What Are the Benefits of Installing uPVC Doors?

Installing uPVC doors improves thermal efficiency, strengthens home security, reduces maintenance requirements and provides reliable weather resistance for entranceways and garden-facing openings. Modern uPVC doors combine multi-chambered profiles, insulated double or triple glazing, weather-resistant seals and multi-point locking systems to reduce heat loss, limit draughts and provide dependable everyday performance across traditional and contemporary properties.

Six key benefits of installing uPVC Doors include:

secondary-glazing

Improved Thermal Efficiency

Multi-chambered uPVC profiles, insulated glazing and weather-resistant seals help reduce heat transfer and draughts around the door opening. Double or triple glazing can be specified to meet the property's insulation requirements, helping maintain more consistent indoor temperatures throughout the year.

Better Home Security

uPVC doors can incorporate multi-point locking systems, reinforced hardware and toughened or laminated safety glass where required. These components work together to strengthen vulnerable points around the frame, glazing and locking areas while providing secure everyday access.

Low Maintenance

uPVC frames do not require regular painting, staining or treating to maintain their finish. Routine cleaning of the frames, glass, seals, and moving hardware helps preserve the appearance and operation of entrance, French and sliding uPVC doors.

Reliable Weather Resistance

Properly fitted uPVC doors use compression seals and weather-resistant gaskets to limit water penetration and cold draughts around the frame. The uPVC material also resists common problems associated with untreated timber, such as moisture-related rot.

Better Noise Reduction

Insulated glazing, sealed uPVC profiles and correctly fitted door seals help limit the transmission of external noise into the home. Acoustic laminated glass can also be specified for properties near busy roads, railway lines, flight paths and other persistent noise sources.

Improved Natural Light and Access

Glazed uPVC French and sliding doors can introduce more daylight into kitchens, living rooms and extensions while creating convenient access to gardens, patios and terraces. Larger glazed areas also provide broader external views and a stronger visual connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

uPVC doors are advanced architectural glass door systems available in sliding, folding, or hinged configurations, designed to enhance natural light, thermal efficiency, and indoor-outdoor connectivity. Built with durable, multi-chambered uPVC profiles and high-performance glazing, they provide robust security and weather resistance while requiring minimal upkeep. When configured as modern sliding or entrance systems, they improve your home’s everyday comfort, architectural style, and energy performance.

uPVC door installation takes 2 to 5 days, depending on the size of the opening, the complexity of the structural work and the door system being installed. Installation times may also vary if steel supports, structural modifications or bespoke glazing systems are required before the new uPVC doors can be fitted.

At Bowalker, we provide a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee for all uPVC door installation and replacement services, supporting long-term reliability, installation quality and compliance with professional fitting standards. Every uPVC door installation is completed by our fully in-house installation team and supported by FENSA-registered certification confirming compliance with current Building Regulations for thermal performance, safety and structural integrity.

To choose the right uPVC doors for your home, consider your property’s architectural style, the most suitable frame material, the required glazing specification, your energy efficiency and security requirements, and your available budget. Evaluating these factors together helps ensure your new uPVC doors complement the appearance of your home while providing reliable thermal performance, panoramic views, durability and long-term value.

  • Assess your property’s style and structural layout
  • Choose the most suitable frame material and configuration (such as sliding, French, or entrance)
  • Select the appropriate glazing specification (such as solar-reflective, acoustic, or triple glazing)
  • Consider energy efficiency, security and weather-resistant seals
  • Arrange a professional survey before making a decision

To clean uPVC doors, ensure you prepare the area and equipment, remove loose dirt and dust, clean the frames and glass, dry all surfaces thoroughly, and maintain the moving parts to keep them operating smoothly. Following these steps helps preserve their appearance, maintain effortless glide and extend their service life.

  • Collect a step stool, high-GSM microfibre cloths, a soft brush, and a bucket of warm water mixed with mild, pH-neutral dish soap.
  • Pick a dry, overcast day so the cleaning solution does not dry too fast in direct sunlight and leave streaks.
  • Move nearby furniture three feet back, tie up curtains, and lay drop cloths beneath the door opening to catch drips.
  • Sweep tracks, corners, and sills with a soft vacuum brush to remove loose grit before applying any liquids.
  • Dislodge trapped dirt from the bottom tracks and drainage channels, then wipe down the frames using a well-wrung, damp microfibre cloth.
  • Apply cleaner directly to your cloth rather than the glass, wipe in S-shaped patterns, and finish with a squeegee for a streak-free shine.
  • Wipe down all sills, glass edges, and joints immediately with a dry cloth to prevent water spots and moisture buildup.
  • Spray a silicone-based lubricant onto the tracks and moving hardware, then test the doors to ensure smooth sliding and secure locking.
