Types Of Windows We Install

A sash window uses one or more framed panels that slide vertically within the frame. Common styles include double-hung, single-hung, and box sash, suitable for both traditional and modern properties. We install sash windows in timber, aluminium, and PVCu, with double glazing, tight seals, and secure locking to improve energy efficiency, security, and airflow. Key benefits include smooth operation, durable build quality, low-maintenance options like PVCu, and insulated glazing that supports airtight, long-term performance.

The rental process starts with selecting the right home from available rental listings across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville,
and surrounding Central Texas communities.Dagwood Properties helps renters compare homes based on budget, property size, commute preferences, school districts, and neighborhood goals so the selected property supports both immediate living needs and long-term lifestyle plans.

A flush window features a flat sash that sits level within the frame, creating a clean, seamless exterior with minimalist lines. We install flush windows in uPVC, aluminium, and timber, with double glazing, airtight seals, secure locking, and energy ratings up to A++ to improve efficiency, security, and weather resistance while retaining a traditional look where required. Key features include a slim flat profile, smooth ventilation through opening panels, low-maintenance options such as uPVC, and insulated glazing that supports airtight, long-term performance.

A heritage window follows a traditional design that reflects the appearance of 19th- and early 20th-century windows while integrating modern security and energy-efficiency features. We install heritage windows in timber, aluminium, and high-end uPVC, with realistic woodgrain finishes, period-accurate proportions, traditional detailing, double glazing, airtight seals, and secure locking. Key features include strong energy efficiency, improved insulation, low-maintenance modern materials, and durable construction that preserves architectural character while delivering long-term performance.
A bay window is a multi-pane window that projects outward in a trapezoidal form, with a fixed center pane and two angled or opening side panels. We install canted bay, box bay, and oriel styles in timber, aluminium, and uPVC, using double glazing, airtight seals, and secure locks for strong thermal and long-term performance. Key benefits include wider views, effective airflow through the side panels, space for seating or reading corners, and a layout that brightens rooms while giving a greater sense of space.
An arched window is a custom-made window with a rounded, curved, or pointed top that adds architectural character while drawing in more natural light. Styles include full semi-circle Roman arches, shallow segmental curves, and sharp Gothic lancet forms, suited to both classic and modern buildings. We produce these windows in aluminium for strength and long service life, as well as timber and PVC, integrating double glazing, airtight sealing, and secure hardware, with optional opening sections for controlled ventilation.
A fixed window is a non-operable, fully sealed window designed to maximise natural light and provide clear, uninterrupted views. We install direct-set windows, in which the glass is glazed directly into the frame, and sash-set designs, in which the glass sits within a fixed sash, both without hinges, handles, or ventilation. Key benefits include strong airtightness, reduced heat loss, lower energy costs, minimal maintenance, and durable double glazing for long-term thermal performance.
A cottage window is a traditional style often seen as a casement or vertically sliding sash, with multiple panes divided by astragal bars. Our design variations follow a double-hung format that reflects historic glazing while giving homes a warm, classic appearance. Key benefits include modern double glazing for good thermal performance, effective airflow in opening versions, and durable construction that retains traditional character while reducing upkeep in uPVC or aluminium.
A historic window is designed to protect the architectural and heritage value of older buildings by replicating traditional construction methods. Our windows often feature small panes, mortise-and-tenon joints, sash horns, and putty-glazed glass, typically crafted in timber to match original details. Key benefits include authentic appearance, improved thermal performance through discreet double glazing, and secure hardware that supports long service life while respecting the original design.
A tilt-and-turn window operates on a dual-hinge mechanism that opens along two axes, allowing the sash to tilt from the top for secure, draft-free ventilation or swing fully inward from the side for easy cleaning and maximum airflow. Our tilt-and-turn windows suit upper floors and high-rise buildings where outside access is limited. Key benefits include multi-point locking for security, tight seals that reduce draughts and heat loss, and durable double glazing for dependable energy performance.
A casement window is attached to its frame by one or more vertical hinges on the side, allowing it to swing outward like a door for effective ventilation and airflow. Available in uPVC, timber, and aluminium, we install single or double-panel windows that offer unobstructed views and maximum natural light. Key features include a multi-point locking system for security, durable construction, and secure sealing to reduce heat loss. We design and install each window to deliver long-lasting, energy-efficient performance across our range.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Sash Windows?

Installing sash windows improves energy efficiency, increases property value, provides better ventilation, reduces noise, and enhances your property’s security. Upgrading to modern double-glazed sash windows with durable window frames, draught proofing, and high-performance glazing reduces heat loss, improves insulation, and protects your home from external noise, weather exposure, and air leakage.

Enhances Energy Efficiency

New, well-fitted sash windows, particularly those with high-performance double glazing, provide superior insulation, preventing drafts and stabilising indoor temperatures.

Increases Property Value

High-quality sash window installations are a significant asset, particularly in heritage or conservation areas, making the home more attractive to premium buyers.

Provides Better Ventilation

The dual-sliding nature of double-hung sash windows allows for superior airflow, reducing humidity and maintaining a stable, fresh indoor environment.

Durable and Sustainable

Modern sash windows utilise treated engineered timber or high-grade uPVC that resists weathering, rot, and corrosion, ensuring a long-lasting, eco-friendly lifespan.

Enhances Aesthetic Appeal

Classic sash styles, whether in traditional timber or authentic uPVC, enhance the property's visual appearance and preserve its historic architectural character.

Reduces Noise

Double- or triple-glazed sash window panels help minimise external noise from traffic, busy streets, or neighbouring properties, creating a quieter living space.

Improves Security

Reinforced window frames, multi-point locking systems, and toughened safety glass provide stronger protection against forced entry compared to older, single-glazed units.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters .We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good.Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

A sash window is a traditional window system that uses one or more movable panels, known as sashes, which slide vertically or horizontally within a frame. These windows feature glazing bars, timber or uPVC frames, and balanced mechanisms that allow smooth operation. Bowalker installs sash windows with modern upgrades such as double glazing, draught-proofing, and secure locking systems, combining traditional style with improved thermal efficiency and functionality.

The sash window installation costs around £150-£2,000 per window, depending on material selection, window size, and glazing type. uPVC sash windows cost £500-£800, while timber sash windows range from £1,000-£2,000+ per unit, with higher prices in areas such as London due to labour and access requirements. The final cost of sash window installation varies based on factors such as material choice, glazing type, window size, design complexity, property type, and installation requirements, including access and compliance with building regulations.

Sash windows are manufactured using materials such as timber, uPVC, and aluminium frames. Timber sash windows use hardwood or engineered softwood to preserve traditional style and durability, while uPVC sash window systems provide a low-maintenance and cost-effective alternative. Aluminium frames offer a modern solution with high strength and slim profiles.

Sash window installation takes 1 to 2 hours per window, while installing 6 to 8 sash windows can take at least 1 full day, depending on project scope and property conditions. The total installation time for sash windows varies based on factors such as the number of windows, the type of installation (full replacement or refurbishment), the property’s structure (including older or listed buildings), bespoke manufacturing requirements, and site access conditions.
