Types of Tilt and Turn Windows We Install and Replace

tilt and turn window

Double Glazed Tilt and Turn Window

The most widely installed tilt and turn configuration, the double-glazed window uses two sealed panes separated by an insulating gas-filled cavity to combine reliable thermal performance with full functionality. Turning the handle 90 degrees opens the window fully inward for cleaning and access, while 180 degrees tilts it for controlled ventilation.
Suited to living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens across modern and period properties, Bowalker fits these with energy-efficient sealed units, durable uPVC or aluminium frames and multipoint locking systems.
tilt and turn window

Triple Glazed Tilt and Turn Window

A triple-glazed tilt and turn window features three panes within a sealed unit, set in reinforced uPVC or aluminium frames to support the increased weight. The two insulating cavities deliver superior heat retention, making these well suited to north-facing elevations and properties targeting higher energy ratings.
They also provide measurable noise reduction, ideal for rooms facing busy roads. Bowalker installs these with high-performance glazing, secure multipoint locking systems and precise in-house fitting, and can replace existing units to improve energy performance and acoustic comfort.
tilt and turn window

Double Tilt and Turn Window

Where a single sash would be impractical for a wider opening, the double tilt and turn window provides two independently operable sashes within one frame, each capable of tilting for ventilation or opening fully inward. Commonly fitted in living areas, master bedrooms and upper floors, this configuration gives independent airflow control across the full width of larger openings.
Bowalker installs these using energy-efficient glazing, durable uPVC or aluminium frames and secure multipoint locking systems, and can upgrade older units to improve usability and insulation.
tilt and turn window

Tilt and Turn With Fixed Panel Window

A tilt and turn window with a fixed panel combines a non-opening glazed section with an operable sash within one frame, increasing natural light while keeping ventilation focused through the opening sash. The fixed panel carries no hardware and requires no maintenance, making this a practical solution for large openings and extensions.
Our window fitters install these with energy-efficient glazing, durable uPVC or aluminium frames and secure multipoint locking hardware, and can replace older units to improve light levels, insulation and overall functionality.
tilt and turn window

French Tilt and Turn Window

Designed for rooms that benefit from a wide, unobstructed span, the French tilt and turn window opens from the centre with two independently operable sash panels, each offering tilt ventilation or full inward opening. Particularly well suited to balcony-facing rooms, garden elevations and larger openings, it maximises width and airflow in one clean design.
Our in-house window fitters install these with high-performance glazing, durable uPVC or aluminium frames and secure locking systems, and can replace existing units to improve access, ventilation and overall performance.
tilt and turn window

Triple Panel Tilt and Turn Window

A triple panel tilt and turn window incorporates three sections within a single frame, combining fixed and operable sashes to span larger openings while maintaining full tilt and turn functionality. Well suited to large living rooms, open-plan kitchen-dining areas and modern extensions, this design enhances natural light and ventilation across a wide span.
Bowalker installs these with energy-efficient glazing, durable uPVC or aluminium frames and secure locking systems, and can replace older multi-panel units to improve light distribution and thermal performance.
tilt and turn window

Standard Rectangular Tilt and Turn Window

A standard rectangular tilt and turn window is the most common configuration, featuring a four-sided sash with clean, rectilinear lines suited to a wide range of property styles, from modern new builds to traditional houses. Frames are typically manufactured from uPVC or aluminium at a 70–75mm profile depth, providing strong thermal performance, structural rigidity and low maintenance.
Bowalker installs these with energy-efficient glazing and secure multipoint locking systems, and can replace existing units to improve insulation and draughtproofing without altering the external appearance.
tilt and turn window

Arched or Curved Tilt and Turn Window

Not every opening is rectangular, and an arched or curved tilt and turn window is designed specifically for shaped apertures, featuring a precisely formed frame, typically a semi-arch, full arch or custom curve, that adds architectural character while retaining full tilt and turn functionality. Suited to period properties, converted buildings and bespoke new builds.
Our in-house window installers fit these with high-performance glazing, precisely shaped uPVC or aluminium frames and secure locking systems, and can replace existing shaped windows with accurately fitted units.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Tilt and Turn Windows?

Installing tilt and turn windows improves ventilation control, strengthens security, simplifies maintenance, increases energy efficiency and reduces external noise. Modern tilt and turn windows use high-performance glazing, multi-chambered frames and multipoint locking systems to regulate airflow, reduce heat loss and maintain consistent indoor conditions, making them suitable for both contemporary and traditional properties.

Six key benefits of installing tilt and turn windows are:

Dual Ventilation Control

Allows controlled airflow through the tilt function while enabling full inward opening for maximum ventilation, helping maintain fresh indoor air without compromising safety.

Enhanced Home Security

Uses advanced multipoint locking systems and inward-opening design to improve resistance against forced entry, providing reliable protection for homeowners and their property.

Easy to Clean and Maintain

Opens inward fully, allowing both sides of the glass to be cleaned safely from inside the property, reducing maintenance effort and improving accessibility.

Child and Pet Safety

Provides secure tilt ventilation that limits full opening, reducing the risk of falls while still allowing airflow, making it suitable for family homes.

Energy Efficiency

Uses double or triple glazing with multi-chambered frames to reduce heat loss, improve insulation and maintain consistent indoor temperatures year-round.

Improved Noise Reduction

Reduces external noise levels through sealed glazing units, creating a quieter indoor environment, especially in busy streets or urban areas.

Bowalker replaced all of our windows and patio doors in November. They are very efficient and got the job done in the pouring rain but did it quick and professionally. We had a couple of teething issues with the doors after completion and they did not hesitate to come out and rectify the issue. Excellent customer service and a friendly team. Would highly recommend

We had a total of 6 windows fitted at end of June 2025 (2 bathroom(frosted), 1 hallway,1 dining room and two big bay windows complete with 2 window boards). Took 5 days in total as bay windows were load bearing ,the window boards were not in warehouse so took extra time to arrive and fit , the silicone/mastic finish wasn’t great and they cut one end of a window board wrong , but after a telephone call a new team of fitters came out and rectified the mistakes of original fitters that we had noticed , a window pane had got scratched in delivery so they replaced that as well. This was a big job that entailed some mistakes but over time was rectified by bowalker windows by sending out another team of fitters to fix some minor mistakes of original fitters . We went on a recommendation from a work colleague who had used Bowalker windows in the past as were very good. Maybe just improve your fitters mastic silicone skills a bit more but is is an old house of 110 years and nothing is level in this house

Frequently Asked Questions

Tilt and turn windows are dual-function window systems that tilt inward at around a 15-degree angle for secure ventilation or turn fully inward for easy access and cleaning. A single handle controls both functions: turning it 90 degrees opens the window inward, while 180 degrees activates the tilt position. Built with multipoint locking systems, these windows provide strong security, controlled airflow and practical everyday use for modern homes.

Tilt and turn window installation in the UK costs between £450 and £1,500 per window, covering supply and installation. The final figure depends on size, frame material (uPVC or aluminium), glazing type and configuration, as well as installation requirements such as property access or structural adjustments.

Bowalker’s 600×900mm 5 Star Tilt and Turn unit is priced at £1,131.95 supply only, with a £150 installation rate bringing the all-in total to approximately £1,281.95, inclusive of VAT, surveying, disposal and the 10-year insurance-backed guarantee. Contact our team for a no-obligation quote tailored to your property and chosen configuration.

Tilt and turn windows are made from durable materials such as uPVC and aluminium, chosen for their strength, low maintenance and long-term performance. These frames are combined with double or triple-glazed units to improve insulation, reduce noise and increase energy efficiency. Each material supports secure multipoint locking systems and smooth operation, making them suitable for modern installations and replacing older window units.

Bowalker Windows provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee for all tilt and turn window installations, ensuring peace of mind and long-lasting performance. This covers workmanship and installation quality, giving homeowners confidence that their tilt and turn windows are fitted to the highest professional standards and comply with FENSA regulations.

No, you do not need to be home for the tilt and turn window installation as long as we have access to the property and your preferences are confirmed in advance. Our fully in-house installers will carry out the work professionally, ensuring secure handling, careful installation and full adherence to your specified tilt and turn window design and requirements.

Replacing tilt and turn windows typically costs between £600 and £1,600+ per window, accounting for the removal of the existing unit, supply of the new window and installation. Removal of an existing frame adds £50–£100 per window to the overall cost. Prices increase for triple-glazed units, multi-panel configurations, bespoke shaped designs or installations requiring structural adjustments and specialist access. For an accurate replacement cost specific to your property, contact Bowalker for a no-obligation quote.

Maintenance tips for tilt and turn windows include regularly cleaning the glass and frames to prevent dirt build-up, checking seals to avoid draughts and lubricating hinges and locking mechanisms for smooth operation. Inspect handles and hardware periodically to ensure secure closing and clean drainage channels to prevent water accumulation. uPVC and aluminium frames require minimal upkeep, helping maintain long-term performance and appearance.
