhanced kerb appeal.
bay windows

Bow Bay Window

We install and replace bow bay windows typically constructed with four, five or six equal-sized window panels to form a semi-circular or compass shape. This rounded design creates a panoramic view, maximises natural light and adds a distinctive architectural feature to both modern and period properties.
Our installations use A-rated double or triple glazing, thermally broken frames in uPVC, aluminium or timber, and PAS 24 compliant locking systems, delivering a bright, airy interior and increased floor space.
bay windows

Segmented Bow Bay Window

A segmented bow bay window uses smaller, more acutely angled panels than a standard bow window to create a semi-circular effect, offering panoramic views and an abundance of natural light. At Bowalker, our team designs, supplies and fits these windows in uPVC, aluminium or timber with A-rated double or triple glazing.
Multipoint locking and EPDM weather seals make them suited to both modern and period properties, delivering a bright interior and enhanced kerb appeal.
bay windows

Oriel Bay Window

At Bowalker, we replace and install oriel bay windows, which extend from an upper floor and do not reach the ground, commonly used to enhance period properties and listed buildings, subject to planning and listed building consent where required. Our installers fit oriel windows in slimline aluminium, engineered timber or timber-look uPVC with A-rated double glazing.
Multipoint locking and weather-resistant seals deliver additional interior space, maximum natural light and enhanced kerb appeal.
bay windows

Single-End Bay Window

A single-end bay window projects from a wall but is enclosed on one side, making it well suited to corner positions or where space allows only a partial bay. We replace and install bespoke single-end bay windows in uPVC, aluminium or timber at Bowalker, ensuring each window suits your property's style and structural requirements.
Our team provides precise fitting with A-rated double or triple glazing, PAS 24 compliant locking systems and EPDM weather seals, delivering increased natural light and additional interior space.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Bay windows are windows that project outward from a building, forming an interior recess or extended space with a central pane and angled or curved side panes in shapes such as splay, box, bow, segmented bow or single-end bays. This design increases natural light, enhances ventilation and adds extra living space, whilst improving the property’s exterior appearance.

Bay window installation costs in the UK range from £1,500 to £4,500 fully fitted, with most homeowners paying around £2,000 to £3,000 for a standard three-panel uPVC double-glazed bay. At Bowalker, our installation rate starts from £450 for bay windows under 5m², rising to £900 for larger bays over 5m², added transparently on top of your chosen window supply price with no hidden charges. The final cost varies depending on frame material, with uPVC being the most affordable and aluminium and timber commanding a higher price, alongside window size, glazing specification and whether any structural adjustments are required.

Bay windows are made from materials such as uPVC, timber or aluminium, selected to complement both modern and period properties whilst providing durability, insulation and security. These materials are often combined with double- or triple-glazing and advanced sealing systems to improve thermal performance, energy efficiency and long-term reliability.

Bay window installation typically takes 1 to 2 days per window when completed by a professional crew, though individual replacements into an existing opening can sometimes be completed within a single day. The exact duration depends on factors such as the removal of old frames, any structural adjustments required, the size of the window and weather conditions on the day.

Bowalker Windows provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on every bay window installation, ensuring lasting performance and complete peace of mind. All installations are FENSA-registered (Reg: 33081), confirming compliance with current Building Regulations for safety and thermal performance, with all certification and documentation handled on your behalf.

No, you do not need to be home for the bay window installation, as long as we have access to the property and your preferences are communicated in advance. Our fully in-house team of bay window installers will complete the work professionally, ensuring careful handling, security and installation in accordance with your specifications.

Bay window replacement costs in the UK range from £1,800 to £3,500 for a standard three-panel unit, supplied and fitted, with most homeowners spending around £2,000 for a uPVC double-glazed bay. Aluminium frames generally start from around £1,550 and timber from £1,800, with costs rising depending on size, design complexity and finish. The final price depends on the number of panels, glazing specification and the condition of the existing frame and surrounding structure.

Routine maintenance for bay windows includes cleaning the glass and frames regularly, checking seals for deterioration, lubricating moving parts, inspecting for signs of damage or draughts, applying timber treatment or repainting to wooden frames as needed and keeping drainage channels clear of debris. Following these steps helps preserve their appearance, functionality and energy efficiency over time.

A bay window has a central pane with angled sides forming a polygonal projection, whereas a bow window uses multiple curved panes to create a rounded, panoramic appearance. Most bay windows have three sections (a central pane and two angled sides), whilst bow windows usually consist of four or more panels. Both styles increase natural light and add interior space, and Bowalker installs the full range across modern and period properties.
