Types of Triple Glazed Rooflights We Install and Replace
Triple Glazed Flat Glass Rooflights
Triple Glazed Flat Glass Rooflights
Engineered to deliver exceptional thermal performance, triple-glazed flat glass rooflights are low-profile architectural units that feature three advanced panes separated by dual insulating cavities and warm-edge spacer bars. The extra glass layer and expanded insulating barriers drastically improve U-values relative to standard dual-pane configurations, making them an ideal choice for properties prioritising peak energy efficiency and minimal heat loss. To bring these advantages to your home, Bowalker installs and replaces these flat glass systems using top-tier thermal units and precision framing built to meet modern sustainable standards

Triple Glazed Pyramid Rooflights
Natural light enters from several directions through the sloping glazed faces of a triple-glazed pyramid rooflight, creating a striking architectural feature above the room. Its three-pane construction provides two insulating cavities that support strong thermal performance during colder weather while reinforcing natural water shedding. For a seamless finish, our dedicated in-house team installs and replaces pyramid systems using compatible triple-glazed units, structural hips, supporting frames, and secure weather seals custom-specified around your roof dimensions.

Triple Glazed Roof Lanterns
Traditional and modern kitchen extensions alike gain a dramatic, light-filled focal point through these impressive ridge-style glazed structures, backed by high-performance triple glazing. Internal volume, light diffusion, and cold-weather thermal retention are all maximised by the pitched three-pane glass units and their dual insulating cavities. Bowalker installs and replaces these roof lanterns using strong structural rafters, energy-efficient glass assemblies, and weather-tight crestings, managed entirely by our in-house specialists with zero subcontractors.

Triple Glazed Barrel Vault Rooflights
Long corridors, extensions, and wider roof openings benefit significantly from the continuous curved form of a triple-glazed barrel vault rooflight. Its arched structure distributes overhead daylight evenly across the space, while the three-pane glazing with two insulating cavities actively reduces heat transfer through the expansive glazed area. We install and replace barrel vault systems with compatible curved glazing, custom radius frames, secure upstands, and weather-resistant connections specified precisely for the required span.
Learn More →Triple Glazed Multi-Pane Rooflights
Triple Glazed Multi-Pane Rooflights
Larger roof openings can be divided into several triple-glazed sections using a multi-pane rooflight and a supporting structural grid. This arrangement provides broad daylight coverage while allowing each insulated unit to utilise three panes and two cavities for enhanced thermal resistance and structural integrity. Bowalker installs and replaces triple-glazed multi-pane rooflights with suitable grid framing, insulated glass units, secure perimeter seals, and structural support matched seamlessly to the overall glazed area.
Learn More →Triple Glazed Aluminium Rooflights
Triple Glazed Aluminium Rooflights
Aluminium provides the structural strength needed to support heavy triple-glazed units while allowing relatively slim frame profiles and generous glazed areas for contemporary homes. Thermally broken aluminium systems actively limit heat transfer through the metal framework, helping the complete rooflight achieve its intended thermal performance. Complete with durable powder-coated colour finishes, we install and replace triple-glazed aluminium rooflights with compatible insulated glass units, secure weather seals, and framing selected specifically around your rooflight design.
Learn More →Triple Glazed Steel Rooflights
Triple Glazed Steel Rooflights
Steel provides robust structural support for triple glazing where a project calls for narrow sightlines or a traditional, industrial, or Crittall-inspired appearance. Because these units require heavy-duty framing, the required steel profile, thermal detailing, glazing thickness, and supporting components are tailored carefully to the size and design of the rooflight. Our in-house team installs and replaces triple-glazed steel rooflights with compatible insulated glazing, secure retention systems, weather seals, and structural hardware perfectly suited to your roof aperture.
Learn More →Triple Glazed Fixed Rooflights
Triple Glazed Fixed Rooflights
Ultimate weather tightness, simplified structural integration, and sleek, flush sightlines are delivered by non-opening, low-profile architectural units that make fixed triple-glazed systems an exceptional choice for modern extensions and flat-roof spaces where the main objectives are maximising overhead natural light and achieving optimal thermal insulation. Because they lack mechanical moving parts, these fixed configurations are installed and replaced by Bowalker using thermally broken frames, high-performance triple glazing, and precision perimeter seals.
Learn More →Triple Glazed Opening Rooflights
Triple Glazed Opening Rooflights
Rooms that need both overhead daylight and additional airflow can utilise an opening triple-glazed rooflight equipped with a compatible manual or powered operating system. Because triple-glazed units carry additional glass weight, the hinges, actuators, frame, and supporting structure are meticulously engineered to suit the selected configuration. Our team installs and replaces opening systems with appropriate three-pane glazing, smooth operating components, weather seals, and robust frames selected directly for your ventilation needs.
Learn More →Triple Glazed Sliding Rooflights
Triple Glazed Sliding Rooflights
For projects requiring a larger open roof area, a triple-glazed sliding rooflight can move a heavy glazed panel smoothly along a compatible track system rather than lifting it outward. The added weight of three-pane glazing means the tracks, frame, operating components, and structural support must be selected around the complete system to ensure effortless movement. Bowalker installs and replaces sliding triple-glazed rooflights featuring precision tracks, insulated glazing, secure multi-point locking components, and weather-resistant seals.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Triple Glazed Rooflight?
Triple-glazed rooflights combine an advanced three-pane insulated glass structure with robust framing and high-performance seals to deliver exceptional thermal retention and abundant overhead daylight for modern extensions and home renovations. Their superior insulation, condensation control, acoustic dampening, and energy efficiency depend on the selected multi-pane configuration, frame construction, and professional installation specification.
8 key benefits of installing triple-glazed rooflights include:
Reduces Heat Loss Through Large Areas of Roof Glazing
The addition of a third glass pane and dual insulating cavities creates a formidable thermal barrier, significantly cutting down heat escape through expansive overhead glazing compared to standard single or dual panes.
Keeps the Internal Glass Surface Warmer in Cold Weather
By retaining indoor warmth, the innermost pane remains at a higher temperature during chilly winter months, eliminating biting cold radiant downdrafts beneath the rooflight.
Helps Reduce Internal Condensation Risk
Enhanced thermal resistance drastically lowers the likelihood of moisture buildup and internal condensation forming on the glass surface or framing channels during cold weather.
Improves Comfort Around Large Rooflight Openings
Maintaining stable interior surface temperatures ensures that living spaces, dining areas, and kitchen islands directly underneath large roof openings remain cosy and comfortable year-round.
Provides Better Thermal Performance Than Comparable Double Glazing
The extra insulating layer substantially improves overall energy efficiency, making triple glazing the gold standard for high-performance architectural glazing.
Supports Lower U-Value Rooflight Specifications
Easily meets or exceeds stringent building regulations and low U-value targets required for sustainable, highly energy-efficient modern extensions.
Provides Greater Acoustic Separation From Outside Noise
The multi-layered glass and dual cavity construction act as an effective sound barrier, significantly dampening external noises such as heavy rain, traffic, and overhead aircraft.
Works With Low-E and Solar-Control Glass for Year-Round Comfort
Seamlessly integrates with advanced Low-E coatings and solar-control glass to trap interior heat in winter while reflecting unwanted solar glare and heat during summer months.

Arrived when they said they would, were very polite, respectful and pleasant people. Found answers to questions we didn’t realise about the installation and though we haven’t yet finished the project the windows are a very exciting and big step forward for us. Would recommend this company and this team without hesitation. Thank you!

Read moreBowalker have been incredibly helpful and provided me with extremely useful information about the windows and doors at a property I moved into, previously supplied by them. Great customer service, really recommend
Read moreBowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend
Read moreWe had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Triple Glazing Reduce Condensation Better Than Double Glazing?
Yes, triple glazing can reduce condensation better than double glazing as the extra glass pane and dual insulating cavities maintain a significantly higher internal surface temperature during cold weather. This elevated temperature prevents warm indoor air from reaching its dew point when it touches the glass, substantially minimising moisture buildup on your rooflight.
Does Triple Glazing Reduce Outside Noise?
Yes, triple glazing reduces outside noise by creating additional glass and cavity layers that can limit sound transmission through the rooflight. The actual acoustic performance depends on pane thickness, cavity widths, laminated glass where specified, frame construction, seals, and installation quality.
How Many Low-E Coatings Does a Triple Glazed Rooflight Need?
A triple-glazed rooflight needs two Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings to maximise thermal performance and reach optimal U-values (as low as 0.6 to 0.60 W/m²K). These microscopic metallic layers reflect radiant heat back into your living space while still allowing natural daylight to flood through the glass without obstruction.
What U-Value Should a Triple Glazed Rooflight Achieve?
A triple-glazed rooflight should achieve a whole-product Uw-value between 0.50 W/m²K and 0.90 W/m²K, while centre-pane Ug-values can drop as low as 0.60 W/m²K. Meeting these strict thermal thresholds ensures maximum energy retention and full compliance with modern UK building standards for sustainable extensions.
Does a Triple Glazed Rooflight Need Stronger Structural Support?
Yes, a triple-glazed rooflight needs stronger structural support as the inclusion of a third glass pane adds significant weight to the overall assembly. Bowalker ensures that all underlying roof apertures, structural timber or steel curbs, and framing profiles are meticulously engineered to safely bear this increased load.
Are Triple Glazed Rooflights Suitable for Large Roof Openings?
Yes, triple-glazed rooflights are suitable for large roof openings when paired with robust framing materials like structural aluminium or steel. These heavy-duty framing systems maintain narrow sightlines while safely supporting extensive multi-pane glass arrays across spacious kitchen extensions and modern living areas.
Do Triple Glazed Rooflights Need Planning Permission?
Triple glazed rooflights do not need planning permission in the UK if they meet standard Permitted Development rights, meaning they do not project more than 150 millimetres from the existing roof plane. However, heritage properties, conservation areas, or non-standard flat-roof designs may require local authority approval before installation begins.
Do Triple Glazed Rooflights Need to Meet Building Regulations for Thermal Performance?
Yes, triple-glazed rooflights must meet UK Building Regulations (specifically Approved Document L for energy efficiency and thermal performance), though their high thermal performance means they typically exceed minimum requirements easily. Proper installation by a certified professional ensures full adherence to these mandatory safety and energy standards.
Can a Replacement Triple Glazed Rooflight Be FENSA Certified?
Yes, a replacement triple-glazed rooflight can be fully FENSA certified when installed by a registered specialist like Bowalker (Reg: 33081). This certification provides official documentation that your replacement glazing complies with all current building regulations without requiring separate local council inspections.
How Does Triple Glazing Improve Rooflight Thermal Performance?
Triple glazing improves rooflight thermal performance by adding a third glass pane and a second insulating gas-filled cavity to the structural assembly. This dual-barrier design drastically slows down thermal transfer, trapping warm air inside your property while preventing outdoor cold from penetrating the roof aperture.
When Is Triple Glazing Worth Choosing Over Double Glazing?
Triple glazing is worth choosing over double glazing if your property features large expanses of overhead glazing, faces north or experiences severe winter weather. It is also the ideal choice for homeowners striving for ultra-low U-values, Passive House standards, or maximum year-round thermal comfort.
What Should a Triple Glazed Rooflight Specification Include?
A triple-glazed rooflight specification should include the exact aperture dimensions, overall frame material, glass pane configuration, and desired thermal or solar-control properties. It should also detail the method of operation, such as fixed, manual opening, or motorised sliding mechanisms, alongside structural upstand requirements.
What Should Be Considered Before Installing a Triple Glazed Rooflight?
You should consider roof pitch, structural load capacity, solar heat gain, and the overall layout of your room before installing a triple-glazed rooflight. Evaluating these factors alongside your property’s specific lighting needs and budget will help determine the ideal size, frame material, and glazing options for your project.
